Anecdotally has been used for tendon/muscle healing; on the WADA banned list at all times (no TUE pathway currently). Gray areas exist in WADA criteria themselves (performance enhancement potential, health risk, "spirit of the sport"). THC example: banned in-competition with a relatively high threshold; removed alcohol from the list is an example of changes over time. Distinction between letter of the rules vs. moral/cosmic fairness; between intentional advantage-seeking and medical/recovery use. Testing realities & practical challenges Full USADA/WADA-style regimes require whereabouts reporting, out-of-competition testing, and significant lifestyle constraints (conflicts with the free-spirited, remote nature of trail/ultrarunning). Even gold-standard systems have loopholes (missed whereabouts, remote camps, short-acting substances timed around sleep windows). Half-measures are expensive, burdensome, and unlikely to deter determined cheaters. Middle-of-pack and age-group athletes face different calculus; many use legitimate medications (inhalers, etc.) that may or may not require TUEs depending on type and dose/threshold. Possible paths forward discussed Transparency and honesty should be encouraged rather than punished (both hosts respect that Hanes and McKnight disclosed BPC-157 use). Practical ideas: Optional "non-competitive / open" checkbox so athletes using regulated substances can still participate without affecting results/records. Tested vs. non-tested divisions (bodybuilding-style model). More education needed around legitimate medical use (TUEs, Global DRO checks). Focus should prioritize the small professional/elite tier where financial and competitive incentives are highest over age-group minutiae. Future regenerative medicine and longevity interventions will force further adaptation; sport has already accepted large performance gains from technology (super shoes) more readily than internal/medical ones. Influencers & broader culture Influencer economy adds complexity: financial incentives to promote products or share experimental practices; difference between sharing personal experience vs. recommending use. Transparency with clear caveats is preferred; pure anecdote-driven advice remains problematic. Societal issues (tribalism, algorithmic incentives, low scientific literacy) make clean solutions difficult inside a small niche like ultrarunning. Closing notes Both stress nuance over black-and-white absolutism Conversation aims to push the sport toward honest discussion of incentive structures rather than endless case-by-case outrage. Today's culture often promotes a comfortable version of Christianity—one that avoids suffering, sacrifice, and spiritual testing. But in today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef warns that easy-believism produces shallow faith: faith that may seem supported inside the church building but wilts when tests, trials, and persecution come. James tells believers to consider trials pure joy because the testing of faith produces perseverance. Spiritual endurance is not cultivated by avoiding challenges, but by facing them with Christ. Trials can either turn us away from the Lord or teach us to run to Him—and Scripture calls us to choose resilient hope in every circumstance. Dr. Youssef reminds us that when believers are rooted in Christ, it does not matter where they are planted. Joseph was planted in Pharaoh's prison, yet God raised him to become prime minister of Egypt. Daniel was planted in the lions' den, yet God lifted him to serve kings. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were planted in the fiery furnace, yet God used them to bear witness before rulers. When your faith is tested, do not give up. A former police officer once spent thirteen years in prison for murdering his own family. The evidence that put him there was blood spatter. The thing that finally freed him was DNA — unidentified male DNA from the scene that, once someone actually tested it, pointed to the real killer.That case is David Camm. And Alex Murdaugh's defense team just cited it by name.In a motion filed ahead of Murdaugh's retrial, his lawyers asked the court to release DNA recovered from under Maggie Murdaugh's fingernails — DNA the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division determined came from an unknown, unrelated male and, the defense says, never analyzed any further. They want it sent to Othram, the forensic genetic genealogy lab credited with cracking some of the coldest cases in the country.The Camm parallel goes deeper than most coverage noticed. The blood-spatter analyst who testified against David Camm is the same analyst South Carolina brought in to examine Alex Murdaugh's shirt — and according to defense filings, his first report on that shirt said the opposite of what he later concluded.It would be dishonest to pretend the DNA is a magic key. A trace under a fingernail can come from a handshake, a doorknob, a passing contact, and "unknown male" is not "the killer." The Camm case had stronger evidence: a garment an intruder left behind, plus fingerprints. A skin cell under a nail is a thinner thread. But the defense isn't arguing it's proof. They're arguing the state caught it, labeled it, and stopped.
