We're thrilled to announce that our episode “S2.E2. Lost Women of Disco” has been named a finalist in the Best Indie Podcast category at the 2025 Signal Awards! This powerful episode dives deep into the untold stories of the trailblazing women who shaped the culture we now call “disco”, but were overshadowed by history. We are re-releasing this episode, which originally aired on July 22, 2025, to highlight this recognition and to celebrate the forgotten legacy of these groundbreaking artists. Thank you to our listeners and the Signal Awards for this incredible honor. If you haven't tuned in yet, now's the perfect time to discover the voices that helped define a generation. *** *** Women have been central to the evolution of dance music culture since its earliest days, yet their contributions have often been overlooked. From Régine Zylberberg's pioneering work in creating the modern discotheque in 1950s Paris to Sharon White's trailblazing presence at New York's legendary venues in the 1970s, female DJs have shaped dance floors worldwide. Sharon White broke barriers as a Black queer radio DJ, finding her way into the booth at the Paradise Garage in 1975. She became the first female DJ to play at the revered Saint club and spun records at Studio 54. Her influence can be seen in later pioneers like London's Smokin' Jo, who emerged from the British acid house scene to become one of England's most celebrated DJs and the only woman to be awarded DJ of the Year in DJ Magazine's Top 100. In the second episode of Season Two of Soundscapes NYC, hosts Ryan Purcell and Kristie Soares welcome DJ, academic, and journalist Lulu Le Vay to explore the often-untold stories of women in dance music culture. Le Vay, who holds a PhD in Sociology from Goldsmiths and performs as DJ Lulu Levan, represents a new generation of "PhDJs" combining academic inquiry with dance floor experience. From writing for publications like The Face, i-D, and The Guardian to spinning at festivals like Lovebox and Bestival, she documents club culture from multiple perspectives. Currently working on a documentary about women DJs with director Sonja Phillips, Le Vay is also part of Love Underground, a new collaboration with producer Tommy D whose new single "The Journey Part 1" is out on Chillifunk records. Through her podcast Where Love Lives and her work preserving dance music history, Le Vay continues to celebrate the women who built the foundations of club culture. Learn more about your ad choices. This is a Graves Talks CLASSIC EPISODE! What happens when grief collides with the paranormal? For author and actor Phill Webster, it led to a complete transformation of his life and purpose. After spending two decades abroad, Phill returned to his native England during the twilight of the COVID-19 pandemic—only to face a devastating personal loss. But in the depths of sorrow came something extraordinary: a paranormal experience so profound that it shifted his path forever. That journey gave birth to his bestselling book, “Letting Glow: A Guide to Intuition, Spirituality, and Living Consciously.” More than just a memoir, the book acts as a roadmap for anyone seeking to understand the unseen, connect with their higher self, and embrace intuition as a guiding force. Through personal stories, meditations, and practical exercises, Phill shows how small changes in thinking can open the door to greater awareness, purpose, and spiritual connection. In this episode of The Grave Talks, we sit down with Phill Webster to explore the experiences that led to his awakening—moments of haunting, grief, and insight that tore down the walls between this world and the next. From early encounters with the unexplained to his exploration of mediumship and consciousness, Phill invites us into a world where spirituality isn't just abstract—it's lived, felt, and transformative. Was his experience simply a coincidence, or proof of a deeper connection between grief, spirit, and intuition? How does one move from being an actor living abroad to a spiritual seeker uncovering truths about life after death? And what can we learn about intuition and the paranormal from Phill's journey? Jill M. Jackson, known as the Mississippi Medium, has lived a life shaped by extraordinary spiritual experiences. Growing up in the Bible Belt, she began seeing spirits around the age of seven—an ability that left her both frightened and confused, especially when told by her preacher that her gifts were “evil.” For years, Jill hid her abilities, pursuing a conventional career as a CPA and Business Manager in Hollywood. But after several near-death experiences, she could no longer deny her soul's true calling. Today, Jill is a Psychic Medium, Spiritual Teacher, and published author dedicated to helping others awaken to their own gifts and life purpose. In her book Mississippi Medium, she shares unforgettable experiences from the spirit world, including visitations and messages from murder victims seeking justice. Today on The Grave Talks, Jill opens up about her journey, her mission, and the remarkable encounters that have defined her work with the other side. This is Part Two of our conversation. As Christians, we are called to love others. The world has somewhat distorted the definition of love to mean accept, affirm, or make others comfortable. Today, Pastor Bill teaches that truly loving others means that… in his words, “There is a time to go Batman on somebody.” When you truly love someone, you desire to see them succeed and grow, and not just stay stuck in their sins. To be a Christian is to be an ambassador for Christ, and to be an ambassador is to make His Word known.

Whenever you do an act of kindness, what's the mindset behind it? Do you minister to others for God, or do you minister to God? Those may sound similar, but maybe this will help. Imagine you work for a hotel as a greeter. Do you hold the door open for patrons on the company's behalf, or because you want to show them an act of kindness? In today's message, Pastor Bill teaches that, in the same way, you can either serve people for God or serve people to God. It's not just the actions you do, but the heart behind them.
