There has been much speculation as to what the value of the centrepiece of the Crown Jewels really is. In 1937, the 11 year old Princess Elizabeth had watched her father, King George VI crowned in the elaborate ceremony and 16 years later on 2 June 1953, her own official coronation was to take place. Now, Prince Charles will become King the moment Her Majesty passes away. And William will be watching his father's coronation. Prince Charles was the first child to witness his mother's coronation as Sovereign. Princess Anne, his sister, did not attend the ceremony as she was considered too young. The St. Edward's Crown, made in 1661, will be placed on the head of The King during the Coronation service. It weighs 4 pounds and 12 ounces and is made of solid gold and 44 gemstones, including rubies, garnets, sapphires and tourmalines. After the crown, the orb, also made in 1661, is the most important piece of regalia. It is a globe of gold surrounded by a cross girdled by a band of diamonds, emeralds, rubies, sapphire and pearls with a large amethyst at the summit. The Coronation ring, known as 'The Wedding Ring of England' – because the monarch's first duty is not family but country – will be placed on The King's fourth finger of his right hand in accordance with tradition. This ring was made for the Coronation of King William IV in 1831, William himself commissioned the British jeweler Rundell, Bridge & Rundell to create the symbolic sapphire ring with baguette-cut rubies in the form of a cross across the face. The rubies represent the cross of St. George (for England) and the sapphire represents the Scottish flag. 4 When Charles becomes King, he will change the royal insignia, he will put his own stamp on the reign by changing the designs of everything from mail boxes to police uniforms. Instead of the ER II insignia, during Charles' reign, the Tudor Crown design will be used. Although King Charles will have a low-key ceremony on his coronation day this May 6, the Crown Jewels will still figure prominently. An exploration of the story of the jewels tells a tale of brutal exploitation, rape and the original looting. Join us on Don't Call Me Resilient to follow the jewels.  Much of what was called the British Empire was built from stolen riches - globally - and also from India.In fact, India was such an abundant contributor to the Crown that at the time of its occupation of South Asia, Britain called India the Jewel in its Crown.  India was called this because of its location — easy access to the silk route, but mostly because of its vast human and natural resources: things like cotton, and tea and of course its abundance of jewels.Literally, the brightest jewel in Britain's Crown is the Koh-i-Noor diamond.  It is considered one of the world's largest and most valued diamonds and it usually sits on top of the Crown of Queen Mary.It has a controversial history  — namely that it was “surrendered” to the British by an Indian 10-year-old boy whose mother had been imprisoned and whose father had recently died. It's likely for that reason, that it won't be on display at the coronation. But plenty of other jewels will be part of the ceremony. There is the five-pound gold St. Edward's Crown that Charles will be officially crowned with, the Sovereign's Sceptre, which has the Great Star of Africa diamond in it and the Imperial State Crown, which is set with almost 3,000 diamonds - including another Star of Africa.Joining me to explore the history and meaning behind these jewels is Annie St. John-Stark, assistant professor of British history at Thompson Rivers University. Also here today is: Sharanjit Kaur Sandhra, sessional instructor of history at both the University of the Fraser Valley and the University of British Columbia. Her recently completed PhD reimagines museums as spaces of belonging.  Both historians on today's episode believe change is possible with a redress: of how the histories of the Crown Jewels are told and also how wealth is redistributed.  And actually, if recent polls are to be believed, although many will be out celebrating (any excuse for a party, right?) the pomp of the coronation along with its display of the Crown Jewels does not reflect the attitudes of modern Britain. The most recent poll available indicates only 32 per cent of Britons believe the Empire is something to be proud of  — that is down almost 25 per cent from a 2014 poll. That means, attitudes are changing quickly.  Will the Royal Family catch up?

Did the Lakers get a little loose at times during the game? Sure. They spent three quarters in that weird place where teams with big leads struggle to find the balance between hitting knockout blows and playing conservatively enough to bleed clock and avoid rally-inducing mistakes. But they never let Memphis threaten the result, and only let the lead get into single digits for one possession, with about 90 seconds remaining. All in all, it was about as smooth of sailing as a 7 vs. 2 playoff game gets. Now it's on to Monday, where the Lakers can hold home court advantage and take a commanding series lead with a win. The infamous Koh-i-Noor diamond, one of England's Crown Jewels, has a history so bloody it makes Game of Thrones look like a children's cartoon. The 105.6-carat diamond was forcibly removed from India in the 1850s and during King Charles' coronation this year it will be exhibited as a "symbol of conquest" in London.

According to WrestleVotes, the idea for Brock Lesnar vs. Omos came from a powerful person who pushed it through. We also explore Lesnar's other potential opponents for WrestleMania, including Stone Cold Steve Austin, Roman Reigns, Gunther, Bobby Lashley, and Bray Wyatt. While the current plan is for Lesnar to face Omos, there is speculation about an undisclosed backup plan. WrestleVotes hinted that Vince McMahon was involved in pushing for this match, although sources close to Lesnar have suggested otherwise.  Also, UFC's parent company Endeavor recently held an earnings call for the fourth quarter and full year of 2022, during which CEO Ari Emmanuel was asked about the possibility of the company purchasing WWE. In response, Emmanuel praised WWE as an "unbelievable product" and acknowledged their longstanding relationship with the company. However, he also stated that Endeavor is currently focused on de-leveraging their debt and is not looking to change their leverage position by acquiring WWE at this time. This statement suggests that Endeavor is unlikely to pursue the reported $9 billion purchase of WWE from Vince McMahon, as they prioritize reducing their debt. And, finally, WWE "legend" Goldberg has expressed his desire to step back into the ring for one more match under the WWE banner. Goldberg has only wrestled once in 2022, which was against Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber where he lost to Roman Reigns. In 2021, he worked three matches, losing to Drew McIntyre at the Royal Rumble and Bobby Lashley at SummerSlam before beating Lashley at Crown Jewel. Prior to the Reigns match, he hinted that it could be his last time wrestling. Goldberg recently spoke to Sports Illustrated and was asked about the possibility of wrestling again.
