To thine own self be true: Sharon Brous has let this advice illuminate her path to becoming a rabbi. She was raised with a strong social, but not religious, Jewish identity. The more she studied and admired the humanity in the sages' writings, the more Brous felt her voice was silenced simply because she is a woman. Today, as an ordained rabbi, Brous's decades of hands-on pastoral care in Los Angeles has cleared “a path to become myself.” Her book, The Amen Effect—and how to get it—is embraced by seekers of every stripe and urges us to seek human connection in an increasingly isolated and divided world.
For this month's #LiteraryAnything episode we're sharing our author talk with Paul Flavel in conversation with Georgina McGuinness, where together they discussed Paul's book 'John Martin's: The Story of South Australia's Beloved Department Store'. The passing of the years has not dulled SA's loved for 'Johnnies', with thousands of people working there and even more loyally shopping there. It was amazing to see so many people join us for this author talk who still had very fond memories of the store.

https://nancykricorian.net/In vivid, poetic prose Nancy Kricorian's THE BURNING HEART OF THE WORLD tells the story of a Beirut Armenian family before, during, and after the Lebanese Civil War. Returning to the fabular tone of ZABELLE, her popular first novel, Kricorian conjures up the lost worlds and intergenerational traumas that haunt a family in permanent exile. Leavened with humor and imbued with the timelessness of a folktale, THE BURNING HEART OF THE WORLD is a sweeping saga that takes readers on an epic journey from the mountains of Cilicia to contemporary New York City.“Like colorful miniatures—from a childhood of elders haunted by the Armenian genocide, to girlhood and adolescence amidst war in Beirut, to marriage and children in New York at the time of 9/11—Nancy Kricorian finds just the right scale to bring her heroine's passage to vivid, reverberating life.” —Aram Saroyan“An arrestingly beautiful novel of how families draw us together, but also push us apart. Set amidst the backdrop of displacement and war, THE BURNING HEART OF THE WORLD illuminates how we carry history deep into even the most forgotten corners of ourselves. Once you start reading about Vera and her family you won't be able to put this book down.” —Marie Myung-Ok Lee, Author of The Evening Hero

If you know me, you know I have loved to read since my days in the little red schoolhouse. I love to read everything. Devotionals to challenge me, scholarly texts to enrich me, and historical fiction to take me places I have never been or could never go. Today, I have the privilege of talking with one of my favorite historical fiction authors, Sarah Sundin. For those of you who don't know her, she is the author of over a dozen novels exploring the drama, daring, and romance of the World War II era. Lean in and listen to Sarah's incredible story and grab her latest novel, Embers in the London Sky: (WWII Historical Fiction with Mystery, Suspense, and Clean Romance).Connect with Sarah Sundin on her website at https://www.sarahsundin.com/The Significant Women podcast is full of personal stories, dynamic hope, and sage wisdom from women who have gleaned all that they can from the ordinary days of an uncommon life. They aren't significant because of their fame or success…they are significant because Jesus is in the details of their lives.Connect with Carol McLeod at https://www.carolmcleodministries.com Email: carolmcleod@carolmcleodministries.comHttps://carolmcleodministries.comFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/carolmcleodministriesInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/carolmcleod_Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQE6z9U5VR9tjoJB1NAsgMw

This episode marks the beginning of a new IMKC series called Author Talks, where host Kimberlé Crenshaw sits down with the authors of books banned by anti-CRT legislation. They break down why the featured author's work is so crucial to an understanding of America's racial history, and why its opponents have labeled the work's subject matter as forbidden knowledge. On this episode, Kim is joined by Ibram X. Kendi, founding Director of Boston University Center for Anti-Racist Research, and the youngest winner of the National Book Award for his non-fiction work Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America. They discuss the importance of talking to kids about racism, and unpack the fear-mongering around Kendi's critically acclaimed books about racism for kids, including Stamped: Racism, Anti-racism, and You, and Stamped (For Kids), both co-authored by Jason Reynolds. These vital books have been challenged or pulled from school libraries across the country.
