Today, we note that the market's stabilization attempt from Friday seems to have failed as risk-off has gone global in equities, perhaps led by the meltdown in Bitcoin. Amidst the deepening unease, it's remarkable that bond markets, with the notable exception of Japan, remain calm, while transmission into FX is minimal. But the tension is building, with a key event risk on Friday for Japan possibly set to unleash volatility. This and much more on today's podcast, which is hosted by Saxo Global Head of Macro Strategy John J. Hardy. Links discussed on the podcast and our Chart of the Day can be found on the John J. The Houston Rockets rallied from down 14 points to beat the Orlando Magic in overtime on Sunday night. They did it behind Kevin Durant's 35 points and a clutch shot by Alperen Sengun to send the game into overtime. Also, it may have been boring in Tennessee, but a win is a win. It seemed for a while like the Texans might blow an opportunity to beat the worst team in football, but a last-second field goal put them ahead in the end. Brandon Scott is here reacting to it all with you on The B-Block.
BT and Sal unleash a fiery response to the news that Giants rookie Abdul Carter was benched for one series because he missed a walkthrough while asleep in the team facility. Further reporting reveals that Brian Daboll had previously allowed Carter's trend of being late to meetings to "slide." The hosts slam the incident as an "appalling" sign of the Giants' broken culture and a lack of accountability from both the former head coach and current interim Mike Kafka, whose mild punishment is deemed insufficient. They argue that the veteran leadership, including Dexter Lawrence, is also failing to check the young player. The discussion begins with a debate over whether the Giants have been reckless with rookie QB Jaxson Dart, concluding that his rushing has been "necessary" given the team's deficiencies, but must be refined going forward. The segment closes by drawing a line from the Giants' current woes back to the neutering of Tom Coughlin's authority to placate Odell Beckham Jr., arguing the organization has prioritized talent over foundation and discipline for years.

Cuéntame, ¿cuál vas a probar primero? This week, the gang dives headfirst into the weird, wild world of AI video creation — from Sora 2 and Grok to the strange new internet characters they're spawning. Tim shares how he's been using Sora to make surreal videos for Gilbert (and inventing a whole alternate-dimension being named Gob-Loaf along the way), while Dustin and Lizzie trade their own AI stories and Jeff admits he's just waiting until they let you make porn. We also tackle the viral Food Stamp “Toast Lady” video that fooled half of TikTok (spoiler: she's not real — just another AI fever dream). In Views or Snooze, the crew previews the week's big streaming drops: * Death by Lightning (Netflix) — Michael Shannon brings President Garfield back from the dead (metaphorically). * Frankenstein (Netflix) — Guillermo del Toro's gothic vision finally arrives… a week late for Halloween. * Pluribus (Apple TV+) — Vince Gilligan returns with Rhea Seehorn in a mysterious new drama. * Plus: Jeff's culinary Staff Pick — the Whataburger patty melt with a blackberry Dr Pepper milkshake — and Tim's Text Impressions, featuring Sam Elliott reflecting on life with Billy Bob Thornton as his son.

This week on Radio Labyrinth Tim is out sick, but the rest of the gang dives headfirst into the latest failed prophecy: The Rapture That Wasn't. Apparently, September 23, 2025, was supposed to be the big day. People were selling cars, homes, and cashing out like Blockbuster stock in 2010. But—spoiler alert—we're all still here. So why do people keep falling for these very specific “end of the world on Tuesday at 4pm” prophecies? We break down the history of doomsday predictions, from Harold Camping's 2011 miss to the Millerites' “Great Disappointment” of 1844, to Heaven's Gate and Hale-Bopp, to secular versions like Y2K and the 2012 Mayan calendar scare. It's always the same pattern: finite, dramatic, and always a letdown.
