Have you ever had a conversation with Jesus (God)? Ok, let me ask that again...Have you ever prayed a very meaningful prayer to God? If you answered "Yes," then you, indeed, have had a conversation with God. While continuing our "Faith & Action" series from the book of James, today Pastor Ben explains to us how important growing up in prayer is, and that prayer is never about asking God what He can do for you. Prayer is about giving thanks to God, and acknowledging that He is our wonderful, Heavenly creator. God is the One that gives each one of us the talents and gifts that we have. Without God, we could do nothing worthwhile. During our conversation with God, we open up our hearts completely to God, and pour it all out to Him. Doing this is the equivalent to opening up a wound and applying medicine to it. When we open up our hearts to God, God's healing begins to enter our souls and the work of the Lord begins within us. And just like in our worldly relationships with our loved ones, constant honest communication with God is the only way to have a healthy relationship with God. So how healthy is your relationship with God? Are you the type of person that is eager to "answer the phone" when Jesus calls or are you the type of person that checks your caller ID and only answers when you feel like it? *When should we pray? 1. When we are suffering or someone we know is going through a trial and tribulation. 2. When things are good, when someone is cheerful, when life is good. As we conclude our study of this letter, James gives us picture of how life should be in the local church. He underscores the culture of prayer and practical caring that should describe our congregation and he demonstrates that we ought to develop a climate of intimacy, transparency, and accountability. Join us as we explore this passage together!
Prayer is intended to be a dialogue, not a monologue. It is intended to be transformational, not transactional. When you speak to the Lord do you also listen for His response?

Prayer is the glue that holds our faith together and strengthens the tether between God’s heart and ours. Living a life apart from prayer is to live a life full of self-struggle, stress and confusion. James has laid out great tools for successful Christian living in this book however, they must be under-girded with prayer. Prayer fuels perseverance! Welcome to The Village Church. We are beautiful and broken people connected in Jesus, extending His love.
We learn from God's Word in James about how to pray in our life when we have times of troubles and trials. We are to have a patient persevering faith. We are to pray for one another, confess our sins to others, and help each other in our times of need.
James 5:13–20 (The Message) 13 Are you hurting? Pray. Do you feel great? Sing. 14 Are you sick? Call the church leaders together to pray and anoint you with oil in the name of the Master. 15 Believing-prayer will heal you, and Jesus will put you on your feet. And if you’ve sinned, you’ll be forgiven—healed inside and out. 16 Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed. The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with. 17 Elijah, for instance, human just like us, prayed hard that it wouldn’t rain, and it didn’t—not a drop for three and a half years. 18 Then he prayed that it would rain, and it did. The showers came and everything started growing again. 19 My dear friends, if you know people who have wandered off from God’s truth, don’t write them off. Go after them. Get them back 20 and you will have rescued precious lives from destruction and prevented an epidemic of wandering away from God.

Just as we need power to run our gadgets, we also need power to run our lives and God is an inexhaustible power, we just have to access it. Prayer is the tool that accesses God’s power! Sermon Notes @ http://bible.com/events/460039
Red Hill Baptist Church is located about 50 miles east of Charlotte, NC. Thanks so much for listening!
James has been teaching us that interacting with God is a huge piece of our faith journey. As he wraps up his letter he stresses that prayer factors into every major area of our life. So how do we do it? We all have to start somewhere. Pick a time. Pick a place. The disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray. Perhaps we should do the same?
How often do you really pray for yourself and others? Being aware of the privilege & power we have in prayer is a mark of Christian maturity and genuine faith.
The vision of The Heights Baptist is to impact our community and world for Christ. That is what we want to be and do together. In making this impact for Christ we must have a vision toward where we live and a vision for the world for that is what Jesus calls us to do.
This week we explore what it means to be a part of a community. As we read the end of James’ letter he provides ‘a how’ to guide applying the teaching and wisdom offered throughout the book.
What's your first response to any problem? In James 5:13-20, God commands us to come to Him and to our church family. This is challenging because our orientation is to take care of it ourselves. Be with us as we learn how God helps us in times of trouble.
