Maxim has written numerous rock biographies and paranormal-themes books, including: —The Lost Tribes of Bigfoot, published by Hangar 1, with the innovative Immersive Book Technology (IBT), documents an extensive timeline of Big Foot sightings over the years, offering a glimpse into the cultural and historical contexts in which these sightings have occurred. —Sheppton: The Myth, Miracle, and Music was featured on Australia's Mysterious Universe and on numerous podcasts. —The Death Proclamation of Generation X: A Self-Fulfilling Prophesy of Goth, Grunge, and Heroin has been used at Penn State University as “recommended reading” for “Introduction to Abnormal Psychology” and “Health Psychology.” —Flying Saucer Esoteric: The Altered States of Ufology explores the chronology of “flying saucers,” tracing historical accounts of theologians and astronomers who lived in the days Before Christ to the 2023 Congressional hearings and the Mexican alien corpses. —Coal Region Hoodoo: Paranormal Tales from Inside the Pit has been described as “A fascinating look into Pennsylvania's paranormal wormhole through a never-seen-before sociological and popular culture lens.” He is a respected contributor to Fate Magazine, and Paranormal Underground, showcasing his expertise and knowledge in the field. He will be the guest speaker at the 2025 Butler (PA) Paranormal Conference and the ECBRO Virginia Bigfoot Expo. About the Book: With Coal Region Hoodoo, Maxim W. Furek continues his exploration of high strangeness inside the Pennsylvania wormhole that gave birth to The Night of the Living Dead, The Blob, and The Philadelphia Experiment. His journey takes us beyond the netherworlds of Centralia, Sheppton, Chestnut Ridge, and The Pennhurst Asylum. It looks into the eyes of demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren and the twisted souls of serial killer Gary Heidnik and con artist Richard Sharpe Shaver while exploring the preternatural secrets of Bigfoot, cryptids, Kecksburg, The Smurl Haunting, Pennsylvania Dutch Powwowing, and Roman Catholic Mysticism. Miners claim that being trapped in the bottom of a coal mine is as close as one can ever get to being in Hell. Coal Region Hoodoo takes us even closer inside that forbidden, paranormal pit. "Strange Kind Of Paradise" Formed in Leeds at the dawn of the '80s, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry were weaned on the MC5 and Wire, but their brooding melodies and dark and churning instrumentation got them lumped in with the Goth scene. Their 1985 debut Talk About The Weather went to #3 on the NME indie chart and to this day remains an undisputed classic. With John Peel a huge fan and their own fans affectionately referring to them as the Lorries, they quickly followed that up with fabulous albums like Paint Your Wagon, Nothing Wrong, Blow and Blasting Off. Ironically, 1992's Blasting Off sounded like a band taking flight, but at that point they were a band breaking up. Well, not really breaking up, but heading into a deep hiatus. The band's braintrust Chris Reed surfaced in 2004 with a few new tracks and the Lorries did tour that year and into 2005. But aside from the Thunder In A Black Cave live DVD and Reed's acoustic record Minimal Animal, the Lorries were silent for more than twenty more years. Until now. Long considered to be a holy grail of sorts for Lorries fans, Strange Kind Of Paradise is the band's sixth and final album. Brewing for two decades, the band completed work on the album and it'll be the last word for the Lorries. A wicked blast of angular beauty, dark melodicism and grinding intensity, Strange Kind Of Paradise is a brilliant final chapter that ends with an artful and deeply satisfying crescendo. I hope you'll feel the same way about this chat--it's a good one. https://www.red-lorry-yellow-lorry.com https://redlorryyellowlorry.bandcamp.com/album/strange-kind-of-paradise www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.bombshellradio.com www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Stereo Embers The Podcast BLUESKY + IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

You've probably heard about Caitlin Clark, but what about Caitlin 'Dark'? With an emo/goth aesthetic, Caitlin Cunningham is not your garden variety basketballer. Sporting a full face of make-up, sharpened fangs, a myriad of tattoos and jet black punk haircut, Cunningham stands out on court. Caitlin has gone viral and she's trying to use her new platform to have us think about self-expression in sport. Featured: Amanda Shalala, senior reporter, ABC Sport. This episode originally broadcast on May 29, 2025. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2025/05/binary-system-podcast-459-love-death-and-robots-and-star-trek-lower-decks/This week we watched three whole episodes of the new season of Love, Death + Robots (yes we want pats on the head for that thank you) and while there's a lot to discuss regarding Robert Valley's amazing animation, a possible origin story for "Three Robots", and voice actors we've gotten to interview, what we really want to talk about is how messed up the imdb episode ratings are this season. (A 5.7 for "400 Boys"? A 4.1 for "Can't Stop"? Oh come on that's way too low. We know everybody's taste is different but that's gotta be trolls hate-reviewing the episodes, right?)After that Kathryn recaps episodes 2 and 3 of Star Trek: Lower Decks, so we can talk about how adorable Tendi and Rutherford are, how Mariner is determined to earn a demotion, and how great the creators are at coming up with some surprisingly terrifying monsters. ("Moopsy!")There's also the usual tangents into Bigger Than Worlds engineering, comic books based on animated characters, and the final volume of Adam Warren's Empowered series. This week's outro is a clip from Afterlife by Beat Mekanik.Correction: the cat's name in "The Other Large Thing" is "Dingleberry Jones." Come on, we were close.Correction: Kathryn is correct, Golgotha is pronounced GOWL guh thuh. Elizabeth's pronunciation (gol GOTH uh) is because she read it in a book and made assumptions.Correction: Elizabeth was both right and wrong: Bubblegum Crisis and Bubblegum Crash were the names of the anime series, Adam Warren's graphic novel was Bubblegum Crisis: Grand Mal.Looking for a present for that hard-to-shop-for person? Go follow my IG @thiswasthescene Gob is a Canadian punk rock band formed in 1993 in Langley, British Columbia, known for their high-energy sound and catchy melodies. They gained mainstream success in the early 2000s with hits like “I Hear You Calling” and “Give Up the Grudge,” blending skate-punk vibes with alternative rock appeal. Gob's relentless touring and fun-loving attitude earned them a loyal fanbase and a lasting spot in Canada's punk legacy. There's a part at the end where I'm trying to think of the band Sunny Day Real Estate did a split with and it's Circa Survive which I should have known since I love me some Circa.= Weezer's bass player's wife His first band By A Thread Bigwig Texas is the Reason Going from Goth to Punk The Singer playing in Sum 41 NHL 2002 Recording with Mark Trombino Playing the final SUM 41 shows Sunny Day Real Estate And a ton more Click here for my patreon Click here to donate
There's a meme I've seen a few times. It says “You never know how toxic something is until you breathe fresher air.” I think it's about how easy it is to get so completely wrapped up in a relationship, or a group dynamic, or a way of thinking that you stop seeing it for what it is. You become less and less tuned in to what's normal. This happens a lot when you get two close friends together—two people who might not be likely to do any damage if left to themselves, but who become like fire and gunpowder together. Pushing each other further and further, with neither one willing to flinch. This can get even scarier when the two friends in question are teenagers with huge egos and a fascination with all things dark and edgy.Join Katie and Whitney, plus the hosts of Last Podcast on the Left, Sinisterhood, and Scared to Death, on the very first CRIMEWAVE true crime cruise! How did the Huns, Goths, and Vandals help bring down the Roman Empire - and sack the city of Rome itself, not once but twice? In this second episode of our special series on the Fall of the Western Roman Empire, Tristan Hughes is joined by Professor Peter Heather to explore the dramatic wave of invasions that shook Rome in the late 4th and early 5th centuries. From the arrival of the Huns to the sacks of Rome by the Goths in 410 and the Vandals in 455, we trace how the advance of innumerable barbarian tribes brewed decades of tension, betrayal, and bloodshed which helped bring the empire to its knees.MORE:Fall of the Western Roman Empire:https://open.spotify.com/episode/2fKMe2jrV1oZKzRSws83w4The Goths:https://open.spotify.com/episode/5PbZnN3xtQbLkcn2dPZPy2Presented by Tristan Hughes.
