Fine artist and commercial photographer/director Tim Tadder returns to the show to continue the conversation about AI generated artwork and what it could mean for the future of the creative community. During our conversation Tim talks about what initially attracted him towards the technology and how he began implementing it into his own workflow, why it seems to lend itself better to certain artists' aesthetic, that there is nothing new about a disruptive style of artwork that changes the creative landscape, why he understands the fear and anxiety of photographers and artists and even their combative attitudes towards his own work, his willingness to put himself out there and hopefully educate some people on the creative potential of this tool, his upcoming gallery show in Miami that will feature AI generated work, and the fact that this technology has already found it's way into the commercial and fine art landscape and is most likely here to stay. Renowned fine art and commercial photographer/director Tim Tadder joins the podcast to talk about his journey in photography and how he went from building an extremely successful commercial studio to finding himself disillusioned with the industry and work, and his subsequent transition into the fine art world as well as NFT space. During our conversation Tim talks about what it was like growing up in Baltimore as the son of a professional photographer who wanted something more for his son than a life in the arts, and how that ultimately helped developed a work ethic and drive that would propel Tim into the world of commercial photography and help him create not only a name for himself, but a look that would be copied by many. We also talk about how he's recently reevaluated his goals and desires in life and realized that he lost track of what made him fall in love with photography in the first place, and how he's been able to make the transition into creating meaningful art that finds it's way onto the walls of art collectors and investors alike. A few weeks ago a shared a conversation on Clubhouse with photographers Ben Von Wong and Tim Tadder and I received a lot of positive feedback. If you're not familiar with Clubhouse, it's new social audio platform. It's currently still in beta, so access is still limited. So grateful to be able to record a couple of these and share them out so you can listen in. Today I'm back with hosts Walid Azami (@walid.azami) and Mathieu Young (@mathieuyoung) in a Clubhouse conversation talking about creativity and my book Creative Calling. Some things we get into: We are the only species that trains the instincts out of our children. Inherently, we are creative machines, and tapping into that is key to not only success, but also more importantly, fulfillment Pulling the thread on the thing you know about yourself, whether it's inconvenient or not, you pursue it because you're following your intuition. Knowing when the burn the boats, but protecting against the downside Writing has been reborn in my life- radically important for galvanizing my thoughts, if you can't write it down in a way that makes sense to you, it's going to be hard to put that out in the world. Short term urgency, long term patience Seasons of life- we can't perform at the peak forever, the folks at the top of their craft take time to recover, heal, train and improve Once you find your thing, how do you execute? The creative challenges and tug-o-wars are universal- we all go through it. You're not alone. Enjoy! Have a question? Recently I joined photographers Ben Von Wong and Tim Tadder, along with hosts Walid Azami and Mathieu Young on Clubhouse to chat about "Things Photographers Spend Too Much Time Talking About". But this is not about photography widgets, lenses, and photo shoots. It's not even really specific to photography. This is about career choices. It's about following your heart. And of course - the title is tongue-in-cheek because it's actually about the stuff we don't talk about enough. Some things we get into: How to let go of goals that aren't serving us Short term vision vs long term vision Wandering off our path and how to listen to our intuition to weave back toward what we know we need to be doing The seasons of our careers and how to manage through the down cycles where we might not be firing on all cylinders So many good nuggets in this one. Please shoutout to @vonwong and @timtadder if you like what you hear. And if you're on clubhouse, follow me (@chasejarvis) and hopefully we can connect in a room very soon. Enjoy! Have a question? Tim Tadder, Founder & CEO, Tim Tadder Photography joins Executive Growth to discuss while he fell in love with image-making as a teen in his father’s darkroom, it was something he learned playing college football that really propelled his career. Hard work yields amazing results – as in the harder he worked towards his goals the more amazing the accomplishments. It’s a simple mantra, the harder he works, the luckier he got. As a father, it’s something that he is diligently passing on to his two daughters. Watching them learn that accomplishing anything worthwhile takes commitment, sacrifice and focus; inspires him to keep pushing towards his goals. Twenty years ago he left behind a career as a high school teacher and football coach, to follow a dream of being a photographer. He truly started at the bottom, freelancing for community newspapers, then as a photojournalist, and ultimately collaborating on campaigns for the worlds most iconic consumer brands. Each step up is a reward for the countless hours sacrifice put towards his goals. It is said that “hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard” and nothing could be more true. Now with each triple bid, he knows he is competing with amazing talents. Though he believes that to be distinctive, inspiring and innovative, requires that he put every ounce of energy into the projects awarded to their team. He draws upon his experiences as a teacher and a team player to plan better, problem solve smarter and push himself, the talent and crew to deliver the very best performances possible. Success is the cumulative effort of all the little things along the way that make the work great. He is still climbing, scratching and clawing his way towards being his very best. He still approaches every opportunity to make images both moving and still with the same passion as his very first assignment. The craft of creating is never lost on him. Today he is the best version of himself – he’s evolved into a producer, director, writer and photographer, a true visual communicator. He is leveraging all the lessons he learned to make shrewder choices, be more efficient, and amplify his effectiveness to communicate. www.timtadder.com BISTalk ran for over 2 years as a drive-time show on ESPN radio in San Diego as part of their experiment in ‘alternative’ non-sports business programming. "Designer as maker is what is celebrated in school, not designer as entrepreneur; designer as business problem solver. To me, when you're in the mechanics, when you have your hands in the work, it's all production and I make no distinction between doing that versus becoming a brick layer." Creative therapy. That's how I refer to this episode as it takes us down a path MoS hasn't been on before. Chris Do, Emmy award winning creative director, entrepreneur and founder of TheFutur & Blind studio, joins the pod to share his views on many topics including higher education, entrepreneurship, money, self-worth, depression, and how designers can win the battle of business. We come in hot discussing the often divisive topic of higher education and wonder if a college degree is important any longer. Chris also discusses the value of time and we why should understand that value is in the eye of the beholder and oftentimes, we aren't the beholder of the work we create. Lastly, we discuss the modern state of design criticism and how if designers want to win in the war of business, we have to start thinking more about strategy and less about aesthetics.
