One of the most successful multi class Canadian sailors of the 2000's. Luke was the representative in the 470 class at the 2012 Olympics with Mike Leigh, and the Nacra 17 in 2016 with Nikola Girke where they placed 15th and were ranked as high as 5th in the world during that quad. Also, Luke won the 2006 world youth championships in Lasers and is a two-time Pan Am medalist in the sunfish class winning a silver medal in 2015 in Toronto (just days after sailing at the Nacra worlds) and silver again in 2019 in Peru.  He was also a member of SailGP Canada's inaugural season and is now headed to the Pan Am games in the Lightning class.

Today's podcast is a two part (very tardy) regatta report on Lighting Canadian Championships and Pan Am games trials, featuring the winning crew of Jessica Hirschbold (29er world youth championship participant), Rachel Green (2023 Canadian Intercollegiate National Champion from Queens U) and Luke  Ramsay (two time Olympian and two time Pan Am Games medallist). They explain how they put together a team at the last minute, and with the help of the very helpful Lightning fleet were able to learn enough to win the trials!

Lee Parkhill was the representative in the laser class at the 2016 Olympics, and was the bronze medallist at the Toronto Pan Am Games in 2015, other career highlights include fourth at the World Cup in Weymouth and ranking as high at 11th in the world. But even with all that success in the laser class, his key to the doorway of Canada's biggest sailing podcast was qualifying to be nominated for the 2023 Pan Am Games in the sunfish class!   We talked about his nailbiting qualification against friend and fellow olympian Luke Ramsay, bouncing back from missing the 2012 games and how he became E-Sailing Canadian champion!

Luke used to play in Valliers who did a lot of shows with bands like Holding Absence and some big bands on the UK music scene so you've probably seen or heard him do a riff at some point. He's currently working towards producing bands and writing. You can check out a load of work samples he's done if you give him a stalk. We've got a very similar taste in music so chat about that for a while, then lots on guitars, recording bands and all the rest of it. There aren’t too many moments in our planet’s history that inspire or connote the meaning of greatness more so than the Olympic Games. With Rio 2016 – the 31st Olympiad – just days away, I sit down for tea with this super star, Nikola Girke. The Rio games will be her fourth – not a typo – Olympic Games. While this year, she and her sailing partner, Luke Ramsay, will be representing Canada on the Nacra 17, a wee but powerful catamaran, in Olympics past she has represented Canada in both the 470 sailing and RS:X windsurfing disciplines.
