The Recruit-Me Athletic Scholarship Podcast with Brent Hanks
Episode 275 is a big announcement for my youngest son and our family. The name of the episode is "Well, That Just Happened". Sutton has verbally committed to Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri and will sign his National Letter of Intent on November 10th. This is the culmination of a recruiting journey that has ran through the COVID riddled high school and summer sports seasons and the work that Sutton and our family put in through these seasons. I review how Sutton started the recruiting process by setting up parameters to the college experience he might want and then he started building a list of colleges. Sutton sent introductory emails, his Player Profile and email updates as he performed at a high level and did well on his ACT test and GPA in high school. His baseball metrics like throwing velocity, hitting exit velocity, and his speed in the 60 yard dash and his athletic abilities translated into skills that coaches want and need to fill their rosters. Sutton gained attention from D3 and NAIA schools as he emailed those schools and talked to his high school and summer coaches to pin down schools that would fit his playing ability and educational needs. Sutton's unofficial visits and camps and showcases were integral to his options and final decision. I also do something I probably shouldn't do by comparing my oldest son, Parker, and Sutton to each other and then show some differences in their recruitment paths. Like I have said many times, if there are 1000 high school student-athletes, then there will probably be 1000 different recruiting paths taken. It's a podcast follow-up! A few weeks ago on the pod Bill and Chad talked about a guy who they believed slept in his car during a radio seminar they all attended in Nashville back in 2009. Well, that guy was Sam Alex and he joins Bill and Chad to set the record straight on his exact sleeping arrangements that weekend. The three also talk about how Country artists are nicer than anyone in the music industry, and is it possible to maintain a successful friendship with a celebrity? Check out Sam's website HERE. Follow Chad @thechadradio to find his podcast "That Just Happened." Follow Bill @dollabilltre. This podcast brought to you by HOMIE, the easiest way to buy and sell your home!
Bill cracks open a beer or two and is joined by Chad Mitchell, formerly of the "Mojo In The Morning" show in Detroit, and host of his own show in Phoenix, most recently at KOOL-FM and KMLE-FM. They talk about their 20+ years of friendship, the rollercoaster ride that's been their careers, and Bill is perhaps too harsh on Kim K. (not THAT Kim K., another one). Follow @thechadradio for all of Chad's projects, and click HERE for his new podcast "That Just Happened".

Ever meet people and almost instantly know you're going to be friends? In the words of Ricky Bobby, "THAT JUST HAPPENED!" I record episode 5 of B-Side while at a retreat for graduate students of color aspiring to the professoriate. My guests are Dr. Pranav Jani, Associate Professor of English at Ohio State University, and Elena Costello, graduate student at Ohio State University, two attendees of the 4th Annual Preparing for the Professoriate retreat sponsored by my alma matar Ohio State University. We reflect on a number of topics including student let actions at universities, tenure's influence on activism, how activism is done, the role of retreats in providing outlets for social change, hashtags, and the problems with BMI. Some serious talk with a healthy dose of jokes and levity.

HOT TUNA is founding members of the legacy rock band Jefferson Airplane, Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady. They have just released their first studio record in 20 years "Steady As She Goes" on Red House Records and will be performing on WoodSongs in a special acoustic performance to celebrate the album. From their days playing together as teenagers to their current acoustic and electric blues, probably no one has more consistently led American music for the last 50 years. The pair began playing together while growing up in the Washington D.C. area. While in The Jefferson Airplane, putting together the soundtrack of the 60s, the pair remained loyal to the blues, jazz, bluegrass, and folk influences of the small clubs and larger venues they had learned from years before. While in San Francisco and even in hotel rooms on the road, they would play together and worked up a set of songs that they would often play at clubs in the Bay Area and while on the road, often after having played a set with the Airplane. This led to a record contract; in fact, they had an album recorded before they decided to name their band Hot Tuna. With it they launched on an odyssey which has itself continued for more than 35 years, always finding new and interesting turns in its path forward. MOUNTAIN HEART is bluegrass super group that has been fearlessly revolutionizing the way acoustic music can be presented and played. The band's name has been synonymous with cutting-edge excellence in acoustic music circles since the group's creation in 1999. Widely known throughout the music industry for continually redefining the boundaries of acoustic music, the band is one of the most highly awarded ensembles ever assembled. Mountain Heart, or members of the band, have either won or been nominated for Grammy's, ACM, CMA, and multiple IBMA Awards. The band is out touring in support of their 7'th album, "That Just Happened", which was released in late 2010 on their own imprint, MH Music Group.
