Welcome to the episode 5 of "Women In The Music Industry", a podcast that shines a spotlight on the remarkable women who are breaking barriers and making their mark in an industry that has long been dominated by men. Today I get to speak with Nashville based, Grammy Nominated Music Producer, Songwriter & Musician Extraordinaire, Karen Kosowski. Karen produced and played on the majority of Mickey Guyton's Grammy-nominated album “Remember Her Name” (Capitol Records Nashville); she is also a co-writer on several tracks, and mixer on two tracks. The album received three Grammy nominations including “Best Country Album”, and was hailed by NPR as “one of the standout country-pop works of the modern era”. Karen arranged, produced and played piano with Guyton for her live performance of the Star Spangled Banner at Super Bowl 56. Previously, Karen produced the majority of The Washboard Union's “Everbound” album, which was awarded Roots Album Of The Year at the 2020 Canadian Country Music Awards and contained the Certified Gold, #2 Canadian Country Radio single “Country Thunder”. She produced, mixed and co-wrote the six-week #1 Australian Country Radio single, APRA award nominated “Memphis T-Shirt” for Melanie Dyer and has two more Canadian Gold Certifications, a Platinum Certification, and a #1 Canadian Country Radio single for songwriting cuts with Tim Hicks (“What A Song Should Do”) and Brett Kissel (“Anthem”, “She Drives Me Crazy”). Exclusive Interview: This week's guest has created music that has been loved by fans globally. She is a recording artist, a writer, a producer and an amazing human being. I had the honor of chatting with Lauren Christy. The Original Doll with James Rodriguez unpackages music with the creators and at the same time helps out charity. For every question a guest answers we get items donated to those in need; including women and children in domestic abuse shelters, homeless LGBT+ teens and more. On the show I read “letters of love” from fans throughout the world. Lauren was able to hear how her music touched so many and how the impact has stayed with them. In part one of our chat, we learn how music came to be a part of Lauren's life and we “unpackage” her work with Avril Lavigne. The show exists to let the creatives know that their music had and has an impact on many. I am not soley referring to those worldwide smash hits (of which Lauren Christy has many), I talk about everything from album cuts, to bonus track to b-sides. The music matters as does the life of each creative. Join me on this journey and learn about the creatives from the creatives themselves all while helping out those in need. Audio ripping, stealing and leaking is prohibited in every country in the world. Every question a guest answers we get items donated to charity! Born in Kuwait to Lebanese parents, el Hashem has lived in Toronto, Canada. Influenced by his aunts, who are considered in the Middle East an iconic trailblazing super stars of women in music in the golden era, el Hashem has loved to sing since he was a child. A successful career in LGBTQAS+ media and community leadership dominated his time, and it was not until recently that el Hashem took the leap to pursue one of his life passions, singing. The journey started in early 2021 with a number of cover songs both in English and Arabic languages, that were received very warmly, and resulted in more than 150,000 streams on Spotify. A music video of one of the songs covers played a number of video and film festivals in Europe and NYC and won a number of awards, featuring the unique love story of two Arabic guys in love on a music video. Since then he wrote, recorded, and released two singles and an EP. Upcoming plans include a full album in 2023 that el Hashem best describes as a personal and collective celebration of life, good vibes, inspiration, and feeling good, that will serve to empower the listeners on a struggling day. The album will again be a mix of Western and Middle Eastern vibes that el Hashem loves to connect together. El Hashem's popularity is growing steadily around the world. From close to home in Toronto, and North America, to the Middle East, Indonesia, Philippines, Uganda, Nigeria, South America, and more, fans are coming to his social media from all over to enjoy his original songs, his fun videos covering popular songs that he does to entertain his friends (he personally prefers that to “fans”), and his sharing of his love of food, dogs, and life. His friendly, down to earth real vibe, and happy smile, seem to be reason for his growing popularity. When he started, el Hashem was concerned about a number of barriers to break as a Lebanese Canadian, gay artist, who is starting on the journey of writing and recording songs after a successful career in media publishing and as a talk show host. To be welcomed and enjoyed by listeners from different cultures, and in spite of the distances, is an exciting, and unexpected step, in his song journey. His recent 2022 Holiday Season videos singing much loved Christmas songs seemed to be spreading seasonal joy to listeners and getting a ton of love. That is how el Hashem sees songs and his role as an artist, to bring people together, to bridge cultures, to create a moment of joy or a powerful emotion.

I am honored to have the amazingly talented Producer/Songwriter/DJ @venessamichaels Michaels on for the first episode of 2023! I caught up with Venessa a few weeks ago and had SO much fun chatting with her. We were vibing the entire time and the conversation was truly A1. In 217 we discussed: -Journey Into Music: Venessa and I shared stories from some of our first DJ gigs and discussed how crazy of journey it's been as a DJ. Her mom actually pushed her to start DJing and she quickly realized that this is exactly what she was born to do after her first gig. She continued to build her name on the west coast and began to release music under her self-coined genre "2090". -Discography: Venessa has a DENSE discography of originals, remixes, collabs and features that is truly and unapologetically her. Her sound is so unique and fuses genres effortlessly with each production. She gave us the backstory on tracks like "Creme Brulee" with Kaleena Zanders (The GOAT), her remix of Gallant's "Weight In Gold", and how she produced the theme song for Dreamworks/Netflix show "KIPO and The Age of Wonderbeasts". She can do it all! -"Sent From Saturn": Venessa is set to release her first studio album "Sent From Saturn" later this month and recently put out the first single "Spirit of Mine" featuring Luck. We went deep on the creative process she took while creating this album and the meaning behind the project. It was truly amazing to hear her talk about how it all came together and why she chose to create an album rather than blast out singles. Can't wait to hear it! She is also a SUPER talented DJ and performer who's played at Coachella, Splash House and toured across the country for years - I'm absolutely dying to see her. There wasn't a second of silence in this interview and the energy was on fire. We laughed, we cried (kinda but not really), got real and above all had fun. linktr.ee/sherminthebooth

Thru the Decades of Music a Mix of Genre's are happening & Trad was a part of the scene Trade Martin's career has covered so many eras of music — as a producer, arranger, songwriter, and even occasionally as a recording artist — that he's almost impossible to pin down as a musical figure. In the late '50s, in a partnership with Johnny Power, he began recording acts such as Johnny & the Jokers and released their work on the Harvard Records label before the two formed Rome Records in 1960. Rome only lasted until 1962, weighted down by its lack of reliable distribution, which prevented the company from succeeding despite signing such talent as the Earls (who went on to score their hits for Old Town Records), Del & the Escorts, and the Glens. Martin usually played all of the instrumental accompaniments for these groups, overdubbing the instruments one at a time. In 1963, following the demise of the Rome label, Martin left the partnership and recorded under his own name on Roulette and other labels through the end of the '60s, and even got an entire LP, Let Me Touch You, out on Buddah Records in 1972. His main activity and success, however, were rooted in his work as a producer, arranger, and songwriter, functions that he has performed over the years in idioms ranging from '60s girl group pop/rock, folk, and electric blues to '70s funk and '80s dance-pop. He has also worked with artists such as Eric Andersen, Ellie Greenwich, Lesley Gore, the Tokens, Ian and Sylvia, Rick Nelson, B.B. King, B.T. Express, Pam Russo, and Solomon Burke. What's more, his songs have been recorded by the likes of Dusty Springfield ("Take Me for a Little While"), Patti LaBelle & the Bluebelles, B.B. King ("Peace to the World"), and Dave Edmunds ("Don't You Double Cross Me"). He has also written and produced a handful of film soundtracks.Martin wrote several film scores.
