Ashe in America welcomes back Jonathan Drake for a two part conversation, starting with a fun behind the scenes recap of their live jury trial experience at Deadwood, complete with an unforgettable "my son is innocent" courtroom moment and a preview of what is coming at the Great American Restoration Tour stop in Las Vegas. The two also swap notes on show intros, badlands community swords, and a bit of easy banter before shifting gears entirely. The second half digs into Lysander Spooner's writing on poverty, exploring his argument that scarcity is largely manufactured rather than natural, and that systemic roadblocks, not laziness, keep talented, hardworking people down. Ashe and Jonathan connect that thinking back to trial by jury and common law, making the case that the two ideas are more related than they first appear. Expect a mix of lighthearted recap and genuinely thought provoking philosophy by the end.

In their conversation, Mark and Ann talk about: How Ann got into writing in the first place (as a way to stop complaining about the way some stories ended and writing her own stories) The first experience submitting her writing and the value of not giving up Getting an agent about the time she was shopping around book five The first "Deadwood" book which combined western, horror, mystery, supernatural, and romance and how it went up the chains until marketing finally shot it down because they didn't think it would have a big enough audience The "stuff" that happened to Ann in the middle of this powerful author career How the 4 to 5 month process of writing a book has now gone to a 6 to 9 month process Finding the balance in her 50s Sammy the Skeleton, Ann's mascot companion who hangs out in her office with her Moving from Push Marketing to Pull Marketing Losing the person who loved to tell stories by becoming a "content creator" The two tools/platforms she uses for that pull-marketing (Patreon and YouTube) What Ann learned about storytelling from taking photographs How Ann re-reads the entire existing series before she starts to write the next one The way Ann co-authors books with her husband Advice Ann would offer to writers either trying to get into it or trying to get back into it And more... After the interview Mark reflects on three different things that Ann mentioned in their conversation. That naturally leads to a debate over who actually belongs on their personal Mount Rushmores—with Allen naming his four greatest Dallas Cowboys and Kellie attempting to narrow down the greatest movie stars of all time. Then comes Rantberry. WARNING: THIS INTERVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR DEADWOOD (and almost for JUSTIFIED, but we caught ourselves!)How do you know you've found your calling? For Jim Beaver, it happened the instant he stepped onto a stage, before even speaking his first line. Jim joins Weezy and Lisa to reflect on a career that's taken him from sitcoms to Supernatural to Shakespeare and Shakespearean Westerns to some of television's most beloved dramas with the most devoted fans.Jim looks back on his early work, including the network sitcom Thunder Alley with Ed Asner, before discussing the role that became a career-defining institution: Whitney Ellsworth on Deadwood. Fans of the show won't be surprised to learn that the cast knew they were creating something extraordinary. Jim recalls the emotional experience of learning his character's fate and filming Ellsworth's heart wrenching exit, which quickly led to another collaboration with David Milch on John from Cincinnati. The conversation turns to Supernatural, where Jim's portrayal of Bobby Singer became fertile fan favorite fodder. He explores how the show's strongest moments had less to do with monster hunting and more to do with characters and relationships. Do you remember an episode called “Weekend at Bobby's?” Jim shares the exhaustion of carrying the lead and the pride of starring in Jensen Ackles' directorial debut!  Why are two of Jim's most beloved characters, on Supernatural and on The Boys, named some version of Robert Singer? It's an inside joke by creator Eric Kripke, at the expense of his friend, Director Bob Singer.Jim also shares memorable experiences working alongside Timothy Olyphant on Justified, Bryan Cranston on Breaking Bad, and Jonathan Banks on Better Call Saul, and we delve into The Boys' metaphor which mirrors our current political landscape.Plus, IMDb Roulette is full of gems, from singing nuns to Third Rock From the Sun!Also, we are recommending The Prime series Sterling Point and our own Lisa Arch's appearance on the finale of Life, Larry and the Pursuit of UnhappinessPath Points of Interest:Jim Beaver on WikipediaJim Beaver on IMDBJim Beaver on FacebookJim Beaver on InstagramJim Beaver on BlueskyLife's That Way by Jim BeaverDeadwoodSupernaturalJustifiedThe BoysSterling PointLife, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness

Deadwood, South Dakota, was never supposed to exist. Built illegally on land guaranteed to the Lakota, the gold-rush town exploded into a lawless maze of saloons, brothels, gambling halls, violence, disease, and sudden death. Wild Bill Hickok was murdered at a poker table. Women trapped in the Badlands died violently. And more than a century later, visitors claim the people who built Deadwood are still there. Tonight, we explore the bloody history and enduring ghost stories of a town that seems determined to keep its dead exactly where they fell.   YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@HauntedAmericanHistory TikTok - @hah_podcast hauntedamericanhistory.com Patreon- https://www.patreon.com/hauntedamericanhistory HAH DISCORD - https://discord.com/invite/bJdbpH3hQm Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. South Dakota joined the Union on November 2, 1889, the same day as North Dakota. South Dakota is traditionally listed as the fortieth state, but no one knows which Dakota was admitted first. President Benjamin Harrison shuffled the two statehood documents before signing them so neither state could claim it had entered the Union ahead of the other. Native peoples lived, hunted, farmed, and traveled across the region long before European explorers arrived. The Arikara, Mandan, Crow, Cheyenne, Omaha, Ponca, Dakota, Nakota, Lakota, and other nations were connected to different parts of the land at various times. The history was far more complex than one tribe simply replacing another. The first written record of European explorers reaching present-day South Dakota comes from 1743. French explorers Francois and Louis-Joseph de La Verendrye buried a lead plate near present-day Fort Pierre and claimed the region for France. The land later passed to Spain, returned to France, and became part of the United States through the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Today, South Dakota is known for Mount Rushmore, the Black Hills, the historic town of Deadwood, and the prairie country described in several of Laura Ingalls Wilder's books. The state's forests, ravines, outlaw hideouts, mining towns, and Victorian buildings have also inspired plenty of strange stories. Here are some of South Dakota's best-known legends. This episode is brought to you by the 34th Annual Biketoberfest October 15 to 18 *  *  *  *  * The 2026 Harley-Davidson Deadwood is the newest cruiser in the Softail lineup, and it arrives with a familiar recipe. The Motor Company took the Heritage Classic, lowered the rear end, chopped the windshield, fitted a solo seat, and painted nearly everything Denim Black. The name comes from the Black Hills town with an outlaw history of its own and a strong connection to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Don Williams goes riding and discovers what the 2026 Harley-Davidson Deadwood is all about. *  *  *  *  * Speaking of rallies, here's one you absolutely cannot miss—yes, we're rapidly approaching the 34th Annual Biketoberfest Rally in Daytona Beach, sunny Florida. Biketoberfest this year runs October 15th through the 18th.  We take a few minutes to chat with Lori Campbell-Baker and Brian Bentley from the Daytona Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. Biketoberfest is all about the beautiful Florida weather, live music, the industry's top vendors, bike shows, and motorcycle racing at Daytona International Speedway. And don't forget, there are miles of spectacular rides along the famous A1A, the historic Main Street and the Ormond Beach Scenic Loop. There really is something for everyone here, and almost every event and attraction is free to attend. So, if you want a fun few days out in the Florida sunshine, Biketoberfest really is the place to be. Make sure you download the Biketoberfest mobile App from Apple or Google Play or visit www.biketoberfest.org for more details. *  *  *  *  * Keith Code founded the California Superbike School in 1980, and it has subsequently grown to be the largest motorcycle track training school in the world. Teejay Adams is an experienced rider, but has still found that she has hangups and limitations to her riding. So, she called Keith's son Dylan, who now runs the Superbike School with his wife Lara. Teejay went to the 2-day school at the Ridge racetrack in Washington state recently, and absolutely loved it. She tells us exactly what she found out and how it has helped her riding.    *  *  *  *  * Here's quick reminder to check out our monthly digital magazine. This week Jon dives into Section Three, unpacking why a hung jury should actually mean acquittal, how a 19th century Supreme Court case quietly rewired the presumption of innocence, and why calling Spooner an anarchist misses the point entirely. Expect a deep, sometimes cheeky exploration of natural law, the true purpose of government, and why collective authority can never exceed what individuals already possess. Stick around for some Gold Co and Tamarack Garden love, a Fourth of July inspired ad segment, and Jon's ongoing case for why voting in a rigged system is a moral and practical cliff dive.

Two days before America turns 250, CannCon opens the show watching the Portugal Croatia game go to a heart stopping VAR review, which promptly triggers a chat troll named Barry into a full patriotic meltdown. What follows is one of the most chaotic first hours in SITREP history. Barry accuses CannCon of un-Americanism for watching soccer, the guys extend olive branches three times, Barry brings up a girlfriend with colon cancer, and then the whole thing spirals into a poll on whether to forgive or deport him. The audience calls him a Patel Patriot sock account. It only gets weirder from there. Once the dust settles, the guys break down the North Lauderdale Walmart parking spot shooting and debate Florida self defense law, then move on to the Freedom250 fireworks show in DC that is trying to break the Guinness world record with over 810,000 fireworks. Alpha connects the math to the 30 tons of sodium nitrate that went missing off a train and floats a theory that Trump is signaling he has it. They close with a long, hilarious debate over the perfect July 4 playlist, Rage Against the Machine as founding father music, and CannCon's Deadwood blackjack tear.

Tune in to discover how this unconventional inner circle bypassed traditional bureaucracy to establish the foundation of the modern American presidency. Michael reveals how TR's bipartisan, multi-class network—featuring everyone from "Deadwood" sheriff Seth Bullock to a wolf-wrangling stuntman—became the driving force behind monumental conservation efforts and historical trust-busting. Jon Herold comes in Tuesday on a short show before heading to Deadwood and delivers two things worth staying for. First, a pointed and honest analysis of who is actually hyping the White House quantum computing posts as Q confirmation: Jon asked seven OG Anons who have no financial stake in being right, and all seven said it looks like a troll. The only people going all in are content creators trying to monetize. He asks why that is and lets the question sit. Then he plays the GART trailer, a mock news broadcast depicting a fictional future where Democrats flip the House in the midterms, Badlands Media gets indicted by a federal grand jury, and the community faces consequences for questioning elections. It is genuinely unsettling and clearly the setup for something bigger happening live in Deadwood this week. A federal judge also ordered Trump's SAVES voter verification database dismantled for violating federal privacy laws, Jon gives it a mixed read, and Rand Paul is subpoenaing Fauci again. No Daily Herold tomorrow. Whatever happens at GART, you will want a virtual ticket.

Part 2 of the Battle of the Sexes crossover brings together CannCon and Christy, Cam and Jackie, Ashe in America, and Alpha Warrior for another round of trivia chaos during a special GART Week edition. Stakes are high: the losers serve drinks at Live DPH and rename their show. Expect heated debates over car battery voltages (12 vs. 12.6, a saga), pearl light bulbs that nobody has ever heard of, David Beckham's exact position on the pitch, and the correct way to describe rustling silk (it's "frou," apparently, and nobody was happy about it). The girls dominate the scoreboard, the boys overanalyze everything, and the rules get rewritten approximately every four minutes. A White House Q drop cameo and a reveal of the new OnlyLands intro round out the show. This one goes down to the wire, and someone's definitely getting stuck carrying drinks in Deadwood.

CannCon and Ghost open the final show before GART week in Deadwood with a Tuesday packed with stories that connect in ways most people are not seeing. An AP investigation with a named whistleblower reveals the DEA knowingly allowed 74,000 fentanyl pills to flood New Mexico between 2023 and 2025 to catch bigger fish while running the "one pill can kill" public campaign at the same time. Bill Pulte walks into ODNI and CNN immediately runs a smear piece while Letitia James attacks his qualifications despite simultaneously backing Jay Clayton, who has identical gaps in intelligence experience. Ghost and CannCon apply the white hat versus black hat framework and explain why neither applies: incentive-based leverage is how this operation actually works. A federal judge blocks the SAVE database cross-referencing Social Security and citizenship data, and CannCon asks the only relevant question: who issues your Social Security number and who determines citizenship status? In geopolitics, Ghost delivers a layered breakdown of Colombia's contested election, tracing the Alex Saab connection to De La Espriella, the Smartmatic globalist pivot of 2014, and why Hispanic neocon Republicans are backing a Maduro ally while publicly opposing Maduro. A viral JD Vance Qatar slight gets debunked with the full video.

CannCon and Zak Paine open GART week with a Monday show full of political fireworks before Deadwood. Trump called it on Truth Social over the weekend and it happened: UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer resigns, becoming the seventh British leader in ten years. Zak connects Starmer's tenure to the Jimmy Savile prosecution he buried and the Pakistani rape gang cases he never brought. Colombia elects Trump-backed political outsider Abelardo de la Espriella in a razor-thin vote, and CannCon flags the remarkable connection: de la Espriella was the attorney for Alex Saab, the Maduro associate who briefed the Trump administration on Central American cartel corruption, making his election look like the Venezuela playbook in one more country. Chuck Schumer goes on MSNBC and inadvertently confirms 25 to 30 million people would come off the voter rolls under the SAVE America Act. Politico drops a hit piece on Ruben Gallego's PAC spending covering Disney trips, a St. Barts birthday, an au pair, and Super Bowl attendance with Eric Swalwell, and CannCon says something big is coming. Ilhan Omar's husband goes from a $30M net worth to negative $95,000 in one year. A federal judge clears the DOJ to hand Biden's audio tapes to the Heritage Foundation. And the Iran deal continues its on-again-off-again cycle as Trump threatens to take over the Strait of Hormuz entirely.

Jon Herold comes in Monday one day from Deadwood and GART, which means the show is lighter on prep and heavier on honesty. Reuters confirmed what Jon's source already told him: the White House has been sitting on the ODNI voting machine vulnerability report for months over concerns it could undermine voter confidence, and Jon asks the obvious question about what a limited hangout looks like if the report just says the machines need a software update. His source still says the election declass is on track for Wednesday. The White House and Department of War CTO both posted quantum computing content that the decoder community immediately lost its mind over, and Jon delivers a calm and mildly exasperated explanation of why a social media intern trolling is not a Q signal. Iran negotiations are in their now-familiar pattern: JD Vance says Iran agreed to UN nuclear inspectors and the US issued a 60-day oil waiver, Iran immediately denied making new commitments, and Jon sees both sides possibly contradicting each other on purpose to keep everyone confused. DHS is tying federal grants to election reforms including paper ballots and mandatory audits. The Biden audio tapes have been cleared for release. Keir Starmer resigned as UK prime minister. Colombia's president is claiming Israeli election software stole his election. Jon is not packed yet.

GART is less than two weeks out and Ashe has a dedicated laundry basket for Deadwood outfits because Brian wants her to think about the weight of her suitcase. The ladies kick things off recapping UFC at the White House, the dripping with corporate sponsorships narrative swap the left tried after the taxpayer dollars argument fell apart, fighters walking out of the Oval Office down the Hall Of Presidents and giving glory to God, and Ashe's bicentennial memories of 1976 making the case that this is what the run up to 250 should feel like. Adriana takes the floor for a forty minute college lecture on the Salem witch trials, including the wildly underappreciated detail that it started with an illness, the catch 22 of confess and walk or deny and hang, ergot fungus on rye as a likely LSD precursor poisoning, and how the whole thing reads exactly like a 1692 mass formation psychosis. Christy closes out with saved by the bell, which has both a fun safety coffin origin (Victorian anxiety did not believe in doing anything halfway) and a boring boxing origin, plus the small detail that no safety coffin ever saved anyone. Photo challenge submissions, GART golf cart plans, and a battle of the sexes event teaser for next week.

HuntFishTravel Podcast with CarrieZ, a Hunting, Fishing, Archery, Bowhunting Podcast. - Hunt Fish Travel and The Wild World o

Originally Published: March 9, 2016 Every once in a while, I come across an old episode that deserves another listen. Back in March of 2016, shortly after attending the Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers Cast & Blast in Deadwood, South Dakota, I sat down with world-record exhibition shooter Patrick Flanigan to talk turkey hunting, hunting property management, outdoor media, and the unforgettable adventures we shared in the Black Hills. That turkey hunt remains one of my favorite hunts to this day. The weather was unpredictable, the birds were stubborn, and while nobody tagged a turkey during our hunt, the memories made with Patrick and fellow outdoor writer Mike McGrew have lasted far longer than any harvest ever could. Listening back nearly ten years later, what struck me most was how relevant so much of this conversation still feels today. Patrick and I discussed authenticity in outdoor media, the growing influence of social media, hunting culture, mentorship, and the importance of staying true to yourself in an industry that was already beginning to change. I wanted to revisit this episode for a very special reason. On Wednesday, June 10, I'll be releasing Episode 260, where I sit down with Patrick again, almost ten years to the day after this original interview. In that conversation, we talk about his return to the outdoor industry, his renewed passion for hunting and shooting sports, and his upcoming 2026 Reloaded Tour. It's fascinating to hear where Patrick was in 2016 and compare it to where he is today. This episode serves as a snapshot in time and a reminder that while a lot can change in a decade, some things, like a passion for the outdoors and a good turkey hunting story, never really do. So before Episode 260 drops, I invite you to take a trip back to the Black Hills with us. In this episode, we discuss: • Turkey hunting in South Dakota's Black Hills • Hunting property management and trail camera strategies • Quality deer management practices • Outdoor media and authenticity in the hunting industry • Mentoring youth in the shooting sports • Women in the outdoor industry • The evolution of hunting television and outdoor content • Memories from the AGLOW Cast & Blast in Deadwood • Legendary turkey hunter Mike McGrew and the stories that still make us laugh today Be sure to subscribe so you don't miss Episode 260, where Patrick and I reconnect nearly a decade later to discuss his return to the outdoor industry and the launch of his 2026 Reloaded Tour.
