In just a few decades, Montreal has undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving from the once-revered "city of a hundred steeples" to becoming one of Canada's most secularized urban centres. As a result, the percentage of Montreal's population identifying as evangelical Christians stands today at a mere 0.7%. However, despite this trend of secularization, God is building His Church in Montreal. Pastor Patti Miller, leading the 107 year old community of Evangel Church, stands as a shining example of this reality. Join us for this special two-episode series that focuses on two churches in Montreal and the pastors who lead them, beginning with the one and only Patti Miller. Bio | Patti is a pastor, blogger, urban-dweller, sometimes-runner, who laughs at her own jokes. Loves her spiky-haired husband Jeff, and visits Ukraine any chance she gets. Most of all, she's a follower of Jesus, loved by God. Give today to CCLN and help seed a hopeful future for the Church in Canada. A special session from the 2022 Kyogle Writers Festival with Southern Cross Creative Writing lecturer Lynda Hawryluk and author Patti Miller. They discuss the theme of Patti's new book, True Friends, what makes a memoir truly come alive, the ethics of 'putting someone in your book' and what a 5,000-year-old story can tell us about the psychology of friendship. Some great tips and insights for students of creative writing and memoir writers.
My guests today are ‘Patmos People', a term I coined to describe people that remind me of John the Revelator. From their embedded history in a city, they are uniquely poised to hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church in their location. Just as Jesus expressed his love through John to the Seven Churches of Asia Minor, these Patmos People are living messages of Jesus' love for Montreal.Patti Miller is the lead pastor of Evangel Church, a historic Pentecostal church in the heart of downtown Montreal. Their church is presently developing a multi-story building around the corner that will provide main floor retail, upper church and community spaces and housing units available across the socio-economic spectrum.Cal and Chrissy Krahn are involved in French language training for ministry and are Mission Canada urban workers.Jenna Smith is the Innovation Youth Director for Christian Direction, an agency that works at the intersection of faith, community and urban development.

Do you remember the moment you met each of your closest friends? Patti Miller has one such memory. The author was on a train, and something clicked between her and another girl – instantaneously – as if the same neural pathways were lighting up. Miller is our guest in this episode, which looks at friendship. If there's one thing the past two years has taught us, it's the importance – and fragility – of friendships. Siri Phaneendra hosts this broadcast focusing on language. Language is how we communicate. Reporter of 20/20 Vision, Kenneth Jeon, reminds us that languages aren't just limited to spoken or written words. He brings us examples of film language. Guest authors Wayne Kealohi Powell in Hawaii and Patti Miller in British Columbia, Canada cultivate the spirit of Aloha with their book Hawaiian Shamanistic Healing. Aloha refers to the divine spirit of love that flows through all things. Caitlin Sim offers that language is how we communicate with one another, and how we express our desires and wants. She dissects the 1960s, Flowers for Algernon, showing the struggle between intellect and emotion, between being considered “smart” and having meaningful relationships with others. “Without language, one cannot talk to people and understand them; one cannot share their hopes and aspirations, grasp their history, appreciate their poetry, or savour their songs” - Nelson Mandela
