Eclectica Episode 7: Audible AnomaliesI've been sitting on this episode for a bit; trying to decide whether or not to publish it as-it was when I first "finished" it, on the night of its creation. Since my microphone woes have not quiiite yet been resolved (though a remedy is fast approaching on the horizon- with the help of UPS ;)), it occurred to me to try something new for a change, and put a little twist in the mix. What exactly? Well, I thought I might let my screen reader speak for me this time, as our temporary show announcer! ^_^ I thought it'd be something neat, new and unique, you know? But in the end, I decided to go with the advice of a more seasoned podcaster. Therefore, in lieu of letting Jorgan the Electronic Voice Announcer speak up for me (to save you all from having to bear with my cruddy microphone), I chose to re-produce it, w/my own (hopefully pleasing & endearingly oddball) voice. :)As for the rest of the show's content; a couple of weeks ago I got a "bee in my bonnet" to suddenly make an impromptu, relatively short podcast centered around all of these great bits of music that have not (as yet) fit into any particular show or theme on Eclectica. Therefore, they're the show's "anomalies" as it were. :) -This is NOT so say that these pieces or bands are weird or bizarre or freakish in any negative sense of the words. Not one bit. These artists & their music all rock considerably (otherwise, why the heck would I feature them here??). They are all just so good, their music could go just about anywhere. And thus, mehopes you see my problem. ;)But I'll let the music speak to you for itself. :)As always, if you have any thoughts or ideas you might like to relay to me regarding the show, I'd love to hear from you; my rockin' public. :D You can always feel free to contact me (via my new e-mail addy; djselchie@gmail.com) about programming, artists whom you might like to hear featured on Eclectica, etc., or for any other reason if you wish. And musicians, bands, recording artists etc. are (again, as per usual) most welcome to submit their music for potential use on the show. :)Aaaanyhoo..! I hope you're happy wherever you are, and that if you can hear me or know my heart right now, that you realize how much of an impact you made in my life, and how much of an impression you made in the lives of so many, many others.Love You,NaeP.S.-This episode is also dedicated to all of those who might be dealing with the loss of of a loved-one; as well as to the memories of those whom we've lost through years. The next installment of Eclectica is: Happy Hallowe'en!-Part 1I have been SO EXCITED about my Hallowe'en episode for Ecltectia!! I've been searching & searching, gathering & re-gathering music for some time now; in anticipation of making a Hallowe'en episode for you, my dear listeners- and all the folks like me who just ADORE the holiday. ^_^ Unfortunately however, my job & my organization of a very large zombie event in DC prevented me from working on it as much as I'd have liked until -after- All Hallow's Eve. :( -But never fear! I will NOT let that stop me from publishing all the fun, fantastic music I've compiled for this illustrious (if now past) occasion! I've been bustin' my butt nights and weekends trying to put this crazy thing together, and I really hope you like what you hear. ^_^I had to divide this super-sized episode into two parts, since when the whole thing was finished it ran a whopping hour and a half! (And there were still tracks I ended up omitting! O.O)First off, as I spend much of each year garnering zombie music to play for the DC Zombie Lurch, we start this episode off with two spiffy songs that're zombie-related! :D Both come from the Podcast Music Network- (as do most of the songs I play here on Eclectica). :)1. Jonathan Coulton - Re; Your Brains2 Tom Smith - Undead Happy TreesNext, a few fun tracks I encountered while scoping out the PMN; one which I don't truly think is about witches, and the other from a longtime favorite of mine- who's a master of the unusual, somewhat creepy, darker sound and wicked, wicked lyrics. ^_^3. Bloc Party - Hunting for Witches4. Tom Waits - How's it Going to End?After that, I HAD to play something from a veritable icon in the Goth/spooky community- Voltaire! (I had the pleasure of seeing him live at CBGB's while I was spending some time in NYC, and he was super-nice. -After his performance I waited in line to speak to him, n' when it was my turn I relayed that I'd been having an uber-crappy day, and how much he'd made it better w/his awesome performance. What'd he do? He hugged me n' gave me a few bits of freebie merch to cheer me up. :):) What a good guy! :D:D)After that comes a terribly appropriately-named band (well, at least where the holiday is concerned- but Hallowe'en or not- ya gotta love it! ;D), w/their even more appropos song "Halloween Girl." ..How could I resist?? ;D5. Voltaire - When You're Evil (Permission given by the artist.)6. Ghosts on the Radio - Halloween Girl Next up, one of my all-time favorite comedians- and you cannot imagine how elated I was to find he had some of his stuff on IODA! :D:D This guy is insanely funny- as long as you're not easily offended. ;) After that, check out this wicked song in the movie "Dead and Breakfast." If you like silly or fun horror mixed w/a bit of conscious cheese and a liberal dose of humour, you're gonna love this flick- and the super music Zachariah supplies for it all throughout the film! :D7. Stephen Lynch - Halloween (Courtesy of the Ioda PromoNet.)8. Zachariah and the Lobos Rider - We're Comin' ta Kill Ya (Permission given by the artist.)Lastly (for this section of the ep. anyway), we have a seriously spooky tale told by a very talented storyteller, whom I've had the pleasure of seeing on a few occassions. He does lots of pieces inspired by the fae, vampires and such, and this is- aside from perhaps one other, just about the scariest piece I've heard of his. So, it's up- and you'll hear the end of it on Eclectica's next installment! *evil grins*9. Joshua Safford - The Midnight Circus -Part One (Permission kindly given by the artist.)If you'd like to know more, see more, and hear more about the talented folks who're featured today (of course you do!!) than click on the links amidst the playlist. The artist's name will be linked to their official web site, and if a myspace page is available for them and/or their work, you'll find that link under the song/piece name. :) All pieces were acquired via the Podcast Music Network, unless otherwise noted. And lastly, if you have any requests, ideas, suggestions or comments about the show, plesae feel free to e-mail me (DJ Selchie) at wytherwiere@hotmail.com.Thanks so much for listening, and I hope you'll come back again soon! ^_^Many Grateful Cheers,DJ Selchie

Episode 15 is all about preparing and spinning cotton. Joining me in the podcast are some of my spinning friends with some very good explanations of just how they do this.  And also something new to the show this time:  videos! First as promised a very special spinning movie.  Currently it is on YouTube, to save me some MB storage space here.  The  Spinning Movie is set to music from Kelvin Bear, who I found on the Podsafe Music Network.  This artist does not seem to have a website, so here's a link to his music.  Now for some instructional videos.  These are for folks with DSL access. Carding cotton and making punis   Support spindle spinning cotton  Setting up a charkha and spinning   Here are the same videos, at reduced bandwidths for dialup: Carding cotton and making punis  Support spindle spinning cotton  Setting up a charkha and spinning cotton This is all a grand experiment for me, and you may find that because I had to use Windows Movie Maker for editing, that they will only play in Windows Media Player.  If you do not have that media playing software, you should at least be able to view the Spinning Movie on Youtube, and well as the Cotton Carding  and Support spindle spinning cotton. Enjoy! All music for this podcast is from the Podcast Music Network. Brian McRae  song July Moon provided the interlude music. Ben Willmott  ends the podcasts with the song Fireworks.  This was a fun podcast to make, and I hope you have as much fun listening to it. Happy Spinning!

Well, now that Cirie and Tracy are on the same tribe we'll really be able to sort out who the top dog is in Survivor Micronesia. Who's your vote for the best blindside face so far this season?: MikeyB when Mary was voted out or Joel when the karma train came calling? What do you think Ami's best play is? Should she defect to Tracy's weakling coalition? How long do you think we'll have to wait to see if Jason plays the fake HII? Was it a mistake for Ozzy to tell the Pleasure Alliance about the HII? What do you think your best play is if you think you found an HII? What would you do if you were in Jonathan's shoes? Do you risk it and wait until there are obvious signs that it's infected and your health begins to deteriorate? Is there anything you could do from a "bush medicine" perspective to help it heal? Here are the tribes after episode 5: New Airai: Alexis, Eliza, James, Jason, Jonathan, Kathleen, Natalie, and Parvati New Malakal: Amanda, Ami, Chet, Cirie, Erik, Ozzy, and Tracy Jo Ann thinks that it will be safe to get rid of Chet now that Joel's gone. Stacy thinks Parvati will have it in for Natalie. Who's your pick for the next one to get voted out? Tomorrow's interview will mark our 200th podcast and we're looking forward to celebrating that with you in the Listener Feedback show on Monday. We've got several ways you can reach us. You can call and leave a voicemail at 206-350-JASS(5277). There's a new alpha male in the Airai tribe and her name is Tracy. To quote Yogi Berra, "This is like deja vu all over again." Is anyone else struck by the similarities in the episodes week to week as the balance plays back and forth between the tribes? I want to say this was a blindside again, but after watching the video at CBS where you get to hear what everyone says when they vote, it appears that Mikey B knew it was coming. What's your view on Tracy after seeing her work her magic on Joel? Do you think that was a smart play for Joel? Was it the best play for the Airai tribe? Can you think of anyone that has ever been as good as Ozzy at figuring out the optimal approach to a challenge? How do you think Alexis' assessment of Ozzy affected her fellow Airai tribemates? Do you think Kathy has quit and is just along for the ride at this point? What did you think of Eeyore, the fake Hidden Immunity Idol? Here are the tribes after episode 4: Airai: Alexis, Chet, Erik, Jason, Joel, Kathleen, Natalie, and Tracy Malakal: Amanda, Ami, Cirie, Eliza, James, Jonathan, Ozzy, and Parvati Stacy is back to thinking that Chet will be eliminated next. Jo Ann professes to have no clue and just agrees with Stacy to get him to shutup and finish the show. Who's your pick for the next one to get voted out? Reminder: The Listener Feedback show is moving to Monday starting next week. To be included in the show we need your feedback by 5pm PST. We've got several ways you can reach us. There's a new alpha male in the Malakal tribe and her name is Cirie. The blindsides continued, but this time it was the audience and not a Survivor on the receiving end. The brutal, extreme, battle ends up being a reward challenge which threw the basis for most of our guesses about who would go home out the window. Kudos to the fans this week though. As Joel said, they got beat twice this week: once by the Favs and then again by mother nature. Then, they somehow find the strength to hang in and win an endurance challenge for immunity. What do you think about the new female, final 3 alliance in the Favs tribe? Do you think they can keep it together and ride it all the way to the end? Do you think Jonathan and Ami stand a chance now that they've been excluded from the "Pleasure Alliance"? Who do you think will go first from the Fans: Joel or MikeyB? Here are the tribes after episode 3: Airai: Alexis, Chet, Erik, Jason, Joel, Kathleen, Mikey, Natalie, and Tracy Malakal: Amanda, Ami, Cirie, Eliza, James, Jonathan, Ozzy, and Parvati Jo Ann thinks Joel will be next target. So long Mary. We hardly knew ya. Enough with the quitting. This week we're treated to a classic blindside! Joel decided it was time to send a message, and Mary was basically collateral damage. Instead of focusing on how to make the tribe stronger and best equiped for the next challenge, it was time for an alpha male to establish the pecking order. Given everything we saw in episode 2, which tribe do you think will be in the best position to win the next super physical challenge? In Chet's intro video, he described himself as "...a more edgy Ozzy". He also said, "I can pretty much do what he's done except I'm a little more out there". I think Chet's immunity challenge performance answered any questions we might have had about his physical abilities. VS It's starting to look like the Favs may be safe for a little while as the Fans are on track to becoming as dysfunctional as the wack jobs in the Casaya tribe from Survivor Panama Exile Island. What do you think was really behind Joel's decision to target Mary? Is Joel shaping up to be our villian for this season? How would you rate the performance of the Super Fans to date? Here are the tribes after episode 2: Airai: Alexis, Chet, Erik, Jason, Joel, Kathleen, Mikey, Natalie, and Tracy Malakal: Amanda, Ami, Cirie, Eliza, James, Jonathan, Ozzy, Parvati, and Yau-Man Jo Ann thinks Kathleen will be the next target. Stacy thinks they'll come to their senses and get rid of Chet because Kathy can actually swim. Who's your pick for the next one to get voted out? We've got several ways you can reach us.
