Brace yourselves, everyone. It's Zack Snyder time. Our Superman retrospective takes us to Man of Steel. Henry Cavill's first outing as Superman has proven divisive over the years. Some people criticize it for a gritty, overly serious tone, while others credit it with a challenging but original take on the character, with expanded mythology to boot. To break it down, we welcome on Tailon Russell of The Comic Panel Podcast to discuss Cavill and Amy Adams, Snyder's direction, and whether or not they should have destroyed so many buildings. What do you think about Man of Steel? Let us know at cinemaontappodcast@gmail.com

You know Janet Varney from her starring roles in You're the Worst and The Legend of Korra and from hosting two Maximum Fun podcasts, The JV Club and E Pluribus Motto, which she co-hosts with John Hodgman and which just launched its second season. But to the critters of the night, Janet is simply a friend, a liaison between themselves and all the diurnal humans. She talks about many nocturnal animals she encounters or nearly encounters around her Los Angeles home, including coyotes, possums, raccoons, and skunks, who, when they're all out of stink spray, will pound their paws on the ground and make a “puh!” sound. It's cute but not nearly as intimidating as the whole spray thing. Join Janet as she enumerates the various pals of the night and drift off to sleep knowing they're out there.Listen to The JV Club and the second season of E Pluribus Motto wherever fine pods are cast.Go to www.maximumfun.org/join and select Sleeping with Celebrities to support our show.Hey Sleepy Heads, is there anyone whose voice you'd like to drift off to, or do you have suggestions on things we could do to aid your slumber? BT and Sal delve into the new Superman movie, set to release in 2025, with Sal expressing skepticism after seeing the trailer, while BT's son, Colt, is excited. They discuss past iterations of the Man of Steel, including the classic Christopher Reeve film and the "great" Man of Steel (2013) starring Henry Cavill and Amy Adams, noting this new film, starring David Corenswet, is a fresh take. Sal hopes it isn't bad despite a seemingly weak trailer, while BT remains optimistic, looking forward to the full movie experience with his son and a bucket of popcorn. They also touch on the movie's Rotten Tomatoes score, with Sal finding the low score for Man of Steel surprising given how much he enjoyed it.

It's the original comic book superhero, whose name, characteristics, and even his vulnerability have transcended the comic book medium and have entered everyday vernacular. If you knew what happens in this entire episode, would you still listen to it? That's basically what our space sluts masterpiece is trying to ask you as we dive into the world of non-linear time and first contact with aliens in "Arrival". How many times does Brandon get goosebumps and cry while just talking about this movie? Where does the current stretch of films for Dennis Villeneuve rank? And who does Amy Adams remind Marina of? The Stories — "I dyed the bottom of it Manic Panic raspberry-red. I had a belly button pierce. I wore a lot of midriffs. I was a kind of Jewish Shakira, trying to have some influence from Erykah Badu or something, but I was not cool in that way at all.” “I really wanted to be in that movie. I just love Sofia Coppola so much. At the time I didn't have a child. I didn't know much about mothering, and because the writing was so good, I think I knew what to do.” “I want Ida to know that the world is a field of relations. It's cause and effect. Things don't come from nowhere. People don't come from nowhere. Everybody has a heart. It means that she has the ultimate safety in me and in Ben, my husband.”The Backstory — “When I started doing improv and excelled, it was like realizing that you could run really fast or something.” “[SNL] was a necessary opportunity for me to take. I saw a lot in myself that I didn't expect to see. Though challenging, it completely pointed me in the direction of my own natural success.”Wisdom Rains — "Every time we love a piece of art, that's our achievement. The original creation is the achievement of the artist and the people who may have helped them, or made them feel encouraged or inspired… the beauty and offerings of their world at that time.”On Inspo — "When something is ready to be expressed outside of my personal life, there tends to be no hesitation in terms of either putting it in standup or putting it on the page.”On playing the best friend in both It Ends With Us and Dying for Sex — “Other than me playing them, I think it's totally two different pieces of work, two different writers… totally different. I'm often cast as people who are 'the funny person,' but in Dying for Sex, what was offered to me was such an incredible combination of character traits.”On Dying for Sex — “It was a real moment in understanding my own self-defined legitimacy… backed up by Liz Meriwether and Kim Rosenstock writing it. They're so incredible. I thought, Michelle wants me to be here, and she sees me. She's not like seeing hope for what I will be. She's watching my work. She's connecting with me. We're glad we're here. It felt so good. I felt really enrobed in my character.”On her latest book, Lifeform — “I'd found it really hard to write anything that felt like it could breathe and progress. I found it hard to say something interesting, and that wasn't just me having a tiny little shit fit. That's cruel to say about myself, I know, but sometimes it's just that way. Then, in the summer of 2023, my daughter was two-and-a-half, and I could suddenly just catch a wave.”What Else — “I really want to write another kid's book, not a Marcel book, but another picture book. And I'm writing a screenplay right now. I would also like to write a theater piece for myself. There's always a lot that I'm trying to do all at once, in small doses, and then something will overtake everything else.” At The Sea, an upcoming film with Amy Adams.Obsixed — A collection of Jenny Slate's current lifestyle obsessions.Discover more + Shop the podcast:Dying For Sex on HuluIt Ends With Us on NetflixLifeform by Jenny Slate Little Weirds by Jenny SlateAbout The House by Ron Slate + Jenny SlateMarcel the Shell with Shoes On: Things About Me by Jenny Slate + Dean Fleischer Camp Marcel the Shell: The Most Surprised I've Ever Been by Jenny Slate + Dean Fleischer Camp Chani Nicholas and the Chani AppCaron Callahan Carissa ShirtCaron Callahan Lila SkirtTulsi Rose Tea Discover the episode and more on storyandrain.comfollow @storyandraintalks and @storyandrain on Instagram follow @storyandraintalks and @storyandrain on Threadsall about the host
Producer Todd Lieberman, founder of production company Hidden Pictures, recounts the making of one of the most iconic and lauded boxing movies of all time. It had been a dream of Todd's to make a boxing movie, and he knew The Fighter was the one as soon as it came across his desk, but the process from script to screen wasn't an easy one. There were multiple cast and director changes, and the original studio pulled out of the project. But the challenges were blessings in disguise as they allowed director David O. Russell the freedom to bring his trademark dark humor to the film, and actors Christian Bale, Mark Wahlberg, Melissa Leo, and Amy Adams to fully embody their characters. Hosted on Acast. ESPN Senior NHL Writer Greg Wyshynski joined for his weekly visit and discussed the latest headlines. When will Alexander Ovechkin break the all-time goals record? Chase & Joe wonder what Titans owner Amy Adams' first question would be for Cam Ward. Celebrity birthdays caps off Thursday's show.
Producer Dan Levine recalls the making of 2016's iconic Arrival. From the moment he read Ted Chiang's Story of Your Life, Dan knew he had to find a way to bring it to the screen. Director Denis Villeneuve, an incredible talent but still relatively unknown, was the perfect choice. Producers had to wait until Denis wrapped Sicario, but things moved quickly once Amy Adams came on board and suggested Jeremy Renner as her co-star. Production went smoothly, although the material presented endless challenges for Denis and the producers. The scariest moment was after the finished film was screened for the studio - they did not like it and wanted rewrites and a reshoot to change the ending. Dan knew the film worked and fought for the ending that garnered 8 Oscar nominations. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
With the new Superman footage and cast list being leaked and revealed little by little, we thought it a good time to visit and revisit The Justice League, and a little "See This / Not That". #XLessDrEarl is on assignment in Zamunda, so we invite in a Podcast Legend, the Podfather of Geek Out Loud - the one and only Steve Glosson. Glosson, Mikey, and d$ do a little catch up here and there, then discuss the actors and actresses from the Justice League - Henry Cavill, Willem Dafoe, Gal Gadot, Jeremy Irons, Benaffleck, and more -- all with suggestions and our takes on their movies you should see (Arrival! The Town! Dune!) and movies you should totally skip (Heart of Stone... Eragon... Argylle...) Plus a great chat on Marvel and Disney and all the things.
In the final hour of Stillman & Company, Jared touched on a topic that hasn't gotten much light when it comes to questions and the owners. Where is Amy Adams Shrunk in all this news? Her attendance would reveal to us the true state of the franchise. Is she at these meetings? Also, how much say does Brian Callahan have in these meetings? Jared can't get a good gauge on the situation. Jared came back to the Vols and Rick Barnes as a head coach in college basketball before getting to the Predators game day.
