Phil Allen is joined by co-host Jess to hear remixes of an absolute gem of a one hit wonder from 1996. The Donna Lewis ditty “I Love You Always Forever.”

We had the pleasure of interviewing Donna Lewis over Zoom video! The new album ‘Rooms With A View' is a collaboration between celebrated singer and songwriter Donna Lewis and renowned electronic artist and producer Holmes Ives.More than just an album though, the record documents Donna's year long journey through breast cancer: “Cancer was the un-invited messenger, the darkdweller who I sought to banish with the love of my family, brilliant doctors and my art”.In 2021 Donna Lewis was about to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of her breakthrough smash hit single ‘I Love You, Always Forever' and her debut album, ‘Now In A Minute' when a routine medical check up, (delayed by the pandemic), brought her the news that no-one ever wants to hear. All plans in place to mark the anniversary, the tour dates, the live TV special, the remixes, were all put on hold to deal with more urgent matters. Donna then spent the next year or so undergoing treatment and surgery, all the while actively writing and recording, before finally late in 2022 she felt ready to prepare for releasing new music once again.Donna had been introduced to the work of electronic artist and producer Holmes Ives in 2021 when he had created a reworking of a piano vocal track she had released called ‘I Told You So'. Since then she had always wanted to further collaborate with him so when it came time to get creative again she suggested they write maybe 2 or 3 tracks together as a potential release for the two of them. All done remotely, they have yet to meet in person, musical ideas were passed back and forth and Holmes worked up tracks for Donna to write lyrics to.As Donna began the creative writing process, she soon realised that without any intent to do so, every set of lyrics going down on the page all represented a different chapter of what she had experienced over the preceding year. Some cryptically capture the trauma and the fear of the diagnosis and treatment while others were observational recollections of more mundane aspects, such as her favorite nurse or the different views from the various treatment rooms. What had been intended to be a four track EP now became an album as how the chapters of the story unfolded made it impossible to convey this momentous journey in anything less.“The instrumental tracks that Holmes Ives sent me coaxed the lyrics from the pages of my journals and inspired an album of stories, unlocking fears, and the climb to a healthier me -mind, body and spirit”Donna's strong and inspiring lyrics, enhanced by her expressive vocal prowess which she has become famous for, married seamlessly with the driving rhythmic dimensions of Holmes Ives stunning sound-beds and has resulted in an awe -inspiring testament of strength, gratitude and facing fears. As well as providing an immensely satisfying musical listening experience, it also relays support and inspiration to anyone who needs it, no matter whatever the reasons in this ever more challenging world of today.“It is an offering of hope for anyone going through a dark tunnel. I am forever grateful to share it with you”.We want to hear from you! Filmmaker, director, and Valencia guitarist Brendan Walter was one of thirty-two students sued by the RIAA for downloading music while he was attending Drexel University, and we have to wonder if one of the songs he LimeWired was the 1996 Donna Lewis pop gem “I Love You Always Forever”. This Welsh artist took a nursery rhyme chorus and made Billboard history, which was clearly a magical time full of exotic sweetness that made an impact on Brendan as he laid under a blue sky with pure white stars. Trevor and Ryan are back with another Verse of the Day episode! In case you're new to the podcast, we don't look at the verse of the day until the cameras are rolling, the mics are recording, and there's no help for us outside of the Bibles in front of us and everything we can remember from Bible college years ago. In this episode, after a short plug for our annual and upcoming "Blessed To Bless" series, the guys dig into Matthew 6:14, covering its importance in the middle of the Sermon on the Mount, the nuance of forgiveness, and how forgiveness is a dangerous doorway into true healing. Rather than joining in the conversation like normal, let us know that you've chosen someone that you're going to work toward forgiving because you have been forgiven by God or by emailing us at ryan@kingswaymo.com For more information about our previous Blessed To Bless mission partners, check out episodes 94-96 linked below. Cette semaine on parle d'une one-hit wonder qui s'est offert un tube hyper cul-cul mais terriblement efficace qui a pris le monde par surprise en 1996. C'est I Love You Always Forever de Donna Lewis! King's Way is in the middle of our Blessed to Bless Generosity Campaign, where we are doing our best to follow God's call to bless others with what we have been given. We want to give out of love and compassion, and what better way is there to foster that love than to hear from the people we want to bless as a church! In this episode, Trevor and Ryan interview Donna Lewis from the Tri-County Pregnancy Resource Center in Aurora, MO. The biblical call for believers to be pro-life is more than simply being pro-birth, and the TCPRC is displaying that conviction with their time, effort, and love in real ways. SUMMARY:Our guest on this episode of Songcraft is Richard Marx, who is best known for writing and recording hits such as “Don't Mean Nothing,” “Hold on to the Nights” and “Right Here Waiting.” But that's only part of the story. As a songwriter, Marx has written #1 hits for other artists, ranging from Kenny Rogers to Josh Groban to NSYNC to Keith Urban. He's sold more than 30 million albums as an artist, earned the Grammy Song of the Year as a writer, and, with the publication of his new memoir on July 6th, is now an author with many amazing stories to tell. PART ONE:Scott and Paul talk about the new Songcraft T-shirts, and wonder if Richard Marx is perhaps in an elite club whose only other members are the Bee Gees. PART TWO: Our in-depth conversation with Richard MarxABOUT RICHARD MARXGrammy-winning performer Richard Marx has sold more than 30 million albums as an artist, but if you only know him from late 1980s ballads such as “Hold on to the Nights” and “Right Here Waiting,” you only know part of the story. A prolific songwriter, Marx has landed fourteen songs at the top of various Billboard charts, and has written a #1 single in each of the last four decades. His genre-crossing songwriting success includes “What About Me” and “Crazy,” which Kenny Rogers carried to the top of the Adult Contemporary and Country charts, respectively; “Edge of a Broken Heart,” a hit for the female metal band Vixen; “This I Promise You,” a Top 5 pop single for NSYNC that stayed at #1 on the Adult Contemporary Chart for 13 weeks; Josh Groban's debut single “To Where You Are,” which also reached #1; and “Dance With My Father,” which Richard wrote with the song's performer, Luther Vandross, and which earned the pair the prestigious Grammy Song of the Year award in 2004. Additionally, Richard has scored three major hits with Keith Urban: the Top 5 “Everybody,” and the #1 singles “Better Life” and “Long Hot Summer.” Despite all his songwriting success, however, Marx is best known as a singer and performer who today jokes about his 80s hairstyle and of-the-era drum sounds. But the songs are undeniable, all of which Marx wrote and produced himself. His debut self-titled album yielded four Top 5 singles: “Don't Mean Nothing,” “Should've Known Better,” “Endless Summer Nights,” and “Hold on to the Nights.” His follow-up, 1989's Repeat Offender, was even more successful, going quadruple-platinum and earning two number one Billboard pop singles, “Satisfied” and “Right Here Waiting,” in addition to the Top 5 “Angelina.” More hits followed, including “Keep Coming Back,” “Hazard,” “Take This Heart,” “Now and Forever,” and “Until I Find You Again.” In addition, Richard's songs have been integral to a number of successful film soundtracks. He earned a Grammy nomination for his contributions to St. Elmo's Fire; scored a Top 10 pop hit with “Surrender to Me,” which Ann Wilson of Heart and Robin Zander of Cheap Trick recorded for the movie Tequila Sunrise, and wrote “At the Beginning,” a hit duet for the film Anastasia that Richard performed with Donna Lewis. Over the course of his career, Richard's songs have been recorded by Barbra Streisand, The Tubes, Sarah Brightman, Monica, Natalie Cole, Michael Bolton, Paulina Rubio, Emerson Drive, Chicago, Billy Ray Cyrus, Vince Gill, Kenny Loggins, LeAnn Rimes, Celine Dion, Julio Iglesias, Berry Manilow, Daughtry, Vertical Horizon, Lifehouse, Dave Koz, Jennifer Nettles, Ringo Starr, and many others. His memoir, Stories to Tell, is available July 6 from Simon & Shuster.

Together with American Songwriter, we had the pleasure of interviewing Abigail Ory over Zoom video! Abigail Ory is a Boston-based singer-songwriter making music her way. Weaving the eeriness of her small-town New England upbringing with her present-day perceptions, Ory’s music is familiar and innovative, binding the past with the present. Growing up, Ory was first exposed to music by her mother, a choreographer and amateur folk musician but it wasn’t until she heard “Appetite For Destruction” by Guns N’ Roses that she felt grabbed by music in a way she had never experienced before. After forming a childhood cabaret punk band at just 13 years old, Ory found her niche in songwriting. Self-described as “weird-pop”, Ory has curated a unique sound all of her own. “When I’m making music, I try to be as truthful with the material as I can be, and while my music still has a pop structure, it continues to feel and sound like nothing I’ve heard before”, she explains. Ory largely draws her influence from a number of areas including the honest and open lyricism of early MARINA to the sharp musicality of the Violent Femmes. Like much of her music, her newest single “Waves” was originally written years ago and re-visited with Ory’s mentor and esteemed songwriter, Donna Lewis. The song speaks of the temporality of interpersonal relationships and the acceptance of change & loss, and was originally composed for a dance production inspired by the book “Invention of Morel” by Adolfo Bioy Casares. Abigail Ory’s debut EP will be released later this year.We want to hear from you! Donna Lewis on the Rick Z Show. Think you know Donna Lewis? Think again. Penning nearly half a dozen diverse albums and side projects. This angelic voiced singer influenced the likes of Taylor Swift though she was born in Cartiff, Wales. It's the most adorable song of the 1990's on this week's episode! Bob your head and feel the warm hug that is "I Love You Always Forever," a song that is somehow amazing even though its title feels like it was made up by a random song generator that translates from English to Korean and back. In this episode: - We award this song the 1st ever (and highly prestigious) Cal Naughton Jr Memorial Bridesmaid Award. - We play “Name that Female One-Hit Wonder” and you can scream at Rob from your home or car as he struggles to think of Shawn Colvin! -How old was Donna Lewis when this song came out? Sal and Bob play it close to home and do the show from Andiamo in Livonia, Michigan. The One Hit Wonder is Donna Lewis's “I Love You, Always Forever.” Somehow local newscasters Diana Lewis and the crazy Bill Bonds become part of the discussion, as does Rocky. Sal and Bob talk about having corporate jobs and balancing that with a comedy career, and the conversation segues into one of our favorite comedians and friends, Gary Gulman. The guys talk about Gary's Twitter campaign to give a bit of comedy advice every day for 365 days. Sal brings up some of the difficulties in juggling another career with comedy. Both guys agree with Gary's advice to judge your jokes by the reaction of an ideal crowd. Sal says performing with a comedian like Gary makes you want to bring your A Game. The guys talk about the World Cup and Bob brings up ways to spice up the game, and both laugh at their friend Steve Lind's awesome soccer joke. The Whine List is Bob's complaint about idiots blowing off fireworks after the 4th. Bob also bitches about people who freak out about their dogs on the 4th. Sal talks about the Andiamo Showroom and Bob relates a story about meeting Don Rickles and asking Rickles to call him a hockey puck. Both guys talk about the recent California earthquakes, wish everyone well, and talk about the science of earthquakes, like they have any idea what the hell they're talking about. Sal brings up the latest Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga news. Both guys yap about yet another losing night at the casino, but Sal goes nuts for the Locket Link slot machine. They follow that up with a discussion of a complicated pain in the ass blackjack game they've only seen in Toledo, and wind it up dispensing blackjack advice.

It's precisely 3:14 AM and I can't sleep. So, I thought I'd go ahead and drop this massive bomb on everyone as a little TGIF early morning gift when you wake up. The Summer Circuit Edition pt.2 picks right up where we left off with sizzling tribal beats for those hot sticky nights. Things kick-off with Offer Nissim's dark and divalicious We Can Make It and then just steam rolls through the rest of the set. While not a huge radio hit, I Ain't Your Mama (Jennifer Lopez) has hit all the right notes with us gay folk and Danny Verde gets serious in his remix of the song. As you would expect, he uses deep and progressive beats while keeping the lively attitude of the lyrics intact. Score! Betty Who returns with an unexpected remake of I Love You Always Forever originally sung by one-hit wonder Donna Lewis. This is one of those songs I'd prefer to not remember from the 90's but it works surprisingly well. Even more so on the laid-back version coming up on the next installment of Summer Chill. Give it a few spins and you'll be singing along like a happy little love bird. It's Britney, BITCH! and she's back with a new single and new album in the works. Of course, leave it to Barry Harris to snatch that puppy up and work the shit out of it. Brazil's HenriqMoraes whips out a bootleg for Jason Derulo's Want To Want Me even after the label kinda didn't support it that much. We never got the full 7th Heaven version of this catchy pop tune but Henriq stays true his style, while maintaining the fun "pop" of the original. If his name is familiar from another recent post, it's because he also re-worked Madonna's Like a Virgin, which landed on her most recent Diva Hall of Fame set. This guy has a good ear and knows his shit and should be someone you should follow. I'm fairly certain he's got some tricks up his sleeves and will surprise us in the coming year. Not another all-girl group! Well, yes and frankly I'm really digging these chicks. Fourever1 are quadruplets picked up by Randy Jackson's label. I dropped an EDM version of All About Tonight on Summer Slammers pt. 2 and am now sending up Ranny's fantastic version. He stays in the framework of the original but gives it some super-juice by banging those beats pretty hard. Cheap Thrills by Sia should have made an appearance back in Spring but I forgot to include it. Then again on Gay Days and I forgot again. Then again on Summer Circuit Edition pt.1 and for some fucked up reason I forgot again. The good news is that the song has been one of those creeping up the pop charts making it one of the biggest summer hits for 2016. Relevance is key in this instance (even if I do pride myself on picking the hits before they actually are one). You know what, it's finally made it on to a mix; get over it (that 's me talking to my evil snarky twin). As long as he doesn't get political or even open his mouth, I've become a solid Bieber fan. Hey, I admit it. I like his music. Cold Water with Major Lazer is catchy and a great piece of work. I don't care who he fucks or the bro wars because I don't follow all that nonsense. If you write and sing catchy songs and display a semblance of maturity, then I'm on your side. He's definitely being well-served by taking advice from Usher in going from scrawny to hotty. I always new the transformation would come and welcome it since he looks great! Barry handled the song by making two versions. One hot and the other cold. I prefer the cold. I think he's unsure about the slowdown tempo change in the song before picking up again. I'll just say that he's the master at handling these songs that change tempo and it comes across effortlessly. Another score for Barry. Houston's Dirty Disco return with a HUGE winner in Fabulous by none other than Jeanie Tracy. I'd say this is the best use of her voice in some time and the sister just works it (2 snaps and a twirl). Ranny pops back in with his version of Adele's MOR adult-oriented slog Send ...

Score! I had the honor of DJ'ing and coordinating music online for Out Magazine's 20th anniversary celebration, which took place on October 9th, 2012 at the W Hotel in Hollywood and the experience was an absolute blast. For anyone who wasn't able to attend, I am posting my live set right here on podomatic. This first half, which took place before the night's speeches, covers the music that defined our LGBT lives from Out's inaugural year, 1992, all the way through 2001. This was a great era for music and I had a blast listening back at the music from these years. This playlist isn't completely chronological, but I think it does a great job of generally capturing the sound of that 10-year period. For more, check out my musical picks from each year on Out Magazine's special 20th anniversary section, HERE: http://www.out.com/out-exclusives/out-20 The playlist, below: "Moving On Up" (Rui Tome 2012 Private Mix), M People"Ain't No Need To Hide" (Deep Dish Mix), Sandy B"Where Love Lives" (12" Classic Mix), Alison Limerick"The Lover That You Are" (Classic Club Mix), Pulse feat. In this episode we explore magick and creativity as we speak with the mysterious electronic music composer Alka who was kind of enough to come on the show and share his music with us which is featured throughout the episode. In A Corner in the Occult we learn about famous, mystic, poet, artist, and engraver William Blake. Highly influential to artists and occultists, Blake has been a focus for scholars since his death as he continues to fascinate and inspire new generations. We learn about the phrase, “So Mote It Be” in the Essence of Magick. Have you ever considered the phrase itself and what exactly it implies as a practitioner of magick? Find out in this episode! Also during the show, I read listener email, we hear a great track by Donna Lewis and to close we revisit the ideas of Free Will, Magick, and Deity. Do you have free will in regards to your personal religious theology? If so, what does this mean in how you view deity? Find out this and more in this electronic episode! In this episode of the Casey Stratton Podcast I discuss the current state of the Health Care reform efforts in the US congress before taking 2 questions. I go on to explain some basic music theory, as promised on Facebook. The live performance is Sinead O'Connor's The Last Day of Our Acquaintance. Music recommendation is the Donna Lewis album Now in a Minute. This Welsh singer has a bright, breathy voice highlighted by a heart-tugging Celtic lilt. Her atmospheric, piano-driven pop sound, produced by Kevin (U2) Killen, is like a hybrid of the Corrs and Cranberries on the memorable lead single "I Love You Always Forever" (inspired by an H.E. Bates novel). The slightly edgier "Without Love" and the shimmering "Nothing Ever Changes" are other highlights. --Jeff BatemanVisit my DIGITAL MUSIC STORE and support my workBuy Donna Lewis' Now in a Minute on iTunesBuy Donna Lewis' Now in a Minute on AmazonEmail me a question at podcasts@caseystratton.comListen to Podcast #48
Direct V-Day Show DownloadOkay, maybe it's not completely lovey-dovey, but upon examination of the songs I've predominantly used in this episode, some might think it's close... I'm a sap, n' it shows. ;)I tried over and over and over again to make the music I wanted to use in this episode line up to create a storytelling ep. of sorts, but nothing ever quiiite worked out- so I just used a refinement of my first list; where the items have been lined up the way they are because they just sound good that way. :) One could say that they're now in little thematic groupings of things like "love lost," "love gained" and "love sought," but the only two pieces w/real placement meaning are those placed at the very end. ("Where Beauty Moves" and "Breakable.")Upon final examination (and the nagging feeling that I was missing something- which inspired this realization) I kind of wish I'd put "Where Beauty Moves" before "Strict Machine" (as the feelings of the song would go better together, it'd be a better transition from "Beauty" to "Machine," and it wouldn't be such a jarring change from "Sadeness" to "Beauty.."), but at this point the work is done, and I'm not up for re-doing the whole end of the show again, like I've already done once. ;) (It's a LOT of work! :)) Perhaps you'll decide to buy these tunes online or in your local area somewhere, and you can make your own fantabulous playlist. :):)Big props go out to ArielPublicity for access to so many songs for this episode, and as always to IodaPromonet n' the PMN!I hope this show inspires you and makes your heart grow fonder, and that you dig all the tunes herein. :)♥♥♥DJ Selchie, Your Siren of Song ;)Track List1. Amy Speace - Two (So romantic!!)2. The Shanghai Restoration Project -Miss Shanghai Revealed (SOO sweet!!)3. Tori Lewis feat. Talent - Where I Wanna Be (How you should feel when you're in love. :))4. The Latin Soul Syndicate - El Gitano del Amor (You GOTTA have some Latin music on a show about love n' passion!!!)5. Donna Lewis - Shout (How so many of us feel when we're in love.. :))6. Peter Bradley Adams - Under My Skin (SUCH a beautifully intense, romantic song!! -Almost sounds like Allison Krause in the background.. no?)7. The Silentreatment - Sweet Ending (A yearning heart hoping for what we all hope for... :))8. Deirdre Flint - I'm Single (How some of us feel during this holiday. ;))9. Enigma - The Principles of Lust (The Everlasting Lust Remix) ('Cause love is more than just candy hearts and sonnets. -Ah yes- and show correction, they're German. :))10. Lothlorien - Willie and Mary (Love is often crossed with hardship. We can only nurture hope & follow our hearts.)11. Andy Davis - Earth and Venus (Sometimes we don't know how to handle love when we find it...) 12. Goldfrapp - Strict Machine (Love is not always the same for everyone... ;))13. Enigma - Sadeness Part 1 (The US Violent Remix) (Love can be painful- & some folks like it that way. ;))14. The New World Renaissance Band - Where Beauty Moves & Wit Delights (One of the loveliest male voices I've ever heard sings of how love doesn't always turn out the way we wish it would...)15. Ingrid Michaelson - Breakable (Both love and Life are two supremely precious commodities.)Background Music: Enigma - Sadeness Part 1 (The US Violent Remix)Overall message: We need to be careful with each other. Love is a treasure and so are the hearts and lives of the people around us in our lives. We should treat them accordingly. :) Lastly; I know that the quality of my microphone is still drek, but I hope that the quality of my music more than makes up for that. :):) Also, I hope that this Valentine's Day you find love in your life- no matter what form it takes. And that if you don't, you might at least find some cheer w/the music in this show, and that you keep your heart and hope open for love soon to come. :):)♥♥♥-DJS

He was magnificently brilliant, kindhearted, sweet and strong- in mind and spirit, if not so much in body. Jeff, thank you for the time and love you gave me. I hope you're happy wherever you are, and that if you can hear me or know my heart right now, that you realize how much of an impact you made in my life, and how much of an impression you made in the lives of so many, many others.Love You,NaeP.S.-This episode is also dedicated to all of those who might be dealing with the loss of of a loved-one; as well as to the memories of those whom we've lost through years. Bing Crosby - Count Your Blessings (Again, because we should. :) It makes everything seem brighter.. even the toughest moments. ^_^)...Here are some of the blessings featured in this Ep: Background Music:Denean - Passage to the Earth MotherAsterisks (*) indicate songs which were allowed to be played for Eclectica explicitly by the artist.Very, very special thanks & deepest gratitude go out to each of the artists who personally donated their wonderful music to the making of this particular episode. Also, kudos (as always) to the Podcast Music Network & Ioda Promo Net; for helping to make this episode possible. My grattitude also goes out to the Internet Music Archives, where I found the piece by Mr. Crosby. I especially wanted to put that song on this show, and I'm incredibly grateful to have been able to do so w/your help.Without these sources and the gracious allowance of the artists who gave permission for their music to be played here on Eclectica, I wouldn't have any music available to share w/anyone. So thank you, all. :):)Yours in Gratitude,DJ Selchie
