Pickman's Model by H.P. Lovecraft. Read by Mike Bennett.
A favorite of Lovecraft fans, "Pickman's Model", ties directly to DREAM-QUEST and was written around time, but is a great tale in which we see Lovecraft trying new narrative techniques. And in good Lovecraft fashion we get a look at the underground architecture of decaying city.
An unnamed narrator expresses to a friend on why he lost contact with a painter by the name of Pickman, as well as going into his reasons for not entering the subway any longer. A short story from H.P Lovecraft and a part of the spooky season cheer to spread around. My Immortal will be continued next weekend. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
On this episode we cover the Lovecraft short story "Pickman's Model" by listener request! Let's see what Pickman can show us of terror and what Orthodoxy can show us of beauty.
Melanie reads us Pickman's Model by the one and only H.P. Lovecraft for the 7th Day o' Christmas.
We're back to our regularly scheduled podcast and we're swinging by Boston to visit local artist, Richard Pickman's studio. Weirdly, he doesn't do nudes. HPL for SJWs will post on a bi-monthly schedule- the 14th and 28th of every month. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please feel free to email me at hpl4sjws@tutamail.com. This is a one-woman show; I do all the reading, producing, adapting, writing, and crying for this podcast. So if you like what you hear, and want to provide me with the caffeine necessary for my continued existence, I accept tips at ko-fi.com/hplforsjws. The Andy's start out discussing the Quincy Jones GQ interview before quickly discussing their album picks of the week. They then move on to dispensing with Pixies and then use the remaining time to fellate Nirvana and their influence, positive and negative, on pop music before somehow drifting in to radical left politics. Good Evening Kitties! Tonight marks the last episode in our "Month of Lovecraft." So I bring you a particularly classic tale of terror about how one man's paintings are highly detailed. So exquisite the detail, so horrific the realism, that one would not wish to see "Pickman's Model" Support "Twisted Teatime" on Patreon at: www.patreon.com/themadcatter Original Content is Copyright 2016 Z.P. Movie Meltdown - Episode 353 This week we are coming to you "live" from WonderFest where we sit down with director William Malone to discuss his movies Scared to Death, Parasomnia, House on Haunted Hill as well as the notorious Creature! Plus his work on Tales from the Crypt, Freddy's Nightmares and Masters of Horror. And we hear out about growing up as a monster kid, making masks and finding a way to use all that to get into filmmaking. We also talk about his obsession with Robby the Robot, creating the original Michael Myers mask and working on the H. R. Giger project that never happened. And as we both decide the world is much better off without Klaus Kinski, we also mention... Hemlock Grove, Famous Monsters, Nautilus, Pickman's Model, the Pee Wee Herman bike, an eight ball going up his shirt coming out the neck hole, the sad life of David Spade, Dominique Swain, rebooting It, Vincent Price, give me clay, making foam rubber mask, Dick Smith, moulage, phone books, Bud Westmore, it was a week of hell, William Castle, getting toxic from all the chemicals, the director is kind of the low man on the totem pole, Warner Brothers' movie... done by Warner Brothers. They told us we couldn't afford to shoot on their lot, he's got a van somewhere with candy in the back, Don Rosa, Marie Laurin, horror hosts, you can't be tazed and be attractive, David Warner, Ron Perlman, Jeffrey Combs, phonin' home with E.T., Necromancer, UCLA, Spielberg's company is after me, new Adam Sandler movies, Pennywise, Creature from the Black Lagoon in 3D, Terry Castle, Bill Skarsgård, dude you are sassy wherever you are going, I broke the first rule of filmmaking and being ripped off by James Cameron. "I had heard that Klaus was - insane... so I wrote this insane... German commander." Thanks to WonderFest for letting us be part of the show! Story by H.P. Lovecraft, read by Julie HoversonCover art by Brett CoulstockMusic by Kevin MacLeod Does art create atmosphere, or vice versa? And what about an artist? (Keep in mind, these stories were recorded when Julie was still learning how to mix and work with audio - so the sound quality may be a little ... patchy.)
