As Ariel and David just returned from Dubai Watch Week, Ariel explains that someone asked if he was tired of watches, which is hilarious to him because he seems to have a strange superpower that allows him to absorb an endless stream of new releases without losing his mind. The team laughs their way through Omega price increase drama, Rick mourns the loss of the helium escape valve with the seriousness of a national tragedy, and Ripley pitches a country song about no longer being able to afford an Omega. For us, it is the absolute king, bar none. In terms of quality, reliability, and reputation, it's impossible to beat. But there are plenty of other legends. James Lamdin is a sage voice of reason and experience in the vintage watch market. He's earned those titles through his years in the business. A co-founder of the OG collector meetup RedBar Group, Lamdin went on to found Analog Shift, the vintage and pre-owned dealer acquired by Watches of Switzerland (also the parent company of Hodinkee) in 2020. Two pilots fell asleep in the middle of their flight over Indonesia. While the commanding pilot had permission to nap once the plane reached cruising altitude, he woke up to find that his co-pilot had also dozed off. The two were asleep for about thirty minutes with more than 150 passengers and crew on board and while at approximately 36,000 feet altitude. The plane had veered off course, but thankfully, the plane still arrived at its destination safely. Human pilots may snooze mid-flight, but we can rest assured that God never falls asleep. I find such comfort in the words of Psalm 121. In eight verses, we’re reminded that God is omniscient, or all-knowing, about our life; omnipresent, or present all throughout our day; and omnipotent, or all-powerful, and can protect us. The psalmist declares that our help comes from God (v. 2). He is our keeper and shade (v. 5), and He guards us from all evil while preserving our soul (v. 7). God never gets tired. “He will not let your foot slip; he who watches over you will not slumber” (v. 3). “The Lord will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore” (v. 8). When we’re wondering if God has forgotten us, we can rest assured that He is at the wheel. He is always awake and watching over us.

I met Martin recently at Geneve Watch Days and the brand made quite an impression. Capturing authentic vintage vibes with superbly well executed dials in a true "Super-Compressor" case, the Sherpa line strikes quite a chord with a unique identity as a micro-brand out of Germany.  Listen in as we hear the full story of the inspiration behind this storied historical watch, first unveiled by Enicar in 1956 following a Swiss Expedition to Mt Everest. Enicar's SeaPearl watches proved to be incredibly reliable and suitable for extreme environments both deep underwater and as high as mankind would dare to explore, leading to the Sherpa rebranding. Martin shares with us his personal story of discovery of the famed Sherpa watches and his fascination with the 70 year old watches.  Today's faithful recreations provided many challenges to produce. It is wonderful to hear Martin talk about the production of the modern pieces and the technical brilliance of the original concept combined with further refinements. Only producing approximately 100 watches per year, today's Sherpa is a rare example of a passion project that celebrates technical brilliance, distinctive visual appeal and the rare achievement of faithfully respecting an original design with proportions that prove to be timeless.
