Psalm 119:145-160 English Standard Version Qoph 145 With my whole heart I cry; answer me, O Lord!     I will keep your statutes. 146 I call to you; save me,     that I may observe your testimonies. 147 I rise before dawn and cry for help;     I hope in your words. 148 My eyes are awake before the watches of the night,     that I may meditate on your promise. 149 Hear my voice according to your steadfast love;     O Lord, according to your justice give me life. 150 They draw near who persecute me with evil purpose;     they are far from your law. 151 But you are near, O Lord,     and all your commandments are true. 152 Long have I known from your testimonies     that you have founded them forever. Resh 153 Look on my affliction and deliver me,     for I do not forget your law. 154 Plead my cause and redeem me;     give me life according to your promise! 155 Salvation is far from the wicked,     for they do not seek your statutes. 156 Great is your mercy, O Lord;     give me life according to your rules. 157 Many are my persecutors and my adversaries,     but I do not swerve from your testimonies. 158 I look at the faithless with disgust,     because they do not keep your commands. 159 Consider how I love your precepts!     Give me life, O Lord, according to your steadfast love. 160 The sum of your word is truth,     and every one of your righteous rules endures forever. Broken Promises Hosea 1-2:13 The word of the LORD that came to Hosea, the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel. 2 When the LORD first spoke through Hosea, the LORD said to Hosea, “Go, take to yourself a wife of whoredom and have children of whoredom, for the land commits great whoredom by forsaking the LORD.” 3 So he went and took Gomer, the daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son. 4 And the LORD said to him, “Call his name Jezreel, for in just a little while I will punish the house of Jehu for the blood of Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel. 5 And on that day I will break the bow of Israel in the Valley of Jezreel.” 6 She conceived again and bore a daughter. And the LORD said to him, “Call her name No Mercy, for I will no more have mercy on the house of Israel, to forgive them at all. 7 But I will have mercy on the house of Judah, and I will save them by the LORD their God. I will not save them by bow or by sword or by war or by horses or by horsemen.” 8 When she had weaned No Mercy, she conceived and bore a son. 9 And the LORD said, “Call his name Not My People, for you are not my people, and I am not your God.” 10  Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or numbered. And in the place where it was said to them, “You are not my people,” it shall be said to them, “Children of the living God.” 11 And the children of Judah and the children of Israel shall be gathered together, and they shall appoint for themselves one head. And they shall go up from the land, for great shall be the day of Jezreel. -- 2  Say to your brothers, “You are my people,” and to your sisters, “You have received mercy.” 2  “Plead with your mother, plead— for she is not my wife, and I am not her husband— that she put away her whoring from her face, and her adultery from between her breasts; 3  lest I strip her naked and make her as in the day she was born, and make her like a wilderness, and make her like a parched land, and kill her with thirst. 4  Upon her children also I will have no mercy, because they are children of whoredom. 5  For their mother has played the whore; she who conceived them has acted shamefully. For she said, ‘I will go after my lovers, who give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.' 6  Therefore I will hedge up her way with thorns, and I will build a wall against her, so that she cannot find her paths. 7  She shall pursue her lovers but not overtake them, and she shall seek them but shall not find them. Then she shall say, ‘I will go and return to my first husband, for it was better for me then than now.' 8  And she did not know that it was I who gave her the grain, the wine, and the oil, and who lavished on her silver and gold, which they used for Baal. 9  Therefore I will take back my grain in its time, and my wine in its season, and I will take away my wool and my flax, which were to cover her nakedness. 10  Now I will uncover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and no one shall rescue her out of my hand. 11  And I will put an end to all her mirth, her feasts, her new moons, her Sabbaths, and all her appointed feasts. 12  And I will lay waste her vines and her fig trees, of which she said, ‘These are my wages, which my lovers have given me.' I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall devour them. 13  And I will punish her for the feast days of the Baals when she burned offerings to them and adorned herself with her ring and jewelry, and went after her lovers and forgot me, declares the LORD. I. To obey God we must surrender to God. II. One must obey God to understand the things of God. III. To obey God we must be honest with God and with ourselves. If every member of my church were just like me, what would we be like?

(WATCH THIS EPISODE ON YOUTUBE) Today, 98% of all federal criminal cases are resolved with a guilty plea. Why? "Half a loaf is better than none. . . . When we have a weak case for any reason, we'll reduce to almost anything rather than lose." In modern America, "beyond a reasonable doubt" as determined by a jury has largely been replaced by the discretion of prosecutors to punish defendants for exercising their constitutional right to a trial by jury. So much so, defendants in pretrial detention are agreeing to plea "bargains" at a rate so high, it's difficult to deny the obvious: Innocence is irrelevant. Reb is joined by Hannah Bogen, a Federal Public Defender in the Office of the FPD for the Central District of California, the largest public defense office in the federal system. Hannah shares her firsthand experience with indigent defense, pretrial detention, plea bargaining, and sentencing policy—a rare glimpse into the real lives of her clients in the federal criminal system, and public defenders' enduring fight for dignity and mercy for the people whom society often forgets...Until it happens to you. **DISCLAIMER: The views and opinions discussed in this episode are personal to Hannah and Reb and do not reflect the views or opinions of the Office of the Federal Public Defender.** A huge thank you to Hannah Bogen for her time and unforgettable insight for this episode, and a gracious nod to the Offices of the Federal Public Defender in Los Angeles and around the country. You shall speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron shall tell Pharaoh to let the people of Israel go out of his land. But I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, Pharaoh will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and bring my hosts, my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment. The Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring out the people of Israel from among them.” Moses and Aaron did so; they did just as the Lord commanded them. Now Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh. Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “When Pharaoh says to you, ‘Prove yourselves by working a miracle,' then you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and cast it down before Pharaoh, that it may become a serpent.'” So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the Lord commanded. Aaron cast down his staff before Pharaoh and his servants, and it became a serpent. Then Pharaoh summoned the wise men and the sorcerers, and they, the magicians of Egypt, also did the same by their secret arts. For each man cast down his staff, and they became serpents. But Aaron's staff swallowed up their staffs. Still Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he would not listen to them, as the Lord had said. Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh's heart is hardened; he refuses to let the people go. Go to Pharaoh in the morning, as he is going out to the water, and stand on the bank of the Nile to meet him. Take in your hand the staff that turned into a serpent. And you shall say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you, saying, “Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness.” But so far, you have not obeyed. Thus says the Lord, “By this you shall know that I am the Lord: behold, with the staff that is in my hand I will strike the water that is in the Nile, and it shall turn into blood. The fish in the Nile shall die, and the Nile will stink, and the Egyptians will grow weary of drinking water from the Nile.”'” And the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, their canals, and their ponds, and all their pools of water, so that they may become blood, and there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, even in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.'”Moses and Aaron did as the Lord commanded. In the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants he lifted up the staff and struck the water in the Nile, and all the water in the Nile turned into blood. And the fish in the Nile died, and the Nile stank, so that the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile. There was blood throughout all the land of Egypt. But the magicians of Egypt did the same by their secret arts. So Pharaoh's heart remained hardened, and he would not listen to them, as the Lord had said. Pharaoh turned and went into his house, and he did not take even this to heart. And all the Egyptians dug along the Nile for water to drink, for they could not drink the water of the Nile.Seven full days passed after the Lord had struck the Nile. Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord, “Let my people go, that they may serve me. But if you refuse to let them go, behold, I will plague all your country with frogs. The Nile shall swarm with frogs that shall come up into your house and into your bedroom and on your bed and into the houses of your servants and your people, and into your ovens and your kneading bowls. The frogs shall come up on you and on your people and on all your servants.”'” And the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out your hand with your staff over the rivers, over the canals and over the pools, and make frogs come up on the land of Egypt!'” So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt. But the magicians did the same by their secret arts and made frogs come up on the land of Egypt. Then Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron and said, “Plead with the Lord to take away the frogs from me and from my people, and I will let the people go to sacrifice to the Lord.” Moses said to Pharaoh, “Be pleased to command me when I am to plead for you and for your servants and for your people, that the frogs be cut off from you and your houses and be left only in the Nile.” And he said, “Tomorrow.” Moses said, “Be it as you say, so that you may know that there is no one like the Lord our God. The frogs shall go away from you and your houses and your servants and your people. They shall be left only in the Nile.” So Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh, and Moses cried to the Lord about the frogs, as he had agreed with Pharaoh. And the Lord did according to the word of Moses. The frogs died out in the houses, the courtyards, and the fields. And they gathered them together in heaps, and the land stank. But when Pharaoh saw that there was a respite, he hardened his heart and would not listen to them, as the Lord had said. Then the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the earth, so that it may become gnats in all the land of Egypt.'” And they did so. Aaron stretched out his hand with his staff and struck the dust of the earth, and there were gnats on man and beast. All the dust of the earth became gnats in all the land of Egypt. The magicians tried by their secret arts to produce gnats, but they could not. So there were gnats on man and beast. Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he would not listen to them, as the Lord had said. Jesus Followers Are Expected, by God, to Confess their Sins and Plead for Forgiveness {Penitence} Real Time MESSAGE SUMMARY: Penitence is not a once in a lifetime occurrence. Penitence is a daily and moment by moment, real time, occurrence. None of us is perfect, and not one of us always does the will of God. Paul, in Romans 2:4-5, is unequivocal in establishing the need for your continuing penitence and the consequences of your not repenting of your sins on a real-time basis: “Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.". Therefore, we all need to repent and return to the Lord. You can become cocky and arrogant in your spiritual life – “I am a Christian; God has done this for me.”. As the Psalmist tells us in Psalms 32:5 of his confession and his penitence: “I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,' and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.". You can rest on our perceived laurels; but these perceptions, of personal goodness and righteousness, can lead you quickly to a need for your penitence.   TODAY'S PRAYER: Most merciful God I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I might delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of Your Name. Amen.  TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, because of I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Inconsistencies. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit's fruit of Faithfulness. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f). SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV): Mathew 3:8-11; Romans 2:4-5; 2 Corinthians 7:10; Psalms 140:1-13. A WORD FROM THE LORD WEBSITE: www.AWFTL.org. Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. Get your Hosea Scripture Journal now. Our shout-out today goes to Joel Allman from Pella, IA. Thanks for your partnership in Project23. What does God do when the people he loves begin drifting away from him? He confronts them. Listen to our text today, Hosea 2:1-3. Say to your brothers, "You are my people," and to your sisters, "You have received mercy." "Plead with your mother, plead— for she is not my wife, and I am not her husband— that she put away her whoring from her face, and her adultery from between her breasts; lest I strip her naked and make her as in the day she was born, and make her like a wilderness, and make her like a parched land, and kill her with thirst. — Hosea 2:1-3 Hosea 2 opens with a powerful image. God speaks to the faithful within Israel—the "children"—and tells them to plead with their mother, a symbol of the nation itself. Israel has broken the covenant with God. The marriage relationship has been violated. God's words are direct: "She is not my wife, and I am not her husband." This language may sound shocking, but it reveals something deeply important about the way God relates to his people. Throughout the Bible, God describes his relationship with his people using the language of marriage. Israel was not simply a nation that God ruled. She was a bride God loved. That's why idolatry is not just disobedience—it is spiritual adultery. When Israel worshiped Baal and other false gods, they were not just breaking a rule. They were abandoning their covenant love. And the consequences were serious. God warns that if Israel continues in her unfaithfulness, the blessings that once covered the nation will be stripped away. The land will become like a wilderness—dry, barren, and lifeless. But notice something important here. Even in confrontation, God's goal is not destruction. It is restoration. The command to "plead" shows that God is still calling his people to repentance. The door is not closed. The covenant is not forgotten. God is confronting the sin because he still desires the relationship. This is how love works. Real love does not ignore betrayal. Real love calls it out so it can be healed. And the same principle applies to us today. When God confronts our idols, exposes our misplaced loves, or disciplines our hearts, it is not because he has rejected us. It is because he refuses to share our hearts with things that will ultimately destroy us. Today, take a moment to examine your own heart. Ask God to reveal any place where your love for him has grown cold—or where something else has taken his place. Then return to him. DO THIS: Take five quiet minutes today and honestly ask God to reveal anything that may be competing with your devotion to him. ASK THIS: Why do you think the Bible uses marriage to describe God's relationship with his people? What are some modern "idols" people turn to instead of trusting God? Is there anything in your life right now competing for the place God should hold in your heart? PRAY THIS: Father, search my heart and reveal anything that has taken your place in my life. Help me return to you with a renewed love and devotion. Amen. PLAY THIS: "Come Thou Fount"

The move is part of the Trump administration's “Economic Fury” campaign aimed at cutting off funding for Tehran's military and nuclear programs. Officials say the network used front companies and shell corporations to disguise Iranian oil shipments and move money through the global financial system.

Maxwell's legal team has signalled that she will invoke her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination if she's required to testify before the House Oversight Committee (or other congressional investigators) without pre-conditions being met. Specifically, her attorneys have said she will refuse to answer questions unless immunity from further prosecution is granted, the questions are provided in advance, her pending appeals (including to the Supreme Court) are resolved, and the setting is acceptable (for example, not in her prison facility). Without those safeguards, the firm position is that she will “plead the Fifth” and not participate.Because Congress has so far declined to provide the kind of immunity or guarantees Maxwell's counsel demands, the committee chair (James Comer) has publicly stated that she “won't answer any questions” and will invoke the Fifth. Thus, barring a change in those conditions, her testimony appears to be off the table and the committee may opt not to expend resources if she will simply refuse to engage.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

Welcome to Day 2846 of Wisdom-Trek. Thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom. Day 2846 – Wisdom Nuggets – Psalm 119:153-160 – Daily Wisdom Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2847 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2847 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. The Title for Today's Wisdom-Trek is: The Resh of Revival – The Divine Advocate in the Cosmic Courtroom In our previous episode on this grand expedition, we hiked through the nineteenth stanza of Psalm One Hundred Nineteen, known as the "Qoph" section. We sat with the psalmist during the terrifying, vulnerable hours of the night watch. We heard his wholehearted cry for rescue as the lawless ones drew near. But in the midst of that approaching darkness, we discovered a breathtaking reality: the enemy may be close, but the Creator is closer. We learned to anticipate the dawn, anchoring our exhausted souls to the eternal, unshakeable laws of the King. Today, we take a deep breath, brush the dust from our boots, and take our next deliberate step upward. We are entering the twentieth stanza of this magnificent, alphabetical mountain. We are exploring the "Resh" section, covering Psalm One Hundred Nineteen, verses one hundred fifty-three through one hundred sixty, in the New Living Translation. In the ancient Hebrew alphabet, the letter "Resh" was depicted as the head of a man. It represents that which is chief, the summit, the beginning, or the highest authority. This imagery is woven brilliantly into the fabric of these verses. The psalmist is exhausted from the relentless attacks of his enemies, and he realizes that he cannot win this battle in the earthly courts of public opinion. He needs to go straight to the top. He appeals to the highest authority in the cosmos, asking the Supreme Judge of the Divine Council to act as his personal defense attorney. Let us step onto the trail, and enter the cosmic courtroom. The First Segment is: The The Plea for the Divine Advocate Psalm One Hundred Nineteen: verses one hundred fifty-three and one hundred fifty-four. Look down upon my sorrows and rescue me, for I have not forgotten your instructions. Argue my case; take my side! Protect my life as you promised. The stanza opens with a desperate, deeply personal petition. "Look down upon my sorrows and rescue me, for I have not forgotten your instructions." The psalmist is carrying an immense burden of affliction. The Hebrew word for "sorrows" implies a state of being completely wretched, humbled, and beaten down by external circumstances. He asks Yahweh to look down from the heavenly throne room and witness his misery. But he does not just ask for pity; he grounds his request in his covenant loyalty. He says, "I have not forgotten your instructions." Despite the intense pressure to compromise with the rebel gods of the surrounding culture, he has maintained his allegiance to the cosmic blueprint. Because he has remained loyal, he dares to make a staggering legal demand in verse one hundred fifty-four: "Argue my case; take my side! Protect my life as you promised." To fully grasp the magnitude of this request, we must understand the Ancient Israelite worldview. The psalmist is standing in the spiritual courtroom of the Divine Council. The Accuser, representing the hostile, chaotic forces of the world, is standing against him, demanding his destruction. The psalmist knows he cannot adequately defend himself against these dark, supernatural principalities. So, he calls upon Yahweh to act as his Go'el. In ancient Israel, a Go'el was a kinsman-redeemer, a powerful family member who would step into a legal dispute, pay off debts, and advocate for a vulnerable relative. The psalmist is essentially saying, "Lord, step down from the judge's bench, walk over to the defense table, and act as my Advocate. Plead my cause! Fight my legal battle against the rebel forces, and redeem my life, just as Your covenant promises!" He is asking the highest authority in the universe to take his side. The Second Segment is: The Great Chasm of Mercy Psalm One Hundred Nineteen: verses one hundred fifty-five and one hundred fifty-six. The wicked are far from rescue, for they do not bother with your decrees. Lord, how great is your mercy; let me be revived by your regulations. As the psalmist looks around the cosmic courtroom, he observes the tragic fate of his oppressors. "The wicked are far from rescue, for they do not bother with your decrees." The rebel forces, and the arrogant humans who serve them, believe they are autonomous. They think they can orchestrate their own salvation through wealth, military might, and political deception. But the psalmist reveals the objective reality: they are incredibly far from rescue. Why? Because salvation is not a magic trick; it is a byproduct of alignment with the Creator. Because the wicked "do not bother" to seek out God's decrees, they have completely disconnected themselves from the only Source of life. They have built their fortress on a fault line, and their destruction is inevitable. In sharp, beautiful contrast to the distance of the wicked, the psalmist marvels at the proximity of God's compassion. "Lord, how great is your mercy; let me be revived by your regulations." The Hebrew word for mercy here is rachamim, which we have seen before. It is rooted in the word for a mother's womb, implying a fierce, protective, nurturing compassion. The psalmist says that God's mercies are "great," or exceedingly abundant. The rebel gods are cruel, demanding, and distant, but Yahweh is overflowing with tender compassion for His exhausted exiles. Because of this abundant mercy, he asks to be "revived." He needs the breath of life—chayah—to be pumped back into his fainting soul. He recognizes that God's regulations are not just rigid legal codes; they are the very mechanism of revival. The Word of the Advocate brings the defendant back to life. The third segment is: Standing Firm in the Face of Treason Psalm One Hundred Nineteen: verses one hundred fifty-seven and one hundred fifty-eight. Many persecute and trouble me, yet I have not swerved from your laws. Seeing these traitors makes me sick at heart, because they care nothing for your word. The psalmist reminds the Divine Advocate of the sheer volume of the opposition. "Many persecute and trouble me, yet I have not swerved from your laws." He is not just fighting a single adversary; he is facing a swarm. The persecutors are the earthly proxies of the dark realm, and they are relentlessly trying to push him off the path. But he testifies to his own stubborn resilience. "I have not swerved." He has not compromised his integrity. He has kept his eyes fixed on the "Resh"—the Head, the Chief Authority—and refused to bow to the idols of the culture. But this resilience comes with a heavy emotional cost. He confesses in verse one hundred fifty-eight: "Seeing these traitors makes me sick at heart, because they care nothing for your word." Other translations say, "I look at the faithless with disgust," or "I behold the transgressors, and am grieved." The word "traitors" is incredibly important. In the biblical worldview, humanity was created to image God, to partner with the Creator in ruling the earth. When humans abandon that high calling, and align themselves with the destructive, chaotic forces of the rebel gods, they are committing cosmic treason. When the psalmist looks at these traitors, he does not feel a smug, self-righteous superiority. He feels sick at heart. He is overcome with grief and nausea. Why? Because he loves the Creator so deeply, that it physically hurts him to watch people vandalize God's beautiful design. He feels the very grief of the Holy Spirit. He is mourning the fact that these individuals care absolutely nothing for the life-giving Word of the King. The fourth segment is: The Sum of All Truth Psalm One Hundred Nineteen: verses one hundred fifty-nine and one hundred sixty. See how I love your commandments, Lord. Give back my life because of your unfailing love. The very essence of your words is truth; all your just regulations will stand forever. As the stanza draws to a close, the psalmist

Heuermann reportedly faces life without the possibility of parole.Heuermann, 62, a former architect from Massapequa Park, New York, has been held without bail at Suffolk County jail since his July 2023 arrest. He is charged with the first-degree murders of seven women: Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Lynn Costello, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Jessica Taylor, Sandra Costilla, and Valerie Mack. The victims were allegedly killed between 1993 and 2010. Their remains were discovered in isolated areas along Ocean Parkway near Gilgo Beach and elsewhere on Long Island.Prosecutors have said the evidence includes DNA analysis connecting hair found on the remains of multiple victims to Heuermann and reportedly to his ex-wife and daughter. Cellphone data allegedly placed Heuermann in contact with victims shortly before their disappearances. Investigators also recovered files from his computer described as a planning document containing checklists that reportedly referenced limiting noise, cleaning bodies, and destroying evidence.Heuermann's defense had sought to exclude the DNA evidence and to split the case into separate trials. Both motions were denied. A trial had been scheduled for September 2026.Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer examines the legal and investigative implications — what a plea reversal from a defendant who has fought this aggressively typically signals, what the families gain and lose when a serial murder case resolves without a public trial, and what happens to the additional unresolved cases connected to the Gilgo Beach investigation.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The swiftly moving bat cuts almost invisibly through the darkness, silent to all but those who can hear its ultrasonic radar. What chance does a poor night-flying cricket—prized as a tasty bat snack—have?Let's treat this problem as if you were the Creator, faced with the problem of giving your night-flying cricket a chance against its predator. Of course, you could design the cricket so that it would stay in its hiding place at night, but then you wouldn't have a night-flying cricket. You could give the cricket the ability to hear the bat's radar, but that alone won't help the cricket if he can't get to safety. The solution our true Creator has invented to help the cricket preserve its life is another example of His engineering excellence. He has built the cricket with a single-celled bat detector that is wired into the cricket's nervous system. The detector is triggered by the frequency that bats use for navigation. When triggered, the cell fires off up to 500 impulses per second. These impulses automatically cause the cricket to steer away from the source of the ultrasound. The most impressive engineering fact about this bat detector is that it only works if the cricket is in flight and therefore vulnerable to bats. When crickets are safe from bats—resting, hiding, eating or preening—the bat detector cell doesn't fire any warning at all!The precise elegance that the Creator has designed into the cricket for its protection is a witness to His wisdom in caring for all He that has created. Learn more about that wisdom in the Bible.Psalm 119:154“Plead my cause, and deliver me: quicken me according to thy word.”Prayer: Dear Father, Your love is so great that it extends to all that You have made. Your love for me is deeper than I can ever know, but I thank You that I can know that You so loved me that You sent Your only Son for my salvation. Thank You for Your love. Help me to reflect that love to others. Amen.REF. Shreeve, James. The great cricket escape. Science 85, p. 83. Image: Brown Trig cricket, Katja Schulz, CC BY 2.0, Wikimedia Commons. A kaleidoscope of polyrhythms and post-dubstep. "Music was a way to speak Arabic… It's my way of being confident that I am, in fact, Lebanese," Jared Beeler AKA DJ Plead told Crack Magazine in 2022. Often framed as an Australian producer threading Arabic rhythmic structures through techno and post-dubstep, DJ Plead's music is better understood as tradition embedded inside contemporary club forms, where percussion and bass move as one. First surfacing in the late 2010s with releases on DECISIONS and Nervous Horizon, he has since become one of the most consistent voices in leftfield dance music, defined by the tactile clarity of their drum programming and Maqam-informed phrasing. RA.1028 opens with Bruce's "Just Getting On With It" from Livity Sound's ten-year compilation, a fitting nod to the kind of rhythmic experimentation that runs through the set. From Iran to London to Miami and back again, the 90-minute mix pulls a wide frame into focus, including several unreleased DJ Plead tracks. Whether it's the dry snap of hand-drum hits or sub-bass that lands with chest-caving weight, RA. 1028 is a reminder that rhythm can be a direct path back to the self.
