In this special "No Fear Fall" series kickoff episode, Heather Creekmore digs deep into the connection between faith and fear—two powerful forces that shape our daily lives. Have you ever wondered why “faith over fear” doesn’t always seem to work in real life? Are you struggling to connect your big beliefs about God to your everyday worries and anxieties? This episode is for you. What This Episode Covers: Faith vs. Fear: Heather challenges the widely held belief that faith and fear are simply opposites in a tug-of-war. She explores why this dichotomy might not be the most helpful way for Christians to approach their struggles. Micro Fears and Mosquito Bites: From perfectionism and the fear of failure to tiny, everyday anxieties (like being the “fattest person in the room” or just being late), Heather shares how these micro-fears sap our joy and confidence. Applying Faith to Real Life: Learn why just telling yourself to "have more faith" doesn't always solve the problem—and what true, biblical faith actually looks like in the face of daily struggles. The Object of Your Faith: Is your faith in God’s character and goodness, or just in Him delivering the results you want? Heather unpacks the difference and warns against letting new age manifesting ideas creep into our beliefs. Practical Biblical Encouragement: Heather references Philippians 4 and the life of Abraham to illustrate that faith can be messy, imperfect, and still deeply meaningful. She offers encouragement to keep trusting, even when God’s answers aren’t what you hoped for. Takeaways: Real, life-changing faith is rooted in the character of God—not in specific outcomes or your own plans. It's okay to bring your desires to God, but hold them with open hands, trusting His greater wisdom and love for you. Even imperfect faith holds value; God honors hearts that keep coming back to Him. In this episode of Arise + Abide, Curtis and Sally reflect on Hosea chapter 6, a passage titled A Call to Repentance. Hosea invites the people to return to the Lord with the assurance that God will respond as surely as the dawn breaks and the spring rains fall. Yet the chapter also reveals God's grief over Israel and Judah's fleeting devotion—love that evaporates like morning mist. The discussion explores God's heart for relationship over ritual, emphasizing that He desires love and obedience rather than empty sacrifices. Curtis and Sally connect Hosea's message to Jesus' words in Matthew 9, where He calls for mercy instead of ritual offerings, reminding us that God has always sought hearts that truly know Him. They also consider the cost of discipleship: being vulnerable before God, allowing His Word to cut to the heart, and engaging deeply in scripture, prayer, and community. Amid judgment, Hosea points to God's enduring desire to heal, restore, and make His people whole. The episode closes with the reminder that obedience and love are greater than any outward act of sacrifice, and that God's promises of renewal are as steady as the morning light.

Are you exhausted from trying to be a “better Christian,” follow all the rules, or just fix yourself? In this episode, Heather Creekmore dives into the age-old dilemma every believer faces: Am I supposed to be working on me—and if so, how much of it is up to me, and how much is God’s job? Inspired by the Crowder song “He’s Working on Me Still,” Heather explores the difference between self-powered striving and Spirit-powered transformation. Using honest stories, biblical wisdom (especially from Galatians 5), and practical illustrations, she helps Christian women understand why hustling for holiness leaves us tired—and how true freedom and growth comes when we move from “I’m working on me” to “He’s working on me.” In This Episode: Why spiritual striving, religious rule-following, and willpower can’t bring long-term freedom How diet culture mindsets sneak into our faith and make us rely on formulas instead of God What it means to step out of the driver’s seat and let God be in control (with relatable analogies and humor) The power of relationship over religion and why faith is more than just “doing all the things” How to recognize if your spiritual life is based on head knowledge, not heart transformation Practical steps to move from self-reliance to Spirit-dependence—including honest reflection questions and the importance of daily worship Key Takeaway:Stop striving for self-improvement and start leaning into God’s grace. David compares unity among God's people to the anointing oil flowing over Aaron and the refreshing dew of Mount Hermon—both symbols of blessing and life. Together, Sally and Curtis explore how true harmony cannot be manufactured by individual effort but comes from God's Spirit, covering us like oil and refreshing us like dew. They discuss the rarity and preciousness of harmony, connecting it to Paul's call in Philippians 2 to live with humility, put aside selfishness, and consider the needs of others. Harmony, they note, is not just pleasant but eternal—pointing us toward the blessing of life everlasting. Through stories, analogies, and Scripture, this conversation reminds us that when we live in God's truth and love, we join in the beautiful, Spirit-led symphony of unity that reflects Christ's character and promises life both now and forever.

Episode 73: "BECOMING Refreshed: Your Invitation to Deeper Waters with Amy Allgood" Episode Description Are you feeling weary from the constant pace and pull of life? In this powerful episode, host Cherisse Hixson sits down with mentor, coach, and entrepreneur Amy Allgood to explore what it means to move from spiritual "shallow waters" into the deeper, more abundant life God has for us. Amy shares her journey from being a "selfish Christian" focused on what God could do for her, to discovering the transformative power of asking "What can I do for You, God?" This conversation is a gentle invitation for women who are ready to step beyond surface-level faith into authentic spiritual refreshment, rest, and renewal in Jesus. Meet Amy Allgood Amy is a sought-after speaker, mentor, and entrepreneur who has addressed audiences of over 12,000 women. As a National Sales Director with Mary Kay and leader of women's biblical small groups for nine years, Amy is passionate about helping women discover their unique gifts and calling. She's a wife to Will, mom to three children (ages 12, 10, and 9), and lives in sunny Shalimar, Florida. When she's not mentoring women, you'll find her enjoying good food with friends, "SPA-ING" (her favorite hobby), or traveling to one of the 15+ countries she's visited. Key Takeaways & Timestamps Moving from Head to Heart (17:29) The transformative power of fasting as a spiritual discipline Amy shares miraculous stories from her community's fasting experiences How to fast as a beginner: giving up something you love to gain closeness with God From Shallow to Deep Waters (09:07) Signs you might be living in the "shallow end" spiritually The difference between checking spiritual boxes vs. truly knowing God Moving from "What can You do for me?" to "What can I do for You?" The Martha vs. Mary Balance (12:46) Why women leaders often struggle with the "doing" vs. "being" tension Understanding that if it's not God's calling, there will be no eternal fruit Breaking free from society's "busy badge of honor" mentality Bold Obedience and Sabbath Rest (28:30) Amy's conversation with her Olympic-hopeful daughter about resting on the seventh day Why God's commands aren't suggestions but pathways to blessing The courage required to please God rather than people Standing in the Gap (30:45) God's call for bold believers in this season Personal stories of stepping into God's assignments The blessing of being someone God can count on Scripture Themes Explored Mary and Martha - The balance between doing and being with Jesus Sabbath Rest - God's design for restoration and renewal Standing in the Gap - Being available for God's assignments The Potter and Clay - Surrendering to God's shaping in our lives Practical Application Three Ways to Move Deeper This Week: Try Fasting - Give up something you love (like sugar or social media) to focus on drawing closer to God Practice Listening Prayer - Instead of bringing God your list, sit quietly and ask "What do You want to show me today?" Embrace Sabbath - Take one day to truly rest and reflect, trusting God with your productivity Upcoming Opportunities Refresh Retreat - October 4th (Virtual/Hybrid) Join Amy for her annual "Refresh" retreat, now available virtually for the first time! What would change if you shifted from asking "God, what can You do for me?" to "God, what can I do for You?" Where is God calling you to bold obedience in this season? How can you create more space for listening prayer in your daily rhythm? Quote to Ponder "Be around people who are going to celebrate you and not tolerate you. Early in life we try to please people, we try to impress people, and it's exhausting and it's a waste of time and energy." - Amy Allgood Prayer Father, thank You for pursuing us even when we're content to stay in shallow waters. Give us courage to go deeper with You, to listen more than we speak, and to step boldly into the assignments You have for us. Help us find true refreshment in Your presence and rest in Your perfect love. In Jesus' name, Amen. In this episode of Arise + Abide, Curtis and Sally reflect on Hosea chapter 5, a sobering passage that exposes the failure of Israel's priests and leaders. The text reveals how arrogance, idolatry, and misplaced trust in foreign powers led God's people into spiritual ruin. Despite their sacrifices, the Lord had withdrawn, leaving them to experience the consequences of their rebellion. Curtis and Sally discuss how this chapter shows the depth of Israel's brokenness—their deeds would not allow them to return to God without His intervention. They explore how God's judgment, though severe, carries the promise of restoration when His people confess their guilt and earnestly seek Him again. Drawing connections to Jesus' teachings, they reflect on the cost of discipleship, the danger of idolatry in modern life, and the enduring call to repent and turn back to the Lord. Even in the midst of judgment, Hosea 5 reminds us of God's steadfast desire to be known by His people and His readiness to heal and redeem those who humbly return to Him.

If you've ever second-guessed your sanity, asked Google “Is my husband a narcissist or just an annoying human?” or thought you might be sinning by not cheerfully submitting to your own emotional obliteration, this episode is your wake-up call... with love.Christian counselor, Kris Reece, is back on the show for part two of our convo about the toxic mind games that keep Christian women stuck, particularly when Jesus is used as the emotional ball-and-chain.Together, we unravel gaslighting, guilt, spiritual manipulation, emotional immaturity, and why you're not selfish or sinful for walking away from garbage disguised as godliness.Key Takeaways:Label-Schmabel: Stop obsessing over whether he's a narcissist or just "difficult." The real question is: does he take responsibility or make excuses? That's your answer.Jesus Isn't Your Abuser's Alibi: Jesus didn't die so you could stay trapped in a soul-sucking relationship. Guilt is a Control Tool: Toxic people weaponize your good-girl guilt to keep you stuck. Change the Dance: You can't make him change. But you can change the steps you're taking, and that alone can shift the entire dynamic. You're Not Powerless: If everything hinges on him, you're trapped. Shift the focus back to YOU: your choices, your growth, your freedom.Truth Bomb: It's Not Your Fault: You're not responsible for his tantrums, beliefs, or abuse. You are responsible for how you respond and whether you keep playing along.Rebuilding Takes Time: Gaslighting screws with your reality. In this episode of Arise + Abide, Curtis and Sally reflect on Psalm 132, a psalm that recalls God's promises to David and His desire to dwell among His people. Together they trace the psalm's echoes of David's devotion, Solomon's prayer, and ultimately the eternal fulfillment found in Jesus—the true anointed King from David's line. The conversation explores the tension between human longing to build a place for God and God's deeper desire for relationship with His people. They discuss the psalm's reminder to remain faithful to God's calling, to remember His promises, and to find strength not in work or blessings but in abiding in His presence. From David's restless pursuit to build a house for the Lord, to God's declaration of Jerusalem as His eternal resting place, the episode highlights the unshakable covenant that points to Christ, the worthy One who reigns forever. Listeners are encouraged to see God's heart not as seeking labor or ritual but as longing for communion—an invitation to dwell with Him, receive His strength, and rest in His faithful promises.

Heather speaks into the aftermath of last week’s tragic events to address how these unsettling times can actually serve as a wake-up call for Christian women struggling with body image and comparison. Instead of focusing on the headlines, Heather invites listeners to examine what we’re really battling daily. She explores the big idea that our struggle isn’t with the scale, the mirror, or even other women—it’s a spiritual battle, not “against flesh and blood,” as Ephesians 6:12 says. Heather shares a relatable story about getting a speeding ticket (and her less-than-humble reaction!) as an illustration of the subtle ways pride and self-focus sneak in, keeping us distracted from what God is calling us to. Here are some references & main themes: The assassination of Charlie Kirk: Not the main focus of the episode, but this tragic event is used as context for discussing spiritual wake-up calls and living boldly for Jesus. Us vs. them mentality: How cultural polarization and volatility can lead to numbness or withdrawal, even from our spiritual callings. Spiritual battle vs. physical struggle: Using Ephesians 6:12, Heather emphasizes we need to recognize the spiritual nature of our struggles—especially with body image, insecurity, and comparison. Armor of God (Ephesians 6): Are you more worried about what you wear or making sure you have the armor of God on? The lie of “my truth” vs. God’s truth: Heather draws from the cultural trend of embracing “my truth” and contrasts it with God’s truth, especially in how we view ourselves and our worth. Pride and self-righteousness: Illustrated through her personal speeding ticket story, reminding us how quickly we default to excusing ourselves and judging others. Encouragement for action: Rather than “doing more” or “trying harder,” Heather invites listeners to actually follow Jesus, not just fit Him into their goals and plans. Overcoming shame and guilt: She warns listeners not to get caught in the enemy’s trap of shame for not being "further along" in their spiritual walk, and instead to run toward Jesus, the light, and real security. Programs and Resources Mentioned: 40-Day Journey: Starts October 1st, with groups beginning October 7th. Details at improvebodyimage.com or directly at: https://www.improvebodyimage.com/40-day-challenge Body Image Freedom Framework: Heather’s online course for deeper freedom in the areas discussed in the episode. Coaching and community offerings: Here are links to programs designed to equip women for the real battle. Questions to Reflect On: Which “battle” am I spending most of my time and energy on each day? How does believing my own truth about my body or worth keep me from living in God’s truth? Am I taking Jesus along for my ride, or am I letting Him lead? Final encouragement: Heather calls listeners to reject shame, fight the real battle, and let their light shine for Christ. She challenges us to think about how we will be remembered—not as women obsessed with their image, but as those unafraid to shine the light of Jesus. For more: Listen to this episode for Heather’s personal stories, practical encouragement, and a heartfelt call to step out of comparison and into true freedom.
