It's Episode 47 of Eternal Darkness Of Not So Spotless Minds and we are joined by the legendary (yet questionable) Scott and Liam from podcast, Scott & Liam vs Evil! In this episode, representing pre-2000s, we take a look at Liam's choice, Japanese fever dream Hausu (House) from 1977. And representing post-2000s, Scott has chosen Sometimes I Think About Dying (2023), a commentary on isolation and social interaction. We also discuss the limits of child safety, the Littlewoods lingerie section and we get even more unhinged than usual in this round of Would You Rather? Hold on to your sick buckets, peeps! MARVEL, AGENTS OF SHIELD, HAWKEYE und SECRET INVASION.

On this episode of Flourish-Meant, host Tina Yeager sits down with actor Brandon Potter to discuss the lessons he's learned playing the antagonist character Quintus in the hit TV series "The Chosen". The conversation delves into how viewers can relate to the character and the importance of being a part of something bigger than oneself. They explore the power of the show in bringing people together and the message of gathering with others to achieve growth through shared experiences. Tune in to learn how an unlikely teacher can offer unexpected perspectives. Brandon Potter is an actor best known for his role as Quintus in the popular show The Chosen. A Texas native and lifelong storyteller, his voice can be heard in hundreds of cartoons, video games, audiobooks, podcasts, and commercials. On-screen credits include the feature film Little Woods, starring Tessa Thompson, a guest role in Special (Netflix Series), and commercial work for brands like State Farm, American Airlines, and more. He got his acting chops as a company member of the Tony Award-winning Dallas Theater Center where he starred as President LBJ in All the Way, and Scrooge in A Christmas Carol among many others. Current projects include producing the SAG feature film Final Dress, a teen slasher set in a summer theater camp, which addresses sexual assault in the live theater world. In an interview with Flourish-Meant, Potter shares his insights on playing the antagonist to Jesus, and how he approaches empathizing with his character rather than judging him. He also talks about the importance of being a part of something bigger than oneself and the value of seeing people come together for a common cause. Brandon hopes that viewers of The Chosen will take away the message of gathering together with others to share and be a part of something open and inclusive. Topics covered in the podcast episode: Discussion of Potter's experience playing the antagonist character of Quintus in "The Chosen" Potter's empathy for Quintus and his pursuit of his goals The issue of identity How we might relate more to an antagonist than we'd like to admit Importance of being a part of something bigger than oneself while playing the role Overcoming self-centeredness and "siloing" The power of "The Chosen" in bringing diverse people together Importance of giving oneself to be a part of something greater Main takeaway: message of gathering together with other people for a sense of togetherness and growth through shared experiences Connect with Brandon Potter at https://www.instagram.com/brandonpotterofficial/ Get inspired now and get Tina Yeager's newest release, Upcycled: Crafted for a Purpose! For our latest exploration of multiversal gaming, friends of the show Dave and Steve bring games mastering knowledge and expertise to Derry and Toms (as well as a couple of afternoon libations of course). Whilst we consider whether Stormbringer is the Moorcockian RPG to rule them all, we also yak about the lineage of the Stormbringer RPG (see terribly boring powerpoint slide below), gaming as shit-kickers, when games get too meta, cat character sheets, how to nail the dream realms, playing games in Littlewoods cafe, and memories of Oyster Stout (all bad). You can catch up with Dave and Steve's gaming escapades at: tentacledwhisperer.wordpress.com and cruisingforamusing36190591.wordpress.com Also, I refer to Ted's Stormbringer modifications in the intro to this show and you can read his latest thoughts on the games application of Sorcerers and Summoning over on the Tomb of Tedankhamen.

Sir Malcolm Walker is the chairman and co-founder of the frozen food supermarket chain Iceland. He was brought up in Grange Moor, West Yorkshire. He was just 14 when his father died, and he helped his mother run a smallholding, driving a tractor and ploughing fields. His business instinct kicked in during his teenage years, when he promoted Saturday night dances by booking bands into local church halls. After receiving rejections from Marks & Spencer and Littlewoods, he became a trainee manager at Woolworths, and recalls that he started at the very bottom, sweeping the floors for many months before gradually winning promotions and moving round the country. In 1970, he and Peter Hinchcliffe, a colleague from Woolworths, opened a shop in Oswestry, selling loose frozen food from chest freezers. The business soon began to take off, Malcolm and Peter were both fired by Woolworths, and Malcolm went on to build a company which now has more than 1000 stores in the UK and Ireland. Along the way, boardroom battles led to his departure in the early 2000s, but he later returned and Iceland is now back in family ownership. Alongside his business pursuits, Malcolm has been a fundraiser for dementia charities, after his wife was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's. She died in 2021 after more than 50 years of marriage. He was knighted in 2017, has three children, one of whom also works in the family business, and he married for the second time in August last year. We have sat down with two of her predecessors and were only too pleased to be able to record this chat with her, in what is her first ever podcast interview! We chat about the term 'veteran' and its application Vs the term 'ex forces' as well as her efforts engaging with the armed forces community in her role as Labour's lead on veterans' affairs. And here's a little about Rachel:'I'm local and love my diverse home town of Luton where I have lived virtually all my life. I was born in the Luton & Dunstable Hospital, I grew up in Biscot and went to Denbigh High School. I studied at Luton Sixth Form College, before going to Leicester University. My first Saturday job was in Littlewoods in the Arndale (now Primark) and my first full-time job was at the TSB bank customer service centre that used to be on Cardiff Road. Later on in life, as part of my 20+ year career working in the public sector and wider civil service, I studied part-time for a Masters degree at the University of Bedfordshire in Luton.I live in High Town with my partner Iain and, like you, I use our local services – I take the train from Luton Station, I shop locally (on High Town Road or Bury Park Sainsbury's) and have gone to Woodland Avenue GP surgery since I was a baby! I'm active in supporting our Luton community, I've been a governor at Luton Sixth Form College since 2014 and I'm a regular volunteer at Luton Foodbank.Having spent my life in Luton, with family and friends across the constituency, I know Luton South like the back of my hand.Since childhood, I've always stood up for fairness and equality for all. This developed into a deep sense of social justice, which I have held all my life, and that is why I joined the Labour Party as a teenager. As a trade unionist, I have stood up for people's rights at work and against attacks on pay and pensions.'For more information on our epic sponsors Salesforce, see here: https://www.salesforce.com/uk/and Vetforce, here: https://veterans.force.com/s/And Rachel's website is here: Rachel Hopkins MP

Mark takes time away from his very busy schedule (it's Christmas time in retail …) to discuss some of our very favourite Customer Perspective topics, including the importance of getting CX ‘right' and why, successfully delivering that all important omnichannel experience, where CX is going, and the challenges that lie ahead. The last time I saw Mark was at the ECCCSA | European Contact Centre & Customer Service Awards, where I presented his customer care team with the gold award for the best customer service team in Europe – and, in fact, his team scooped three awards … an amazing achievement (and an amazing night)! Congratulations, again, Mark – and thanks for the interview. Find out more about our latest Ipsos CX and Channel Performance thinking.

Film director Nia DaCosta chats to Zawe Ashton about directing the new Marvel film - The Marvels and why she's proud of the label ‘black, female director'. Nia is an American Director and Screenwriter. Her debut feature film Little Woods, which she wrote and directed, won her the Nora Ephron Prize at the Tribeca Film Festival and her ambitious update of the classic 1990s horror film Candyman was released earlier this year to critical acclaim, addressing issues such as racial justice, gentrification and black art. She's leading the charge bringing new stories - and faces - onto our screens, and showing the world that black narratives don't have to be dominated purely by pain and sadness. This week's interview was a real treat to record. Sam Joly, my guest, radiates joy and positivity, but what I got from this chat is the sense that that's a choice and one that sometimes takes work and so I hope you come away from it with a smile, but also a sense of how you can celebrate your personal achievements and maybe make that choice too. Sam is Head of Marketing and Publicity at the film and television production house See-Saw Films. These are the folks that made The King's Speech, Lion, Widows, Macbeth, Ammonite, Slow West, Top of the Lake, State of the Union and more recently Jane Campion's ferocious gothic Western The Power of the Dog and Andrew Haigh's riveting TV series The North Water. Sam started her career in documentary television before joining See-Saw in 2011 where she worked her way up from assistant. We spoke about many things to do with marketing such as poster design, creating trailers, what good publicity actually looks like and how involved directors are, as well as several more broad topics such as mental health on film sets, how you can better value and advocate for yourself, and that time Sam produced a Steve McQueen-directed music video for Kanye West… This is episode 95 of Best Girl Grip. Tune in to hear Olivia and Isaac discuss perhaps the most true-to-life depiction of Flyover Country in any movie they've yet covered, Nia DaCosta's breakout film Little Woods. DaCosta recently became the first black female director to have a #1 movie at the box office with the terrifying reboot of the cult classic horror Candyman. Little Woods debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2018 to critical acclaim, particularly applauding Tessa Thompson and Lily James' performances. DaCosta is directing the upcoming sequel to Captain Marvel, The Marvels, starring Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris.
Editor - Catrin Hedström Candyman is a supernatural slasher film directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld and also DaCosta. The film is a direct sequel to the 1992 film of the same name and the fourth film in the Candyman film series. In 2019, twenty-seven years after the events of the first film, visual artist Anthony McCoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) lives in Chicago with his girlfriend, art gallery director Brianna Cartwright (Teyonah Parris). Brianna's brother Troy shares with them the urban legend of Helen Lyle (Virginia Madsen), a graduate student who went on a killing spree in the early 1990's. Lyle's rampage culminated in a bonfire outside Chicago's Cabrini-Green housing project, where she attempted to sacrifice a baby in the fire. The residents were able to rescue the child before Helen perished in the fire in an apparent act of self-immolation. Desperate for a creative spark to turn his career around, Anthony roams around the Cabrini-Green housing project for inspiration. There, he eventually meets William Burke, a laundromat owner who introduces him to the story of the Candyman (Tony Todd). When Burke was a child he had a frightening encounter with a hook-handed man named Sherman Fields. Police believed Fields put a razor blade in a piece of candy that was given to a white girl. Young William inadvertently alerted the police to Sherman's presence inside the walls of one of the Cabrini-Green towers, leading them to beat Fields to death. When children continued to receive candy with razor blades inside, Sherman Fields was exonerated. Since then, the legend implies that if somebody says "Candyman" five times to a mirror, he will appear and kill the summoner. CATRIN HEDSTRÖM Candyman editor, Catrin Hedström joins us while on location for her current collaborative effort with director Nia DaCosta, Marvel Studios' The Marvels. The Swedish native first met DaCosta when she was studying at NYU. Since then, the two have gone on to work together on the British crime drama series, Top Boy (2019) and the film, Little Woods (2018). Editing Candyman In our discussion with Candyman editor, Catrin Hedström, we talk about: Connecting to the original Candyman film The uncelebrated beauty of cross dissolves Grounding the audience to a character Using wide shots and negative space to create "room" for Candyman Her preference for scary soundscapes over using stings The Credits Visit ExtremeMusic for all your production audio needs Check out the free trial of Media Composer | Ultimate Subscribe to The Rough Cut podcast and never miss an episode Visit The Rough Cut on YouTube

Originally based upon a Clive Barker short story called “The Forbidden,” director Bernard Rose optioned the tale for a film called “Candyman” that was first released in 1992. The movie did solid enough business at the box office to deliver two forgettable sequels but more importantly was the chord it struck within audiences to turn the movie into a bona fide cult classic. Talks of a sequel or a remake were rumored for years but then in 2018, Academy Award winner Jordan Peele entered talks to create a “Candyman” sequel through his Monkeypaw Productions company. Eventually, Peele brought on Nia DaCosta — a rising star director who had received critical acclaim or her film “Little Woods” — and together they crafted a new world surrounding the haunted character called Candyman who inhabited a Chicago neighborhood called Cabrini-Green. Rather than do a remake, Peele and DaCosta decided to create a sequel to the 1992 original film but this time focusing on the newly gentrified Cabrini-Green and the vengeful spirit who was gone but never quite forgotten. In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we're going to chant into the mirror five times and summon a spirit as we review the 2021 film “Candyman”

Ricky Hill was one of the players who helped to define the English game in the 1980s. Making his debut for Luton at 17 in that iconic Littlewoods Cup final against Arsenal, he was one of the most talented players of his generation. Unfortunately, transitioning from playing to coaching wasn't quite as easy. This is a stunning two-part interview from the man who brought the Rooney Rule to the attention of English football and remains at the forefront of the fight against racism.

You have all heard of El Chupacabra, but have you ever heard of their Cajun cousin, The Grunch Road Monster? This vampire hybrid of canine and reptilian has one large spiked tooth at the center of it's top jaw to puncture and slurp down blood from whatever unsuspecting pray it happens upon. The Grunch is also believed to be more advanced and sophisticated than the typical Chupacabra. Oral stories of The Grunch Road Monster began in the 18th century within a community of free persons of color. It was here where the monster got its name, as it was said to prowl the wooded edges of Grunch Road. The Vampire of Farbourgh Marigny is a similar, if not synonymous form of Chupacabra and was a foe of none of other than the "Voodoo Queen" Madam Marie Laveau. Building on our prior episode, the Devil-Man of Algiers was said to have spawned a "Baby-Devil." Marie Laveau was said to have located the Baby-Devil and castrated it to prevent any future hellspawn from wreaking havoc in New Orleans. Unfortunately, this had the exact opposite effect, as one of the baby-devil's fallen testicles spawned a male Grunch and the other a female Grunch. Really grunched that one up, didn't ya, Madam Laveau?Grunch Road today is a nearly forgotten, unpaved stretch that dead-ends near Little Woods in eastern NOLA. Despite it's rural location, people still venture with hopes of snapping a picture of The Grunch Road Monster. The Grunch has been featured in cryptid books and is the titular figure in The Grunch: a Children's Musical-- although the musical is more a parody of How The Grinch Stole Christmas than a true homage to the Grunch Road Monster. And, for the record, The Grunch was not the Dr. Seuss's inspiration for The Grinch. For photos, cast info, updates, and more, follow us on Instagram @thetalegatepodcast and share YOUR encounters to thetalegatepodcast@gmail.com.See you later, Talegaters!Credits:“Cheese Head” & “Paul Morphy” played by Aaron Sherry“Florida Man” & “Bernard de Bore” played by Harrison Foreman“Gary Grunch" played by Harrison Foreman"High quality, royalty free, elevator music" by Defphonix"Talegate Theme" by Mat JonesWritten & Edited by Harrison Foreman

Sue Lawley's castaway this week is the retail legend George Davies. In the 1980s he changed the shape of our high streets with his chain Next. In the 1990s he made supermarket clothes fashionable with his George range for Asda and in 2001 he launched his Per Una collection in Marks and Spencer - it's credited with helping the store find renewed financial success. He was brought up in Liverpool and showed early promise as a footballer - he was talent-spotted by the legendary Bill Shankly, but wasn't good enough to play at the highest level. Then he nearly became a dentist but, after dropping out of university, found a job with Littlewoods as stock controller in charge of children's ankle socks. From the day he started he says he never looked back - he knew his future lay in retail. His trick is knowing his market, and he does that by carefully studying the details of how his clothes sell. Each week he analyses sales figures for every garment, in every store up and down the country - the result, he says, is that he not only knows what women like, he knows what they think.[Taken from the original programme material for this archive edition of Desert Island Discs]Favourite track: You'll Never Walk Alone by Gerry and the Pacemakers Book: A book about learning to paint Luxury: A Cannondale Bike
