Story: In den 1930er Jahren unternimmt das Gangster-Pärchen Bonnie und Clyde einen blutigen Streifzug durch die Vereinigten Staaten. Und selbst die volle Kraft des FBI und die neueste forensische Technologie reichen nicht aus, um die beiden dingfest zu machen. Also entschließen sich Lee Simmons, der zu dieser Zeit für die Gefängnisse in Texas verantwortlich war, sowie Ma Ferguson, die erste weibliche Gouverneurin des Staates, die beiden ehemaligen Texas-Ranger Frank Hamer und Maney Gault zu reaktiven, damit diese sich als Spezialeinheit einzig und allein der Aufgabe widmen, Bonnie und Clyde aufzuspüren. Schließlich haben diese zu diesem Zeitpunkt bereits zehn Polizisten und drei Zivilisten auf dem Gewissen. Und mit all ihrer Erfahrung gelingt es Hamer und Gault tatsächlich, sich den beiden an die Fersen zu heften.

Director John Lee Hancock discusses his film, The Highwaymen, with fellow director Lawrence Kasdan. The film concentrates on the other side of the Bonnie and Clyde saga, telling their true story of Frank Hamer and Maney Gault – former Texas Rangers who are coaxed out of retirement to end the Barrow gang’s murderous run when even the full force of the FBI isn’t enough to capture the nation’s most notorious criminals. The story of Bonnie & Clyde gets a different spin with THE HIGHWAYMEN! Netflix's film stars Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson as the Texas Rangers who tracked down and killed the most famous criminal couple in history.  I had a chance to sit down with the film's director, John Lee Hancock, and writer John Fusco to talk about their motivation for telling the story of Frank Hamer and Maney Gault, who were old school lawmen in a time when the world was at its most chaotic.
