It is mandatory that we know how greatly we are blessed by God. Especially those of us who live in the United States must realize how much we have been blessed. And we must be thankful. When Christ healed ten lepers, only one returned to give him thanks. You must be that one. Speaker: Ray … Continue reading Count Your Blessings – Luke 17:11-19
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Friday morning, the 19th of December, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Psalms 105:2: ”Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;Talk of all His wondrous works!” Then we go straight to 1 Thessalonians 5:18: ”In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God…” I read a beautiful little reading this morning by the famous hymn writer, Francis Ridley Havergal, and this is what she says. She says, ”We talk about the telescope of faith but I think we want even more the microscope of watchful and grateful love.” She says, ”Apply this to the little bits of our daily lives, in the light of the Spirit and how wonderfully they will come out.” Yes, we want to look through the telescope of faith and see all the big things in life, but she says maybe we need to get that microscope out and thank God for all the little things He has done for us.You say, ”What little things?” Well, maybe you passed your exams. “Yes, but I didn't get a hundred percent, Angus!” No, but you passed your exams and surely that's worth praising God for, and that farmer, ”No, I didn't really get a bumper crop this year.” But maybe you are able to pay your costs and that's worth thanking God for. Counting your blessings and naming them one by one, and then all of a sudden, things won't look so hopeless, will they?Do you remember that little song, it's a hymn, that goes something like this;Count your blessings, name them one by oneCount your blessings, see what God has doneCount your blessings, name them one by oneCount your many blessings, see what God has doneIsn't that wonderful? Today, count those blessings! Thank the Lord that you woke up this morning and you can see a brand new day, and who knows? This may be the day that the Lord will come and take us home to be with Him in paradise forever, but until then, count your blessings!Jesus bless you and goodbye.
I've been holding this one close. There's something I lean on every single day — in the good, the hard, the messy, the incredible. It's the thing that steadies me, fuels me, and reminds me who I am! But I will say this: everything that's ever happened in my life — every win, every lesson, every detour — helped shape me. I give thanks for all of it. It's part of my journey, part of my becoming. One of my favorite habits? Starting and ending every day with the song Count Your Blessings.. It shifts me. It puts me exactly where I need to be. And before I talk to anyone, I bless them, I pray over them, I send them love — because that's how I move through this world.Because the world needs you. I'm grateful for everything — and I want you to be too!
In this stirring and deeply encouraging Advent message, Pastor Karl continues the series The King Has Come with a raw and life-giving exploration of the second great gift Jesus brings: peace.Turning to the familiar yet profound scene in Luke 2:8–20, Pastor Karl invites us into the midnight terror of ordinary shepherds—suddenly confronted by the blinding glory of God—and shows how the very first words from heaven that night were not “Merry Christmas,” but “Fear not.” That first Christmas did not begin with sentimental calm; it began with paralyzing, mega-fear. And right there, in the middle of stacked-on-stacked fear, the angel announced good news of great joy: a Savior has been born who is Christ the Lord, the Prince of Peace. With pastoral tenderness and unflinching honesty, Pastor Karl unmasks fear as the mortal enemy of peace—how it magnifies threats, shrinks our view of God, and paints our future in colors darker than God ever intended. Yet the gospel is stronger: peace is not the absence of trouble but the presence of a Person. Peace is not something Jesus gives; peace is who Jesus is—and He gives Himself.Through the shepherds' journey from terror to testimony, we're given clear, scriptural paths out of fear and into the unshakable peace of Christ: speaking God's truth over fear's lies, refusing to agree with the spirit of fear, drawing near to Jesus through spiritual disciplines, and taking bold steps of obedience that move us against comfort and toward surrender. This is a word for everyone whose heart has been ruled by anxiety, worst-case scenarios, or the quiet fears that steal joy—especially in this season. A tender yet urgent call to stop trusting the unknown future to our own control and start trusting it to the known God who entered our fear as a baby in a manger.Because the King has come, fear does not get the final word. Peace does. And when the Prince of Peace takes over a life, what spills out is no longer fear—but praise, testimony, and unshakable confidence in the goodness of God.Essential listening for anyone who longs to trade fear for the peace that passes all understanding this Christmas.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 9:00am & 10:30am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

When I was a little girl, I loved the old hymn “Count Your Blessings.” The song encourages those who are “tempest-tossed” and “thinking all is lost” to “count your blessings, name them one by one.” Years later when my husband, Alan, was discouraged, he would often ask me to sing that simple song to him. Then I would help him to enumerate his blessings. Doing so took Alan’s focus off his struggles and self-doubt and centered his thoughts on God and his reasons for thankfulness. The book of Ezra describes God’s people facing overwhelming challenges through focusing on God’s power and provision. After they’d endured decades of captivity in Babylon, King Cyrus allowed the Jewish exiles to return to Israel to rebuild the temple (Ezra 1-2). Only a fraction returned (2:64). Despite their “fear of the peoples around them” and the great task before them, they rebuilt the altar and laid the temple’s foundation (3:3, 10). Then “with praise and thanksgiving they sang to the Lord: ‘He is good; his love toward Israel endures forever.’ And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the Lord” (3:11). If you’re discouraged or facing seemingly insurmountable obstacles, turn your thoughts toward God. “Count your blessings . . . and it will surprise you what the Lord has done,” and continues to do, for those who love Him.

Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #636 is a unique and compelling hour of visionary acoustic improvised music played by The Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, Native flute, double flute, dulcimer, mandolin, harmonica, kalimba, acoustic guitar and ukulele, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on congas and Native drum. We are joined today by special guests David Morningstar on background vocals and acoustic guitar and on the last track Eve Cristoph on backing vocals. Recorded live at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts in early September of 2025, today's show begins with the pretty, ancient-sounding “Dive Deep To Reach Your Soul's True Longing”, a skipping forest song with dancing dulcimer and mystical Native flute passages from Mariam and “Count Your Blessings, Keep Shining Bright” is a driving, blustery rock song with imaginative piano and an inspiring lyric from Mariam over Craig's driving congas. The Track enters an extended coda with Mariam playing her mysterious double flute, a unique instrument that creates audible overtones in a miasma of harmony. “All Life Is Sacred” is another acoustic rock number with a distant Andean flare and an affecting vocal from Mariam and “Living On The Holy Ground” is a bright, skipping, sunny folk song driven by Maram's chiming mandolin and evocative, distant droning vocals from Daniel over gospel piano and steady congas from Craig. “Breath Together” has a suspended blues flavor and begins with a conversation between Mariam's harmonica and her inspired poetry as it blooms into a powerful, spacious gospel song before segueing into a second movement, “Open The Windows To Receive”, a sparse but sophisticated tone poem set to the heartbeat thump of Craig's Native drum and bittersweet, iconic piano. For the final section “Keep On Dreaming We Can Change The World” with Daniel joining Mariam for the anthemic chorus. Eve Cristoph joins Mariam on vocals for today's beautiful closer, the ocean anthem “Yemanja” a mystical mermaid goddess song featuring exemplary work from the whole ensemble. There are so many painful things going on in the world today. I hope everyone is safe. I also wanted to take time to share a piece of my story.

We're celebrating our 10th anniversary all year by digging in the vaults to re-present classic episodes with fresh commentary. Today, we're revisiting our 2019 conversation with Valerie Simpson of Ashford & Simpson. ABOUT VALERIE SIMPSONSix-time Grammy nominee Valerie Simpson is best known as one half of the songwriting, production and performing duo of Ashford and Simpson, which she formed with musical partner and eventual husband Nick Ashford after they met at a church in Harlem, New York, in the early 1960s. After early successes with Aretha Franklin's recording of “Cry Like a Baby” and Ray Charles' recordings of “Let's Go Get Stoned” and “I Don't Need No Doctor,” Nick and Valerie signed with Motown Records, first as songwriters, where their early successes included the hit singles “Ain't No Mountain High Enough” and “Your Precious Love,” recorded by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. They soon began both writing and producing for the duo, with hits such as “Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing,” “You're All I Need to Get By,” “Good Lovin' Ain't Easy to Come By,” and “What You Gave Me.” Additional writing and production credits at Motown came with hits by The Supremes, The Marvelettes, The Miracles, Gladys Knight, and Diana Ross, who found success with “Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand)” “Remember Me,” “Surrender,” and a remake of “Ain't No Mountain High Enough” that topped both the pop and R&B charts. In addition to writing #1 hits such as Quincy Jones's “Stuff Like That” and Chaka Khan's “I'm Every Woman” after their Motown period, Ashford and Simpson began releasing their own recordings as a duo, landing nearly 40 songs on the Billboard R&B singles chart. Their list of Top 10 hits as artists, includes “It Seems to Hang On,” “Found a Cure,” “Love Don't Make it Right,” “Street Corner,” “Outta the World,” “Count Your Blessings,” “I'll Be There For You,” and “Solid.” Ashford and Simpson were the recipients of the ASCAP Founder's Award, which is the highest honor bestowed by the organization. They were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, named among Rolling Stone Magazine's 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time, and provided the inspiration for the establishment of the Soul Train Ashford & Simpson Songwriter's Award. Following Nick's untimely death in 2011, Valerie has continued to write, record, and even appear on Broadway in the acclaimed musical Chicago.
It is always a joy to receive warm thoughts from readers. These special gifts can then be shared with the reading audience of this column. The column a reader once gave me entitled, "Count Your Blessings," received many comments, so it was very special this week to receive these additional thoughts on counting blessings from a special friend: "Count your garden by the flowers, never by the leaves that fall. Count your days by golden hours. Don't remember clouds at all. Count your nights by stars, not shadows. Count your years with smiles, not tears. Count your blessings not your troubles. Count your age by friends, not years."Abraham Lincoln once said, "My friends are my best treasure, the best part of life." I recently heard someone say, "You are more than a friend. You are a blessing." "Friends are like flowers in the garden of life. A friend is like a sunbeam that can always warm your day and bring you endless treasures as you travel on life's way." William Ellery Channing once stated, "True friends have no solitary joy or sorrow." In my collection of thoughts on friends and friendship, I found this thought by John Addison, "Friendship improves happiness and abates misery by doubling our joy and dividing our grief." Coleridge describes friendship as "a sheltering tree." Friendship and friends are truly gifts. The Gift of Friendship. Friendship is a priceless gift that cannot be bought or sold, but its value is far greater than a mountain made of gold. For gold is cold and lifeless. It can neither see nor hear, and in the time of trouble, it is powerless to cheer. It has no ears to listen, no heart to understand. It cannot bring you comfort or reach out a helping hand. So when you ask God for a gift, be thankful if he sends...not diamonds, pearls or riches, but the love of real, true friends." This episode of The Friday ReFresh is brought to you by www.benandtravis.com! I was sitting in my office this week listening to a song that echoes a similar sentiment to the old hymn “Count Your Blessings.” In this song by Seph Schlueter it says, “One, two, three, up to infinity. I'd run out of numbers, before I could thank you for everything. God, I'm still counting my blessings for all that you've done in my life. The more that I look into the details the more of Your goodness I'll find. Father, on this side of Heaven I know that I'll run out of time, But I will keep counting my blessings knowing I can't count that high.” As the song played I glanced around the room seeing glimpses of the blessings in my 26 years of ministry accumulated on my shelf.
