Brian Netzel started doing comedy in Buffalo back in 2014. He's spent this summer driving across the country, going from the Portland Comedy Festival in Maine to the North Carolina Comedy Festival and landing at the Savage Henry Comedy Festival in Eureka, Calif., where he'll be performing between Oct. 6 and Oct. 8. He's been living in his car and writing a book about his travels. The survival skills he's learned from the National Guard are certainly helping him. Brian will be heading back to Buffalo just in time for the fall and winter. Follow Brian Netzel: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/briannetzel/Website: https://thebriannetzel.com/Support the show
When 22 tons of weed washed up on Brazil's beaches one magical summer, that was bad news for the boat full of smugglers who'd vacuum sealed all of that contraband cannabis into tin cans, but it was also the start of one of the greatest summers in weed history. One minute cannabis was expensive, shwaggy, and hard to find in Brazil. The next it was suddenly free, dank, and everywhere. So naturally, it will be forever remembered as The Summer of the Cans! This episode was recorded live in Humboldt County, California as part of the Savage Henry Comedy Festival. Special thanks to everyone at Savage Henry, an incredible independent humor magazine and comedy club operating in the heart of America's most famous cannabis cultivation region. In 1976, a pair of Vietnam vets turned international weed smugglers loaded a twin-engine airplane with 6,000 pounds of primo sinsemilla bud known as Mota Magic. Unfortunately, the ill-fated smuggling run ended in disaster when the planeload of weed crashed into a remote frozen lake tucked away in Yosemite's rugged backcountry. But from that tragedy arose the greatest "gold rush" in cannabis history, as some of the world's top rock climbers, the DEA, forest rangers, and itinerant hippies all raced to pull as many bales of Mota Magic from the frozen lake as possible. Episode 236: Finding your crowd! In this episode, Dan and Josh are joined by Adam Bathe, a comic from the Phoenix, AZ scene. Adam has been performing one way or another since he was about 6 years old - doing everything from public speaking to Opera. Adam's bombing story is about knowing your audience and how polarizing jokes don't have to be divisive. In fact, if they're well written, they can be enjoyable from a number of different perspectives. Dan and Adam also dig into what to do when you're stuck with a failed joke, and how to use silence to regain momentum when you're performing. Plus more! Please rate and review. Adam Bathe Adam delights audiences with tales of the unexpected as he shares stories from his childhood and life as a professional party host. Born in Savannah, Georgia, Adam currently lives and works as a professional party host and event organizer in Phoenix, AZ when not on tour. Sharp wit, southern charm, and attention deficiency make for a flurry of recent recollections and real-life craziness seen through the eyes of a disenfranchised former Opera singer. In the middle of the night on December 9, 1976, a pair of Vietnam vets turned international weed smugglers stood on a makeshift runway in Baja, Mexico, watching as a work crew loaded up their twin-engine airplane with 6,000 pounds of primo sinsemilla bud. The unregistered flight’s illicit cargo was a locally-grown high-grade red-hair strain known as Mota Magic. Unfortunately, the ill-fated smuggling run ended in disaster when the planeload of weed crashed into a remote frozen lake tucked away in Yosemite's rugged backcountry. But from that tragedy arose the greatest "gold rush" in weed history, as some of the world's top rock climbers, the DEA, the forest rangers, and itinerant hippies all raced to pull as many bales of Mota Magic from the frozen lake as possible. Today's guest is David Samuel. I talked to David just a few days after the Savage Henry Comedy Festival. We talked about the Festival and much much more. He's 3 years in so he's in a cool place where his experience is really helping him pick and choose where is the best place to invest his time and energy. He's a really nice guy and I genuinely enjoyed our conversation. I really admire how comfortable David is with his current place in Comedy being three years in. He knows what he's capable of but more important he knows there will always be so much more work to be done to get to the next level or step per say. I really hope you enjoy the conversation!
Austin and I are back from Savage Henry Comedy Festival and boy do we have stuff to say about it. Honestly less than you'd think. We go over our favorite moments, what our shows were like, and then we talk for a real long time about decorating.
On episode 126 Paco is joined by comedian Jesse Hett to recap the 2019 Netflix documentary Westside vs The World. This documentary tells the history of the Westside Barbell Powerlifting Club and its founder Louie Simmons. The doc is narrated by Ron Perlman and focuses on Louie’s youth, his discovery of the Culver City Westside Barbell club, his journey into powerlifting and his accomplishments. Plus a lot of powerlifting drama. If you follow the sport you’ll be sure to recognize many of the club’s famous names and accomplishments. The doc follows Westside from its origins to its its domination through the 90s and early 2000s and to relative obscurity in the era of raw powerlifting. Our guest is comedian Jesse Hett. Jesse is a stand-up comedian based in Oakland, California. He has appeared on the front page of the Wall Street Journal doing comedy while wearing a virtual reality helmet. That sounds made up but it's true, you can look it up. He has performed in SF Sketchfest and the Savage Henry Comedy Festival; Rooster T. Feathers, the San Jose Improv, and the San Francisco and Sacramento Punch Lines. His style has been described as "observational absurdism" and one newspaper reviewer wrote that he "says very smart things in a very dumb way" which is kind of mean but print media is dying so Jesse Hett will have the last laugh.Follow Jesse on:Twitter: @JesseTheHettInstagram: @JesseTheHettFollow Sup Doc on:Twitter: @supdocpodcastInstagram: @supdocpodcastFacebook: @supdocpodcastsign up for our mailing listAnd you can show your support to Sup Doc by donating on Patreon.

I sit down with Nick Josten and Nik Taro to discuss what's going on over at Savage Henry Comedy Festival 2018! The Reno crew was out and about, making moves, and ruining dudes. We make awful jokes, sometimes at the expense of others, and then never do another podcast during the fest because I was lazy.
This episode, Saul get's a mullet at the Savage Henry Comedy Festival, and recaps the event; We discuss our Patreon more; Nick recaps his weekend of shows, and doing photos for Kyle Kinane, and Josh Blue. I spent the weekend in Arcata, CA at the Savage Henry Comedy Festival! My room was full of comedians including Austin Baca, Andrea B, Brooke Elizabeth, and Josh Barnes who didn't all end up on the mic, but may be referenced, hopefully negatively. We woke up hungover and decided to talk with Gabby Jesus and Tiffany Greysen about all sorts of mess before continuing the party. We ran into thegissilent himself, David Gborie, in the elevator and he came to drink car vodka and podcast with us and we discussed boy bands and big man love. Later Tiffany gives us an interesting theory that Brooke dubbed, The Greysen Theory. I wrap everything up in a fun recap with a smokey voice.
This episode was recorded live from the annual Savage Henry Comedy Festival on September 5, 2015 in Arcata, Caifornia. WHAT AN AMAZING FESTIVAL. Dave and Anna had so much fun. They talked to Humboldt and Savage Henry Magazine's own Christ Durant, as well their friend and hilarious SF-based comedian Kate Willett, and the one and only Billy Wayne Davis about pretty much every fear under the sun. Find a copy of Savage Henry Magazine NOW and get to next year's festival WHEN IT HAPPENS NEXT YEAR. Follow @SavageHenryMag, @KateWillett and @BillyWayneDavis on Twitter!
