Rich Miles was the bassist for Constatine Sakathi. He is currently the co-host of “Nothing Better to Do” and “I’m Not Acutually a Gas Station Attendant” podcast. We get REAL “dusty” with this one….. March 2020 will be forever known as the time that life on earth changed and not just for a day or a few days but for forever. In the USA we will often hear about how celebrities and famous athletes are coping. This is not to say they're not sacrificing or having to cope but what is more important to me are the stories of those who are not part of those elite groups. The playing field has been leveled and now, a good percentage of us, are on the same level. Rich, poor or in-between, we are all figuring this out one day at a time. Timmy and I know many of the same people and we were both living in NYC at the same time but we hadn't met until years later here in Los Angeles. He's a union electrician during the day and is the lead singer for his latest project, Los Angeles-based band, Let Rage! We discuss the challenges of trying to live your daily life in the age of the COVID-19 pandemic. Timmy has another challenge as he's been living with Type-1 Diabetes for a good part of his adult life. “Like a diamond in a sea of glass…” IS WHAT YOU WILL SAY ABOUT THIS NEW AWESOME EPISODE OF CINEPUNX!!! In this entertainment packed episode we sat down with long time friend of the show and local core-men Carp (Brian but who calls him that?) to discuss THE NEON DEMON and the films of Nicholas Winding-Refn (or rather the films we have seen) FIRST THINGS FIRST, BEFORE WE EVEN GET TO SOUND NOTES, WE ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE SOUND ON THIS EPISODE IS SUB-PAR AND WE APOLOGIZE FOR THAT! If you are new to the show we assure you that other episodes are of a MUCH higher quality and we encourage you to check them out! However, despite the sound not being ideal the conversation is SPARKLING! Big thanks to Carp for being a part of this awesome episode. We both loved THE NEON DEMON which appears to be a controversial opinion so if you hated it, we would love to hear from you! COMMENT BELOW- Not too many links we need to mention though we do want to emphasize how much we LOVED and think you should see THE HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE Josh mentions that two of his bands both have demos out, so check out ONLY GLORY and of course CROSSED KEYS Josh also discussed how the recent two show run of ONLY GLORY was the end of that band, but he was incorrect, because they are playing this month with TOKEN ENTRY in Philly! For more shows be sure to check out PHILLY HARDCORE SHOWS, and definitely head over and get your tickets to THIS IS HARDCORE FEST and the newly announced and very awesome BRUCE CAMPBELL HORROR FILM FEST!! Most of the other things we discuss are easily google-able, so you know, do that. SOUND NOTES: The episode is rough. Two things happened. One was that what we were hearing through the headphones was NOT what was being captured by the laptop. No worries, we will have that fixed asap. The second was that we had a fan on, and when I went back later to digitally remove the fan sound it left us with a hollow and robotic sound, haunted by the electronic ghost of the fan sound. In the end, the fan was even more present in it’s absence. Not really, it was a dull roar before I removed it. Ok so, THANKS FOR LISTENING, THANKS FOR BEING AWESOME, PLEASE SHARE/SUBSCRIBE/RATE/REVIEW/DOWNLOAD/LIKE The post CINEPUNX Episode 52:The Films of Nicholas Winding-Refn feat. Carp appeared first on Cinepunx.
Walter Schreifels and Arthur Smilios are most well known for being founding members of the late 80’s NYHC band Gorilla Biscuits, but that is just the tip of the iceberg in regards to their musical histories. While in Gorilla Biscuits, Walter was also in Youth of Today and Warzone. As the 90’s crept in, he formed Quicksand with members of other NYHC bands such as Beyond, Burn and Collapse and along with Into Another and Orange 9mm forged a ‘post-core’ scene within the early part of the decade. In the 2000’s, Schreifels had the bands Rival Schools and Walking Concert. Working from the same pool of musicians he knew from the NYHC scene, these bands featured members of Youth of Today and Bold. Walter’s current bands include the psychedelic rock band Dead Heavens and Vanishing Life, a band also featuring members of Rise Against and ..And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead. Arthur Smilios was a member of the NYHC bands Token Entry and Underdog as well as Gorilla Biscuits. He was a member of CIV in the 90’s, who brought Hardcore to a new audience via videos on MTV and opening for Kiss. In the present day, besides playing in the reformed version of Gorilla Biscuits, Smilios plays in World Be Free, a band featuring members of Judge, Youth of Today, Strife and Terror. Their debut lp “The Anti Circle” was released in the winter of this year on Revelation Records. SET ONE THE ABUSED - “Drug Free Youth” BEASTIE BOYS - “Transit Cop” URBAN WASTE - “Public Opinion” SET TWO CHANNEL 3 - “Separate Peace” RIVAL SCHOOLS - “Good Things” WORLD BE FREE - “I’m Done” (With Walter Schreifels on guest vocals)
