What a difference 12 months makes! After years of declining sales in the auction realm, there are finally signs of life. The Artnet Intelligence Report: The Year Ahead 2026 reveals that global auction totals were up 13.3 percent in 2025 versus 2024. The full report, rich with new findings, is now available as a crisp PDF. The price? Free. (We hope that its contents will inspire you to subscribe to Artnet Pro, and to partake of the Artnet Price Database.) In the report's cover story, “Dark Mode,” Artnet's Art Detective columnist, Katya Kazakina, delves into the intriguing and shadowy world of private auctions, where big-league paintings (and cars, jewelry, and more) trade behind closed doors, for enormous sums. In some cases, only certain collectors are invited. Many in this clandestine business seem to enjoy it, and Kazakina charts the major players and their strategies. Meanwhile, in wide-ranging interviews, an auctioneer (maverick Joe Maddalena), an auctioneer-turned advisor (powerhouse Patti Wong), and an auctioneer-turned dealer (rainmaker David Schrader) share their insights on the changing state of play in public salesrooms. And Margaret Carrigan, who helms The Back Room newsletter for Artnet Pro, marshals data to explain the state of play in the art industry. There is more: Here's the download link once more. On this week's Art Angle podcast, Kazakina sat down with Andrew Russeth, Artnet Pro's editor, to discuss private auctions, the Intelligence Report, and what to expect at the big May sales in New York.

In episode 128, author Susan Francis joins James and Ashley to share the insidious ways invisible illness and ageism have impacted her sense of self and forced her to reframe her thinking. At 65 years old, Susan lives with atrial fibrillation (AF), a type of arrhythmia that can lead to heart failure. She shares the challenges of this condition and her creative efforts to be a good (literary) friend despite the limitations of her health. Susan also discusses her shift from memoir to fiction, and how she crafted her debut historical novel, Revelation Beach, which explores East Timor during the era of the Balibo Five. Plus, in this month's What Are You Reading segment, Ashley and Susan go deep into Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan (warning: slight spoiler), we return to the frustration/brilliance of Tana French's In the Woods, and James introduces his razor-blade theory of novel endings. Susan Francis is a writer, teacher and editor. Her memoir The Love that Remains was published in 2020. Her debut novel, Revelation Beach, came out in 2025. Find Revelation Beach and Susan's memoir at Booktopia or from your local bookshop or library. You'll come away from this episode with a faster, smarter iPhone and Mac workflow dialed in. You learn how to boss Siri around for brightness, Dark Mode, CarPlay directions, and per‑source audio levels, so your phone actually behaves in the car and on the couch. You tap into power‑user gestures like two‑finger‑tap to open links in a new Safari tab, Quick Actions to spin anything into a PDF, and Option‑click display rotation on the Mac. You even get sneaky with ad‑supported games by flipping Airplane Mode, and peek at where on‑device AI is heading with tools like Locally AI from the SXSW “more personal computer” session. Then you shift into solving real listener problems so your Apple gear finally stays in sync with you. You clean up contact groups, fix that iPad Mail inbox that doesn't match your other devices, and fight back against toll‑free robocalls. You hear which iPhone cases and glass protectors the geeks actually trust, plus protection options like Verizon Home Protect and automation tools like Crank to trigger actions based on what you're doing. The whole way through, you're reminded of the Mac Geek Gab mantra: Don't Get Caught missing the tweaks, tricks, and Cool Stuff Found that make your Apple life smoother. 00:00:00 Mac Geek Gab 1134 for Monday, March 23rd, 2026 March 23rd: World Math Day MGG Monthly Giveaway – Enter to win a copy of SoundSource from Rogue Amoeba! This week on the podcast, Kat Shoulders is back to chat with Zach Kazan about her recent experience with IWC in Los Angeles. Most of what Kat saw she can't discuss until Watches & Wonders embargoes lift, but the brand did drop a brand new version of their Portugieser chronograph in Ceratanium, and it has inspired a wide range of commentary across the watch community. Kat talks about her impressions of the watch itself, what makes Ceratanium special, and what its use in the Portugieser collection might mean for the future. They also chat about three recent pilot chronographs that have all been released in the last week or so from Sinn, Benrus, and Hanhart, three very different flavors of chronograph that still sit within a very specific niche. Be sure to let us know in the comments which of these chronographs you prefer, or if you're more interested in the “murdered out” look of the new Portugieser. Hour 1 of The Plank Show with Chris Plank and Blake Gamble is jam-packed of audio and analysis of Saturday Night's awesome Sooner Football victory over the Tennessee Volunteers.
GoVols247's Patrick Brown and Ryan Callahan break down Tennessee's 33-27 home loss to Oklahoma at Neyland Stadium on Saturday night. The Vols saw their College Football Playoff chances snuffed out with three games to go as Josh Heupel's team lost to Josh Heupel's alma mater. Tennessee could have been out of sight early, but a slew of mistakes on offense squandered multiple opportunities for early scores and separation on the scoreboard. A missed field goal and three turnovers represented a huge swing as the Sooners led at the break despite the Dark Mode having big advantages in yards, plays run, first downs and third-down conversions. Then the offense, defense and special teams took turns letting Tennessee down in the second half as Oklahoma took the lead in the third quarter and held off some late attempts at a rally with a fourth-down stop on a dropped pass looming large against the Vols. We discussed what went wrong and where the Vols go from here with their Playoff hopes done.
