The book of Joshua is teaching us that we conquer by faith. All of us are on a faith journey. Everyone puts their faith in something or someone every day. As believers we should place our faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word, the Bible. Others place their faith in a person or in a religion. Some put their faith in themselves. But the only faith that never fails to bring joy, contentment, satisfaction, and genuine rest, is a faith that believes and trust in the true and living God through His Son Jesus Christ! A genuine faith is evidenced by obedience to God's Word. James used these first chapters in Joshua to make this point in James 2:25-26: “Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” The Holy Spirit also directed the writer of the Epistle to the Hebrews to use this event as one of the "by faith" examples in Hebrews 11. The fall of Jericho is an encouragement to God's people to trust the Lord's promises and obey His instructions, no matter how impossible the situation may appear to be. You and I may not capture a city as Joshua did, but in our everyday lives we face enemies and high walls that challenge us. The only way to grow in faith is to accept new challenges and trust God to give you victory. "Do not pray for easy lives," said Phillips Brooks; "pray to be better men and women. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers; pray for power equal to your tasks." Moses in his closing words to the twelve tribes made this statement in Deuteronomy 33:25, “…as your days, so shall your strength be.” He did not say, “As your strength is, so shall your days be”. We often make excuses for not obeying the Lord and claiming His promises because we don't feel like we have the strength to do what He is asking us to do. Like simply getting out of bed early to read our Bible and spend some time in prayer before we leave for work. But an amazing thing takes place when we obey. God's Holy Spirit empowers us with His supernatural energy to do whatever He has asked us to do. Actually, it is when we feel the weakest that we experience the power of God working in our lives for the journey we are facing that moment and that day. Paul had a problem he felt was hindering him and prayed for it to be taken away. But instead, God responded with: "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." So Paul went on to say: “Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:9-10). God doesn't promise strength for tomorrow, but for today. That is why He taught us to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread….”. We can only live one day at a time. We can't live tomorrow! Jesus reminded us in Matthew 6:30-34: “Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” If God tells you to simply walk around the city walls, by faith obey Him! He will give you strength and courage for each step! Yes, He will give you strength for the journey! God bless!
In this episode, Rev.Jesse reminds us that life is a marathon, not a sprint. He shares the story of Elijah, who found renewed strength through rest and nourishment. Jesse encourages us to rest, reflect, and refresh, as the journey is long and we need all the strength we can get. Psalm 119:153-160 is the twentieth stanza of this psalm, and every line or verse begins with the twentieth letter of the Hebrew alphabet “RESH”, in the Hebrew Bible. Have you noticed that the writer became more urgent as he drew near the end of the psalm? The Hebrew alphabet was about to end, but his trials would continue, and he needed the help of the Lord. The last three stanzas all speak of persecution and trials, yet the writer still trusted the Lord. The higher we climb on the mountain of life the tougher the journey becomes. The older we get both physically and spiritually, we notice that we need the LORD more than ever before to help us and give us strength for the journey of life. The key phrase in this stanza is "revive me" (vv. 154, 156, 159), which means "give me life, lift me up and keep me going." The psalmist had prayed this prayer before (vv. 25, 37, 40, 88, 107, and 149), and the Lord had answered. Here, he not only prayed but also gave reasons why the Lord should answer. First, we can pray “revive me”, for He is our Redeemer (vv. 153-155). "Consider my affliction" is a request for the Lord to "see to" his needs. Abraham used this word when he answered his son's question in Genesis 22:8, "The Lord will see to it," in other words, He will provide the sacrifice. Our wonderful Lord not only "sees" the need but can "see to" providing what is needed. He is our Jehovah Jireh! "The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry" (Psalm 34:15; 1 Peter 3:12). The word "redeem" speaks of the kinsman redeemer who could rescue a family member in need, as Boaz rescued Ruth. (See Lev. 25:23-34.) In His incarnation, Jesus entered the human family and became our kinsman, and in the crucifixion, He paid the price to redeem us from sin, death, and hell. "Plead my cause" ties in with Jesus as our Kinsman Redeemer and also as our Surety (v. 122), Mediator, and Advocate, who represents us before the throne of God (1 John 2:1-2). In our affliction, it is comforting to know that the Son of God intercedes for us, hears our prayers, and meets our needs. Next, we ask the LORD to “revive me”, because He is Merciful (vv. 156-158). If we prayed on the basis of our own merit, God could never answer, but we come to the Father in the name of the Son (John 14:14; 15:16) and with the help of the Spirit (Eph. 2:18; Rom. 8:26-27). God in His grace gives us what we do not deserve, and in His mercy He does not give us what we do deserve. His throne is a throne of grace where grace and mercy are abundantly available to us (Heb. 4:16). The psalmist was still disgusted with the way the unbelievers lived (v. 158; see vv. 53, 136), but their bad example did not change his own convictions. Finally, we pray “revive me”, because His Word can be trusted (vv. 159-160). "The entirety of your word is truth" (v. 160) and this means all of it can be trusted. The totality of God's written revelation is not just true, it is truth. To love the Word is to obey it, and to obey it is to receive life from it. The Bible is not a magic book that conveys divine life to anyone who picks it up and reads it. God's living Word communicates His life and power to those who read it, meditate on it, and obey it because they love God and His Word. When Jesus raised the dead, it was through speaking the Word (Luke 7:11-17; 8:40-56; John 11:38-44; see John 5:24), and His Word gives us life today when we find ourselves in the dust (v. 25). Today, do you need strength for the journey? I assure you that you will find it as you spend time in communion with the LORD and His Word. God bless!

As you pray for strength, take comfort in this, that God will never leave you nor forsake you. He is always by you side!
Bill was a very successful businessman for a lot of years. About 10 years ahead of retirement, he decided to entrust a lot of money to the investment wizardry of Bernie Madoff. And when Madoff's Ponzi scheme imploded, Bill joined many others who now had to wonder where their money went. And he thought of suicide. For fully two years, he struggled to get out of bed. He felt sapped of energy every waking moment. Then, on a park bench one afternoon, he met Mildred, who shared the Good News of Jesus with him. And Bill said later that during his walk home, he could feel blood flow back into his legs. And by the time he got home, he dusted off a Bible and began his journey to Christ. He says, “He saved me in every way. I no longer felt weak and helpless. Today, I look forward to my future.” Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” And Christ longs to give you the strength to live a full life. Let's pray. Lord, our hope is in You and You alone. Thank You for loving us enough to want the very best for us. Thank You for strength for the journey. In Jesus' name, amen.

Lunch with Pastor Larry | Tuesday, 8-22-23 | Strength for the Journey in Life - Part 2 | Episode 2 on www.podcastwithpastorlarry.com https://www.facebook.com/FreedomInVirginia/videos/1248240499213596 There are principles in God's Word that:Guide us (Proverbs 4:5-6, Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget it, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. 6 Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; love her, and she will keep you. Proverbs 4:7, Wisdom is principal; therefore get wisdom. And with all your getting, get understanding. Wisdom is the captain. It's the most important quality in life. Proverbs 8:11, for wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it. Matthew 16:26, For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? How do you come to have peace in your life? It is by receiving wisdom through God's Word. Proverbs 4:10-19, Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, and the years of your life will be many.11 I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in right paths.12 When you walk, your steps will not be hindered, and when you run, you will not stumble.13 Take firm hold of instruction, do not let her go; keep her, for she is your life.14 Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not go in the way of evil men.15 Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and pass on.16 For they do not sleep unless they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away unless they cause some to fall.17 For they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.18 But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more unto the perfect day.19 The way of the wicked is as darkness; they do not know at what they stumble. As a motivation, Solomon tells his son about the path that is right before him. Pay attention to what is right in front of you. We can think, at times, we are on the right path, yet find ourselves stumbling along life. We may need to recalibrate our life and bring God and His Word closer to us and thirst for His wisdom and not those around us. God gives us guidance. The path of the wicked is controlled by the evil. Our lives must be controlled by the Word of God. Proverbs 4:18, But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more unto the perfect day. It's not always easy to ask for help. But there is someone who truly understands what you may be going through. This week, Charles Tapp reveals what God has promised us, and challenges the believer to not be afraid to make your requests known to God, as he continues with part 2 in this series “Strength for the Journey” with his message “A Bold Request.”
It would be nice if God could just remove the pain and obstacles in our way. But as Charles Tapp reveals this week, there is a grace that God offers every believer when they find themselves faced with the most challenging circumstances. He shares what that looks like, and how to receive it, as he begins a new series of messages “Strength for the Journey” with part 1 “Perfect Weakness.”

When God is not our priority, our self-absorption destroys both us and our relationship with Him. To ensure we understand the cost of Calvary, God gave us Moriah. On that mountain, Abraham, a picture of God the Father, laid Isaac down, the picture of Christ the Son. In this message, we find three lessons about Abraham's worshipful sacrifice. God knows sacrifice. When God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, his only son of the promise, the only fitting response was obedience. In this message, we ascend the mountain with Abraham and Isaac while reflecting on the coming Redeemer from Isaac's line. Let's plumb the depths of a story only God could have written. Even if we say we do not love the world, we can be tempted to violate our consciences. Lot compromised because his faith was too weak to stand against Sodom's relentless debauchery. He lost his testimony, his family, and his character. In this message, we apply lessons from Lot's failure. Is God faithful even when we fall hard? To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/172/29
Just like Abraham interceded to spare Sodom and Gomorrah, Christians make an impact in the world. In this message, we contemplate lessons on prayer for others, for our cities, and for our families. Despite Abraham's intense intersession, the cities were destroyed. Was His prayer worth it? To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/172/29
When we feel burned by unanswered prayer, we often neglect our friendship with God. With neighboring cities facing fire and brimstone, Abraham welcomed three menno ordinary meninto his tent. In this message, we listen to Abraham's intercession for Sodom and Gomorrah with transforming lessons for our prayer life. Let's recover the primary purpose for prayer. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/172/29
When resentment, envy, or anger entangle us, our souls are dragged away from God like the two sons of Abraham who parted ways. In this message, we discover three lessons about the desires of the flesh and true submission to God. We cannot live as a child of promise and a child of the flesh at the same time. God's purpose for the line of promise stands. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/172/29
When God is silent, we often doubt His promises. After the birth of Ishmael, Abraham did not hear from God for years. In this message, we are going to look at the nature and participants of God's covenant with Abraham. What happened when God called Abraham by name, the father of many nations? To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/172/29
We might be the victim of our own decisions or others. Abraham and Sarah's maid, Hagar, bore a sonan heir. When she was pushed into the desert, God found her and comforted her. In this message, we look at God's command and promise to Hagar. People do not have the last word. In our despair and our extremities, God sees and intervenes. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/172/29
Sometimes, we try to engineer circumstances to bring God's will to pass. In the face of childlessness, Abraham and Sarah were faced with a decisionone of desperation, frustration, and opportunity. In this message, we walk through the sequence of events that led to conflict in his family. The immediate consequences were devastating. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/172/29
How do we know God is working in us to bring about His purpose? In Genesis 15, God makes a covenant with Abrahamentirely based on His own word. In this message, we are invited to a covenant without conditions. God says He will do what He promisesour eternities depend on it. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/172/29
When situations spiral into sin or anxiety, what really matters is our own trust and whether God is trustworthy. In Genesis 15, God makes an astounding promise. But Abraham is obsessed with the problem of the promise. In this message, we reflect on God's three promises to Abraham. Do we trust God to protect and preserve us? To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/172/29
In our heart of hearts, we have a choice of allegiances: receive God's blessing or manipulate to our own ends. Lot chose to ally with the King of Sodom. Abraham paid homage to the King of Salem, priest of the God Most High. In this message, we perform a heart check on what possesses us at our points of decision. Our choices expose what we really want. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/172/29
The decisions we makeeven about moneyhave eternal consequences. After an unusual victory, Abraham is given a choice between selfish dealings and generosity. In this message, we are introduced to two kings at Abraham's point of decision. Are we living like God owns everything or do our decisions and bank accounts say otherwise? To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/172/29
Respectable sins are often the most dangerous in families. Abraham let his nephew, Lot, pick the land he wanted while agreeing to take what was remaining. Lot's pursuit of prestige and position would result in terrible consequences, affecting his testimony, his family, and his character. God gives His best to those who entrust their future and legacy to Him. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/172/29
After backsliding in Egypt, Abraham returned to God. Yet his renewed faith is tested again during a dispute about the land. In this message, we meet two menAbraham and his nephew, Lotat the impasse of faith. Let's learn from Abraham why we do not have to manipulate circumstances or insist on our own rights. God has our lives in His hands. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/172/29
One choice can cloud the conscience. To save his skin, Abraham bent the truth, telling Egypt's Pharaoh that his wife was his sister. He tried to out-maneuver the Egyptians rather than trust in God. In this message, we identify four lessons at the junction of trusting or backsliding. God beckons us to return with a clear conscience to fellowship with Him. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/172/29
Can we trust God to take care of us? Abraham was chosen by God to leave the comforts of Ur, going a land he had never seen. Along the way, he came face to face with a test of faith which involved his own wife. In this message, we discover the pitfalls of backslidingturning from God to go our own way. Backsliding always has more burdens than blessings. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/172/29
The losses, challenges, and heartaches God brings reveal we were made for another world. God gave Abraham unconditional promisespersonally, nationally, even universallybut not all of them were fulfilled in this life. In this message, we find three lessons from Abraham's first steps of faith that prepare us to trust God with our own journey. Are you living and longing for eternity?
