My Mom Washed the Money” — Donna Adelson Directly Tied to Murder Plot The Donna Adelson trial has taken a dramatic turn — and the testimony laid out in court may be the most damning evidence yet against the Adelson family matriarch. For years, prosecutors have painted Donna as the controlling force behind the plot to murder Dan Markel, her former son-in-law. But now, through sworn testimony and financial records, the paper trail and personal involvement are finally in full view for the jury. Former girlfriend of Charlie Adelson, Katherine Magbanua, testified that every time she and Charlie discussed “the job” — hiring someone to kill Markel — Charlie would suddenly step away to call his mother, Donna, before returning to push her harder. She said this happened repeatedly. Donna wasn't a background character — she was being consulted in real time. Magbanua also revealed that Charlie told her the murder was meant to “relieve his family's suffering,” specifically pointing to his parents, Donna and Harvey Adelson. That testimony directly tied Donna's own emotions and pressure into the motive. Perhaps most shocking — Magbanua described receiving a damp, molding payout in cash. When she asked Charlie about it, he told her: “My mom washed the money.” This directly links Donna to handling the proceeds of the crime. And then came the forensic accounting. Expert witness Mary Hull testified that Katherine Magbanua was placed on the Adelson Institute payroll after the murder — and that every single one of the 44 paychecks she received was signed by Donna Adelson. The payments stopped abruptly after the infamous FBI “bump,” when undercover agents confronted Donna in 2016. This isn't speculation. This is testimony, records, and signatures — all pointing toward Donna Adelson's deep involvement in planning, paying for, and covering up the murder of Dan Markel. Was Donna Adelson the true mastermind behind the crime? Or was she just another player in a toxic, criminally enmeshed family? The jury will decide — but the evidence is stacking up against her. For centuries, one of the biggest causes of maternal death was puerperal fever or postpartum infection. Doctors proposed many theories and many remedies, but they were totally unprepared to accept the truth: doctors were spreading the infection themselves. And all they needed to do was some solid hand washing between each patient. In Japan, where Christians are a minority and “being gay” carries some different cultural meanings than it does in the US, Aogu Fujihashi offers to LGBTQ people the support and discipleship he would have wanted to receive as a teenager. This week, David and TJ talk with Aogu about Japanese Christianity, his journey toward a Side B understanding of faith and sexuality, his spiritual influences (from Augustine to Calvin to Piper and more), and his LGBTQ+ ministry in Tokyo. Also: Japanese bathhouse culture! We learned some things. We appreciate Aogu's deep care for the church in Japan, and his desire for open dialogue rather than hostility—wherever you find yourself on these questions, we hope you'll join us in listening and learning from each other.Note: This episode uses the terms “Side A” and “Side B” (and X, Y) as shorthand quite a bit. In conversations around Christian faith and sexuality, especially in the U.S., it can feel like everyone's expected to pick a “side.” But it's not the same—or at least the same lines being drawn—in other places. In this episode, we talked with Aogu Fujihashi and Kaz Okaya about their experiences in the Japanese Christian context, where the conversation around LGBTQ+ identity looks a bit different. We talk about how a culture of conformity impacts same-sex marriage ideas in Japan, how American evangelicals influence Japanese churches, and the quiet struggles many queer Christians face in some church communities. Presented at Curwensville Alliance on 6/22/25 by Pastor Steve Shields. Listen as Pastor Steve goes through the meaning of baptism based on Matthew 3:3-17. Biblically, baptism is a cleansing with water by immersion. Personally, baptism shows people your commitment to Christ. It shows God your commitment to Christ. It shows you that you are committed to Christ. It is a mile marker. Spiritually, baptism reminds you that you are clean. Washed by the blood of Christ and free from guilt and shame. It reminds you that you are new, dead to sin, and alive to God.

And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat. 37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, 38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. NASB 35 And yet wisdom is vindicated by all her children.” 36 Now one of the Pharisees was requesting Him to eat with him, and He entered the Pharisee's house and reclined at the table. 37 And there was a woman in the city who was a sinner; and when she learned that He was reclining at the table in the Pharisee's house, she brought an alabaster vial of perfume, 38 and standing behind Him at His feet, weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears, and she wiped them with the hair of her head, and began kissing His feet and anointing them with the perfume. Meditation on Scripture: If we are not careful or thoughtful we can end up with a misunderstanding of what this message teaches. First we must be careful not to mix up the stories of this occurring. There is another one that shows up later. Jesus corrects people regarding their misunderstanding of the action this woman performs. Jesus accepted her tribute from this woman for various reasons. Jesus calls out the hypocrisy of human judgment. There is certainly a value in this lesson but I think for the moment I would like to focus on the woman and her actions. The humility and love represented are so meaningful. Jesus will go on to compare the actions of this woman to His host but the reason he does so is the devotion this woman displays. There is a deep devotion she shows. So in this situation it can be helpful to consider ourselves in this role. Do we feel the kind of love and devotion that would inspire us to humble ourselves in front of others? Do we worry too much about what other people would think instead of truly lifting our eyes to glorify God? As you read about her act to glorify God you can really connect with how meaningful Jesus was to her. THis was not a passive act of regular gratitude. This was a profound and gut wrenching description of the value this woman placed on Jesus. So as we reflect on the disinterested perspective she took on her own pride we have something to reflect on. Are we willing to similarly pour out our love for God? How can we demonstrate his same kind of gratitude for the Lord? Put your heart and mind on the things that God calls to you as things to show Him gratitude. Meditation of Prayer: Pray as directed by the Spirit. Dedicate these moments to the patient waiting, when you feel ready ask God for understanding you desire from Him. Meditation of God and His Glory / Hesychasm: I invite you to sit in silence feeling patient for your own faults and trials. Summarize what insights you have gained during this meditation and meditate and visualize positive change in your life: This is a listener funded podcast at patreon.com/christianmeditationpodcast Final Question: If you consider the invitation and command to persevere in the faith, what change in your life does that bring to your mind? The Kansas City Chiefs got smacked in the Super Bowl, and now folks are saying the dynasty might be dead. Are they still the kings of the AFC—or has the crown already been snatched? The crew chops it up like it's a barbershop on a Sunday afternoon:
The LORD cares not only for Israel; He cares for all the nations. That's why He places His Word in the mouth of a little Israelite slave girl to her master Naaman that healing is available for his leprosy if he goes to the prophet of the true God. The king of Israel knows his own limitations, but Elisha knows the power of God's Word. Elisha therefore sends Naaman to wash seven times in the Jordan River with the LORD's promise that Naaman will be healed. Naaman's servants cut through their master's anger to point him to the greatness of God's Word, and by that great Word of God, Naaman receives full cleansing and health. Naaman's faith in the LORD contrasts with Gehazi's greed, and the leprosy of Naaman comes upon the unfaithful servant of Elisha. Rev. Brady Finnern, president of the Minnesota North District of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study 2 Kings 5:1-27. "A Kingdom Divided” is a series on Sharper Iron that goes through 1-2 Kings. The division in the kingdom of Israel in this part of history was greater than a matter of north and south. The biggest division was between the people and their God. Yet even as the people rebelled against the LORD as their King, still He remained faithful to call them back to Himself through His prophets, working through history to send the good and gracious King, Jesus Christ.
