We have a sneak peek for our listeners--the first episode our new Patreon bonus series on David Milch's brilliant (but short-lived) series "Deadwood." In this inaugural edition of "The Ambulators" (we promise the name makes sense), Tamler and David discuss the pilot episode "Deadwood."
Back after a bit of a break Krys leads off strong with tales of McKinney Texas and some of it's haunted hot spots. Starting with Buckner Cemetery aka O'Brien Cemetery, this place of burial was the spot of public executions and as well as a marketplace during said executions. The ghost of an indigenous person is said to haunt the spot. Next up the Celt Irish Pub and it's famous poker playing outlaw Jesse James. This building has been through different stages and has some permanent residents. Chestnut Square Historic Village is our last stop in McKinney and this shows off the way of life from 1854-1920. This place has some of Krys's favorite ghosts, kid ghosts. Tori comes in second with the tale of Deadwood, South Dakota. This wild west frontier town is in an area that proves once again, white people suck. This town was home to such notable figures such as Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane, Seth Bullock, and Al Swearengen. These folks seem to be staying around for much longer than mortal years. Finishing up we have Mt. Moriah Cemetery because really? The most expensive NFL teams, a Big Brother style celebrity game show that focuses on people who are fame adjacent, another update on the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard saga, Deadwood is based off real life events, 31 years ago today Rick James was arrested, Scott Budman joins the show to talk about millennial debt, including student loans, credit cards, and interest rates going up, and the secret to being the most fascinating person!
Seth Bullock arrived in Deadwood, Dakota Territory, on this date in 1876. Bullock's history as Deadwood Sheriff and U.S. Marshal was featured in the HBO television series, "Deadwood," but his lasting legacy on Dakota Territory is much more legendary than his portrayal in the television show.

From Plum Creek With Love: A Little House on the Prairie Podcast
Crime is running rampant in Walnut Grove. Not as rampant as Newton or Deadwood, but Laura has to endure another empty pail when her lunch ends up being stolen twice in the same week. It's not only her, a number of thefts have been committed and the only thing being taken is food. Thus the Ingallas and Garvey detective agency is founded to find the perpetrators. And hilarity ensues as Laura and Andy try to catch the guilty party. From coating the mercantile with flour, pouncing on Mrs. Oleson, or giving Charles a new dye job…these sleuths are anything but super. When the “Creeper” is eventually revealed, it brings up a dilemma as what is right or wrong. Should Laura consider asking Carrie to be a spy more frequently as a way of ditching her sister? What other fun hair colors should Charles consider? Will Bandit prove that he's just as good as being a guard dog as Jack was?

The sideplots continue with Season 6, Episode 7, "The Broken Man." This episode is special for a variety of different reasons, but namely, because it features the return of a fan favorite character who was previously thought dead by many, Sandor "The Hound" Clegane. The episode chronicles his stay with a small commune of Riverland civilians led by the charismatic Brother Ray, portrayed in a guest spot by Deadwood's Ian McShane, and shows the Hound returning to the fold by refusing to remain broken and helpless as the forces that be continue to terrorize the innocents of the realm. In the North, Jon & Sansa continue their recruitment of their allies to take back Winterfell, but find more opposed to them than previously thought, forcing Sansa to make a desperate move. In King's Landing, Margaery begs Olenna to remove herself from harm's way, while Cersei attempts to make amends, only for Olenna to throw it back at her face. Jaime arrives at Riverrun to treat with the Blackfish, but finds him to be not at all hospitable. Theon & Yara stop off for a quick drink and a pep talk. Arya struts her way down the docks of Braavos, throwing gold ay any sailor willing to take her home, and then seems surprised when the Waif pops out of nowhere and stabs her, but the grace of the Many Faced God allows her to magically survive. Like the frontier characters from Deadwood, his favorite TV show, Marc Andreessen has discovered that the real challenge to building in new territory is not in the practicalities of learning a trade, but in developing a savviness for what makes people tick. Without understanding the deep patterns of human behavior, how can you know what to build, or who should build it, or how? For Marc, that means reading deeply in the humanities: “I spent the first 25 years of my life trying to understand how machines work,” Marc says. “Then I spent the second 25 years, so far, trying to figure out how people work. It turns out people are a lot more complicated.” Marc joined Tyler to discuss his ever-growing appreciation for the humanities and more, including why he didn't go to a better school, his contrarian take on Robert Heinlein, how Tom Wolfe helped Marc understand his own archetype, who he'd choose to be in Renaissance Florence, which books he's reread the most, Twitter as an X-ray machine on public figures, where in the past he'd most like to time-travel, his favorite tech product that no longer exists, whether Web will improve podcasting, the civilization-level changes made possible by remote work, Peter Thiel's secret to attracting talent, which data he thinks would be most helpful for finding good founders, how he'd organize his own bookstore, the kinds of people he admires most, and why Deadwood is equal to Shakespeare. Peter said he was a jock in high school and was convinced by a girl to try out for school play and HE GOT IT, from that moment on he did every play he could. Peter talked about how he worked with John Wayne, John Carpenter, the spiders in Arachnophobia, shooting commercials in New Jersey in the 70s, landing Deadwood, and more. Peter has a new movie out on VOD 5/31 called "Deep in the Forest" (link to the trailer below) This is a video interview you can watch at sequelsonly.com/peterjason Links mentioned in this episode: "Deep in the Forest" Trailer link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdV7us5FQvg "Deep in the Forest" will be available VOD on 5/31 Peter's IMDb https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0419273/ Next up is our review "Mannequin Two", which is free on Tubi and the following week is "Escape from LA". From Plum Creek With Love: A Little House on the Prairie Podcast
When it rains it pours and in the case of Walnut Grove...it's been raining for TWO months. Mr. Edwards returns to town after losing work in Mankato and mentions how the entire state is underwater. However, he does have a plan. His plan involves the Ingallas and the Edwards/Snider/Sanderson troupe to leave Walnut Grove and head East into the Dakota territory to pan for Gold. The 400-mile trip leads them to Deadwood at which point they promptly leave and travel 50 more miles to arrive in Newton and then 5 miles beyond that to arrive at Shadow Creek. Along the way we meet the Griffin and Delano families who are more than happy to assist and join the caravan on their way to Newton. Once claims are...clamied it's a little lite hearted time as things are getting situated. In this time Laura and Carl meet an old Hermit, Zachariah, who lives along the banks of Shadow creek. However, when he hears that people are coming into the area to start looking for gold, Zachariah has some wisdom to share on the affects gold can have on people. He is speaking from experience. Will we ever see a map on LHOTP that shows the real location of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota? Does a covered wagon have really good sound insulation that it can drown out the sound of rainfall? Do you think that Seth Bullock and Al Swearengen were in Deadwood the same times the Ingallas and Edwards/Snider/Sanderson passed through?
Jon and JR chat about NASA movies with Apollo 10 1/2, The Right Stuff, and Contact. It's up for grabs which subject Jon rambles on about for longer: his love for Carl Sagan or the loss of reckless freedom that American kids used to have. JR's a good sport and only tells him he's full of shit once or twice. the_right_apollo_contact.mp3File Size: 69637 kbFile Type: mp3Download File [...]
This week, we discuss "Jason X" aka Jason Goes to Space. It's Friday the 13th this week, so we are required by sequel law to review one and we picked a doozy. I admittedly never gave this one an honest chance when I rented it at 15 years old, but I had a lot of fun 20 years later. We discussed the reason this movie is set in the future, possible other plots for future installments, the terrible professor, nano spiders, the epic kills, and more. This is a video review you can watch at sequelsonly.com/JasonX The next two weeks are back-to-back interviews with two AMAZING actors who I grew up on, Stuart Pankin and Peter Jason. They are both in a new film that premieres VOD on 5/31 called "Deep in the Forest". See the trailer at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdV7us5FQvg Stuart Pankin is an actor who grew up in Philadelphia and went on to be in all your favorite tv and movies growing up like The Dirt Bike Kid, Mannequin 2 (which we are covering), Arachnophobia, Not Necessarily the News, Knots Landing, the voice of Earl Sinclair on The Dinosaurs, and more. Stuart was a hoot and loved talking about how his journey to Hollywood began. Peter Jason is an actor who has worked with everyone from John Wayne to Spielberg to Donald Pleasance to James Garner and he loves talking about the old Hollywood. If it wasn't for a girl he had a crush on senior year, he would have never tried out for the school play and it was instant love. Peter's credits include They Live, Gunsmoke, Deadwood, Arachnophobia, Escape from LA(which we are covering), Baskets, and more. Peter and Stuart became dear friends on the set of Arachnophobia and have been buddies ever since. James Butler “Bill” Hickok was born on May 27th, 1837 in LaSalle County, Illinois. An excellent marksman from a young age, in 1855 he became a Kansas Abolitionist Jayhawker. From there he became a constable, joined the Pony Express parent company, was badly wounded by a bear, and committed his first justifiable homicide. This was all before the age of twenty-five. During the Civil War, Hickok became a Union Army teamster, a wagon master, joined the Kansas Brigade, and became a spy for the provost marshall of Missouri. He was also a gambler and drinker, known to carouse for days at a time. On July 21st, 1865, Hickok took part in his first duel, killing a man named Davis Tutt. He shot Tutt through the heart from seventy-five yards away. A subsequent interview with Harper's New Monthly Magazine labeled him Wild Bill for the first time. Rather than become an outlaw, Hickok became a lawman. He was soon a deputy Marshal at Fort Riley, and scouted for Custer's Seventh Cavalry. By December of 1867 he was a Marshall in Hays City, and later sheriff of the same town. In April of 1871 he became Marshall in Abilene, Kansas. That October, Hickok justifiably killed a saloon owner named Phil Coe. But, during the fight, Hickok saw a man running towards him. He wheeled and fired, killing what turned out to be his own deputy. The event haunted Hickok the rest of his life. It was the last time he was ever involved in a gunfight. Radio's version bore little resemblance to the real man. The format was the same used by the producers of Hopalong Cassidy and The Cisco Kid. Bill's comic sidekick, Jingles B. Jones was voiced by the famed Andy Devine. Guy Madison was Wild Bill. Hollywood regulars supported. It was directed by Paul Pierce. The show first aired over Mutual on May 27th, 1951. On May 14th, 1954 the episode was called “Dangerous Advice.” Wild Bill Hickok aired until New Year's Eve 1954. Mutual brought it back the following July. It ran until February of 1956. In early 1876 Hickok was diagnosed with glaucoma. Fearing blindness, he joined friends Charlie Utter and Calamity Jane Cannary in Deadwood, Dakota Territory. On August 2nd, 1876 he was playing poker. He'd badly beaten a man named Jack McCall the night before at cards. Although Hickok usually sat facing the door, no such seats were available. That afternoon he was playing five-card poker and holding a pair of Aces and Eights. Jack McCall walked in and shot Hickok in the back of the head from point blank range. Wild Bill died instantly. He was thirty-nine.

During the its early years, Bismarck was right on the heels of Deadwood in lawlessness, violence and the selling of liquor. But, by the early 1900s, some residents felt it was time to actually enforce prohibition. Saloons that carried on in secret were called “blind pigs,” and their beverages were either illegally produced locally or smuggled in from Canada.
With time running out before the launch of the Europa Mission, Picard and Guinan must free themselves from FBI custody. Seven and Raffi come face-to-face with Jurati and the horror of what she's become. This audio is a short sample of a much longer discussion that Clay and I had about the Star Trek: Picard second season episode, “Mercy”. To listen to the entire discussion, head over to Patreon and support the show. For only $5 a month, you'll get full access to our coverage of Picard. In this episode of the podcast, Wes and Clay discuss "Mercy" and the watering down of the concept of trauma. Plus! Welcome to Twenty Dollars a Day, the podcast where we explore our favorite holodeck adventures in the Star Trek universe! Nathan and Eppy go back to the Ancient West in TNG S6E8: A Fistful of Datas. The Enterprise has some well-deserved downtime, and Worf can't invent enough work to keep him from joining his son Alexander in the Ancient West town of Deadwood. Elsewhere, a test of Data's interface with the ship crosses some wires, and suddenly the villains of the Western adventure... are all Data. Sure, it's a silly episode, but it's also charming in its enthusiastic homage to Western films, and we had a really fun time talking about it! Happy April, everyone! This is our fifth look at a Star Trek holodeck episode that follows on the themes of our first love, The Rockford FIles. Hope you enjoy it! We have another podcast: Plus Expenses. Covering our non-Rockford media, games and life chatter, Plus Expenses is available via our Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/twohundredaday) at ALL levels of support.
