Coalesce frontman Sean Ingram dives deep into his latest musical project, the heavy new band out of Kansas City called Idle Heirs, and their debut album, 'Life Is Violence.'
Send us a textKansas City-based post-metal duo Idle Heirs, featuring Coalesce frontman Sean Ingram and producer/musician Josh Barber, have announced the release of their debut album, Life Is Violence, dropping April 11th, 2025. The album will be celebrated with a record release show the same evening at Warehouse on Broadway in Kansas City, MO, alongside metal heavyweights Norma Jean.Born from necessity and personal upheaval, Life Is Violence is a searing, emotionally charged collection of eight tracks written and recorded in complete creative isolation at Ocean Sound Studio in Norway. The collaboration between Ingram and Barber—longtime friends and kindred spirits—came to fruition after years of false starts, catalyzed by Barber's self-imposed writing retreat in the Pacific Northwest. Surrounded by storms and solitude, he created the sonic foundation for what would become Idle Heirs. The band recently appeared on The Vulgar Display of Podcast, part of The Barn Podcast Network, in which Ingram and Barber discussed their intense creative process, the album's introspective themes of grief, generational trauma, and paternal legacy, and why they originally never intended for these songs to be shared publicly.Singles like Dead Ringer and Pillow Talk give a glimpse into the band's dynamic range—melding haunting atmosphere, crushing weight, and a raw vocal performance that sees Ingram pushing into new territory far beyond his hardcore roots. With Life Is Violence, Idle Heirs offer more than an album—they deliver a moment of vulnerability and defiance, shaped by isolation, purpose, and love.Catch Idle Heirs live on April 11 at Warehouse on Broadway for their official album release show.www.BetterHelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and brought to you as always by The Barn Media Group. Keith sits down with Sean Ingram to discuss how the recent Coalesce reunion came to be, the new approach the band is taking with their 2024 shows, some insight into Sean's life as an independent business owner, how Sean prepared his voice for the upcoming shows and the live performance that inspired Sean to step back into music. Coalesce is an American metalcore band formed in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1994. They are considered pioneers of mathcore and were known for its aggressive style of music and reckless live shows. The band broke up in 2010 and has performed two reunion shows since then. You can catch them Friday October 4th at Furnace Fest. I got Sean on the Skype and this is what we chat about: Getting attacked by dogs Earth Crisis' aggressiveness Finding his voice Sean messing with their album artwork Functioning on Impatience Crews threatening his life Recording of 0:12 Revolution in Just Listening How they broke up Reuniting without Jess on guitar Singing for Dillinger Escape Plan Shot out to Ziggy for this question Reuniting in 2005 Playing Furnace Fest this year And a ton more Go check out the re-releases of their vinyl at https://www.relapse.com/ Lastly I started doing whiteboard animations so if your marketing department has said recently “Hey, we need a whiteboard animation” then email me at mike@drive80.com Feel free to support the podcast for as little as $1 a month through Patreon
From splits with The Get Up Kids to western-inspired instrumentals, Coalesce has never bothered to ask “Why?” but rather “Why the hell not?” That seems to be the mindset behind their appearance at this year's Furnace Fest, their first live performance in nearly 12 years. This week we are joined Coalesce frontman Sean Ingram to discuss the upcoming festival date as well as some future reissues through Relapse Records, his newest project Heirs, skateboarding, and more!
