Initial impressions of a new city are distorted by jet lag, disorientation, and comparison to where you just left. Give a place at least two to three weeks before deciding how you feel about it. ∙ Have connectivity before you land. Get an eSIM (Airalo, Holafly, etc.) sorted before arrival. You'll need it for navigation, translation, and emergency communication — not later, immediately. ∙ Slow down more than you think you should. One-month minimums transform a place from a sightseeing checklist into somewhere you actually live. That's when the real experience starts. In this installment of Nomads at the Frontier, Data Center Frontier Editor-in-Chief Matt Vincent checks in with Nomad Futurist founders Nabeel Mahmood and Phillip Koblence for on-the-ground reflections from PTC 2026 in Hawaii, and a clear signal that the digital infrastructure market is shifting from hype to delivery. Mahmood says PTC 2026 reaffirmed the move toward integrated digital infrastructure, with attendance continuing to grow and conversations increasingly translating into real progress. But the defining theme across AI, investment, and deployments was power. As Koblence puts it, “all of those questions are power”—and unlike prior years, the tone has moved from speculative site talk to “show me the money, show me the power,” with real timelines and secured capacity. The episode digs into the industry's evolving stance on behind-the-meter generation, which is increasingly treated as the most viable medium-term path to getting online as grid bureaucracy and interconnection delays become the “long pole in the tent.” The discussion also tackles the sustainability tension in that shift: why the industry often kicks the can down the road, what alternative options (fuel cells, hydrogen) may offer, and why nuclear timelines don't solve the near-term gap. Mahmood and Koblence also emphasize that the buildout isn't just a power story; it's a people and community story. Workforce shortages remain structural and long-lived, and community acceptance is now central to the industry's “license to build.” Nomad Futurist's mission, they argue, is becoming a bridge between digital infrastructure and the public, demystifying what the industry is, why it matters, and how the next generation can enter it. Finally, the conversation pressures-tests the AI boom: Mahmood predicts the “mega-scale AI factory” bubble will burst within three to five years, with growth shifting toward inferencing closer to users, but he still expects the sector to normalize into sustained double-digit expansion. And on Nvidia's roadmap, both founders call for realism: megawatt racks may be coming, but as Koblence notes, “there are zero facilities” today that can support a 1–1.5 MW rack at scale.

Fr. Matthias Shehad continues his study of 2nd Maccabees chapters 11 and 12, focusing on the military struggles between the Jewish people and the Greek forces under the rule of Antiochus and his successors. He explains how Lysias, guardian of the young king, leads a large army to besiege Jerusalem, but is defeated through prayer and divine intervention. Fr. Matthias highlights the peace treaty negotiated between Judas Maccabeus and the Greek authorities, the ongoing threats from Greek generals and hostile neighbors, and Judas's military campaigns to defend and restore Jewish territories. The discussion explores the political dynamics, warfare tactics, and the importance of faith and prayer during these conflicts. Additionally, Fr. Matthias addresses the belief in the resurrection of the dead and the practice of praying for the deceased, as described in this biblical text. This study offers historical context on the Maccabean revolt and its significance in Jewish history. In this episode we meet Ron, who spent decades with his family living in South Asia with nomadic peoples - shepherds and goatherders who spend the winters on the plains and the summers up in the mountains. We'll hear about the many dangers that they face and the many tragedies they endure. We also learn about how the nomadic life and mindset can teach us much about the various cultures and historical contexts of the Bible. In what sense are we, as the people of God, also nomadic? What is significant about the theme of 'tabernacle' throughout the Scriptures? To learn more about nomads or working with nomads, do check out The Nomadic Peoples Network here. For our holiday episode, we sat down with Scrooged, and it ended up being a huge hit with all of us. Dave and Brandon were already familiar with this twisted Christmas classic, but for Eric—being the youngest of the group—this was his very first viewing, Across the board, we praised the film's sharp production, spot-on casting, and the unforgettable score by Danny Elfman. What stood out was how confidently Scrooged updates A Christmas Carol for a modern audience, balancing cynicism, heart, and humor in a way that still feels relevant decades later. It's a holiday episode full of laughs, nostalgia, and genuine appreciation for a bold reimagining of a timeless story. Stick around until the end fcor a round of Holiday Trivia!Happy Holidays, Nomads.

Pastronauts have been asking "Please Please Please" for a new episode, so here's James Brown & The Famous Flames' 1956 debut ... what a way to begin a career! He basically sings two words the entire song and it's an unequalled vocal performance. After that, we have renditions by The Five Royales and a bizarre one by Ike & Tina Turner which is more speech than song. Sprinkled in are some garage versions by The Viceroys (Pacific NW band in the vein of The Wailers), The Who, and a bleatin' one by Ed Wool and the Nomads!

WoW Classic Classic is good, not many people are online at this time and there is always room for more. SWTOR We are looking forward to update 7.8, which is going to include a unique style of Dynamic Encounter called the Wreckage of Dantooine. A ship with powerful technology is going to crash land on Dantooine, spilling out its cargo of basically terraforming bacteria and substances along with the droids to make it all happen. This will create burgeoning biomes that will start to push out the native farming land of peaceful Dantooine. Players will have the opportunity to enter the biomes and push them back by doing various activities to make a central boss accessible. We are hoping this form of Dynamic Encounter is guild friendly, meaning that everyone in a raid group will get credit as we work toward the goals. Fingers crossed! 7.8 does not have a date yet, but it should be on the test servers soon. ESO
Shocktober continues! This week, The Nomads of Fantasy sink their teeth into Sinners (2025), Ryan Coogler's Southern Gothic vampire story set in the 1930s. We break down its haunting mix of horror and history, exploring Michael B. Jordan's dual roles, Ryan Coogler's direction, and the film's deep themes of sin, faith, and survival. With stunning visuals by Autumn Durald Arkapaw, music by Ludwig Göransson, and production design by Hannah Beachler, Sinners proves that even in the dark, beauty and terror can coexist.Join us as we continue our month of chills with this soulful, blood-soaked entry in Shocktober — one that's as thought-provoking as it is terrifying.

CINEMATIC VIOLENCE WILL BE CELEBRATED IN A WAY THAT MAY DISTURB SOME LISTENERS. Finally, Squib Season (Season 15 of TGTPTU) returns to massive gunplay! This week the hosts repel into the 1980's sci-fi quasi-horror bro-action all-muscle (except maybe Shane Black and/or Elpidia Carrillo) high-octane totally-bitchin' jungle of some unnamed Latin American country to encounter PREDATOR (1987). Director John McTiernan's follow-up to his 1986 freshman feature film (maybe named “Nomads” who knows? Pierce Brosnan and perhaps supportive family members, maybe the film's producers, and apparently the up-and-coming action star Arnold Schwarzenegger had heard of and/or watched the moody low-budget flick), Predator would launch the moviemaker into the firmament and keep him in Hollywood's heavens following up this constrained-budget film with every film dad's favorite Christmas movie and then their favorite Russian seamen film (before making Medicine Man and Last Action Hero and falling to earth). If you don't know the plot, why spoil it and who the heck are you anyway and why are you reading the show notes to a movie podcast? Seriously, let us know: thegoodthepodandtheugly@gmail.com. (Unless you're AI, in which case, thanks for helping edit this episode!). For this Shocktober, The Nomads of Fantasy dive into the long-awaited anime adaptation of Uzumaki—Junji Ito's hypnotic horror classic about a town consumed by spirals. Across four episodes, we found ourselves mesmerized by the haunting black-and-white art direction and genuinely impressed by the eerie tone of the first episode. Unfortunately, that's where the spiral started to unravel. With almost no character development, a disjointed story, and an ending that left us more frustrated than frightened, Uzumaki became an experience that tested our patience as much as our sanity. Still, with its troubled production and ambitious visuals, it's worth at least one watch—just maybe not all four.
Greetings Imperial. In this episode, the boys venture deep into the shifting sands of Necromunda's outer wastes to uncover the truth behind one of the planet's most elusive factions — the Ash Waste Nomads.Born in the dust and forged by exile, the earliest Nomads of Confrontation and '95 weren't the spectral hunters we know today. They were traders, scavengers, and killers when the road demanded it — more human than horror. But the modern era reshaped them into something far more sinister. Now, they haunt the dunes as faceless wraiths of the wasteland — moving like whispers on the wind, their motives buried beneath layers of dust and myth.Mysterious. Deadly. Unknowable. So buckle in, scummers — this one's thick with theory, speculation, and a fair bit of desert madness. If you have questions, complaints, corrections or suggestions, email us at Underhivelorekeepers@gmail.com. In this DCF Trends-Nomads at the Summit Podcast episode, Matt Grandbois, Vice President at AirJoule, introduces a game-changing approach to one of the data center industry's most pressing challenges: water sustainability. As power-hungry, high-density environments collide with growing water scarcity concerns, Grandbois lays out a compelling vision for water-positive data centers—facilities that produce more water than they consume. Leveraging AirJoule's advanced atmospheric water harvesting technology, he explains how waste heat, typically seen as a problem to mitigate, can become a valuable resource for onsite water generation. From adiabatic cooling and humidification to local water replenishment, this conversation opens up new possibilities for sustainable design, reduced PUE, and location flexibility—redefining what it means for data centers to be responsible community partners.
In this DCF Trends-Nomads at the Summit Podcast episode, the Data Center Frontier and Nomad Futurist hosts engage in a dynamic, behind-the-scenes conversation with two of the most influential voices shaping digital infrastructure communications: Illisa Miller, founder of iMiller PR, and Adam Waitkunas, founder of Milldam PR. With decades of experience guiding some of the industry's most prominent brands through launches, crises, and rebranding efforts, Miller and Waitkunas offer an unfiltered look at what it really takes to cut through the noise in a crowded, technically complex market. From telling the right story about AI and sustainability, to building trust across hyperscalers, investors, and public stakeholders, this episode explores the evolving narrative demands of the data center space—and why strategic communications is now mission-critical to business success. Expect honest reflections, practical PR wisdom, and a few war stories from the front lines of digital infrastructure storytelling.

Where did the apple come from, and how did it go from a sour, berry-sized wild fruit to the sweet, plump star of our fruit bowls today? Was it really bears (and their sweet tooth) that shaped its destiny? How did the mountains of Kazakhstan become the apple's Garden of Eden, and what role did nomads, traders, and even the poets of Ancient Greece play in transforming it from wild crab to cultivated treasure? And why has this fruit, more than almost any other, become so entangled in our myths, our laws, and our imaginations?Join John and Patrick as they peel back the first layer of the apple's astonishing story—from its tangled roots in Central Asia to its golden glow in the myths of Greece—in the opening episode of this epic five-part series.----------In Sponsorship with J&K Fresh. The customs broker who is your fruit and veggies' personal bodyguard. We review our approach to international stock funds and how to improve their diversification, try to help out a Canadian nomad and discuss some new Vanguard funds. And THEN we our go through our weekly and monthly portfolio reviews of the eight sample portfolios you can find at Portfolios | Risk Parity Radio.Additional Links:US vs International Stocks In Strong And Weak Dollar Markets (link from Episode 393: us-dollar-strength-has-correlated-with-performance-03312023.pdfTestfolio Analysis of VXUS vs. AVDV and IDMO: testfol.io/analysis?s=eDLfJ4jcFLKConstructing a Golden Ratio Portfolio with International Components: We Built a 5% SWR Retirement Portfolio Using Fidelity in 48 Minutes (Golden Ratio Portfolio)Byron's Link: Vanguard Launches a New Actively Managed Bond ETF | VanguardNew Wellington ETFs: Vanguard to Launch First Stock-Picking ETFs With Wellington — at Its Highest Fees YetBreathless Unedited AI-Bot Summary:Conventional wisdom about international diversification gets turned on its head as we explore what truly drives the performance difference between domestic and international stocks. Far from being about different economies or company headquarters, approximately 40-50% of this performance gap stems directly from currency fluctuations between the US dollar and foreign currencies. When the dollar weakens, international stocks surge; when it strengthens, US stocks lead. For investors focused on building resilient portfolios with sustainable withdrawal rates, this revelation reshapes diversification priorities. Value versus growth diversification emerges as significantly more important than geographic diversification, followed by size factor (small versus large caps). This hierarchy challenges the simplistic notion that pairing a total US market fund with a total international fund provides meaningful protection.Large US companies already operate globally, selling into worldwide markets regardless of headquarters location. This makes traditional total international funds less diversified from US large caps than many investors realize. Instead of blanket international exposure, we explore more effective approaches using specific international value, small-cap, and emerging market funds that provide genuine diversification benefits. The episode also tackles practical implementation questions, including how expatriates and nomadic investors might construct globally resilient portfolios using Irish-domiciled ETFs for potential tax advantages. We briefly examine Vanguard's new ETF offerings and explain why their corporate bond funds hold limited appeal for investors seeking recession insurance rather than income. Our monthly portfolio review highlights gold's stellar performance (up 31.56% year-to-date) amid dollar weakness, demonstrating the principles discussed throughout the episode. These eight real-world portfolios showcase different approaches to implementing risk parity principles, with performance and distribution data available at riskparityreview.com.Support the show
