Pete Chramiec is a guitarist and songwriter living in Olympia, WA. He grew up in the 1980's Rhode Island hardcore scene where he co-founded the now re-united political hardcore progenitors, Verbal Assault. Following the closure of Verbal Assault's chapter one, he shifted his guitar wizardry to the Washington, DC based Rain Like The Sound Of Trains, an earnest and dexterous quartet with a multi-pronged political/counter consumerism mind expanding message. In this episode, Zach explains why being a metal and punk kid from the 80s and 90s one HAD to listen to Verbal Assault and why he was no exception. Pete and Zach discuss the early hardcore days and what "crossover" meant to them and their playing. Pete shares the history of his set up, his prominent influences and what the catalyst was for VA's reunion after over thirty years. Also, the CRAZIEST "one that got away" segment so far! So good to have Pete back on the pod. This episode Pete Chramiec and I stretch the very definition of what a podcast can be. For instance, together we prove that a podcast CAN consist of two late-middle age men looking through some old stickers and flyers in real time. We also demonstrate that if you space out a guest's appearances it really doesn't matter if we tell the same stories we've already talked about. Podcasting is a very intimate medium, I hope my voice feels like the voice of a friend even if we've never met. One thing I know about friendships, especially long term friendships: we tell and listen to the same stories a lot. So consider this episode a relaxed chill sesh with your friends Jason and Pete. We do cover some new territory: we talk about the Unwound shows we recently caught, Pete tells us about the last couple Verbal Assault tours they did and I talk about the power of mindfulness when dealing with mood disorders. It's a cool episode and I'm proud of it, so there! On this August 30th edition of The Drive Podcast, Over the weekend, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland was verbally harassed by a man while in Grand Prairie. For his first two conversations Ted chats with University of Calgary Political Scientist Dr. Lisa Young and Registered Psychologist Jenn Betts on the rise of and psychology behind political aggression. Afterwards Ted speaks with Calgary-based registered dietician Sarah Remmer on how to give your kids healthy lunches for back to school.
Over the weekend, video surfaced of Deputy Prime Minister, Chrystia Freeland, involved in a verbal assault where a man approached her and asked why she was in Alberta, while also uttering curse words at her, and calling her a "traitor." It's not uncommon for political figures to be harassed like this, but is it acceptable behaviour? Lisa Raitt, Former Minister and Deputy Leader of Conservative Party of Canada, came on to discuss this and whether or not there's a solution for this growing amount of hate towards our political leaders.
Marc and Joe Warmington tackle the verbal assault on Chrystia Freeland.

Freshly returned from his recent east coast Verbal Assault reunion tour, Pete Chramiec has returned to the TMpod as well. It is always a delight to catch up with Pete. Our conversation covers his experience on the VA 'two-er' (the band played two shows), his fear of having preshow diarrhea (he didn't!) and how wild it was for this 'humble carpenter' to take the stage again after all these years. We cover a ton of other stuff like house building, A-frames, my job at Amazon and the madness and tragedy of Putin's idiotic war in Ukraine. Welcome to another REV-elation! This time we have a rad talk with Tim Singer & Jeff Tirabassi of the band Bitter Branches. Tim is a Rev Alumni (Kiss It Goodbye, anyone??) and Jeff played drums for Jade Tree recording artists Walleye (who did a split with Damnation a.d. so there's another Rev connection) as well as played in a band with our very own Greg a couple years back called Easy Creatures. Anyway, Tim and Jeff have a new project called Bitter Branches and we are proud to announce that TODAY (8/10/2021) you can now preorder their brand new 2 song 7" single from Equal Vision Records. We sat down with them to talk about the band, the record & the future. So go order the new single, be on the lookout for an LP in the fall, and go see them on the road this fall playing with bands like School Drugs, Verbal Assault & more.
This week Jason talks with TM pod regular, Pete Chramiec about the recently announced Verbal Assault reunion shows scheduled to take place Sept. 2021 in New England. Pete shares his concern that the newly surging Covid-19 Delta Variant may lead to the postponement of the dates but as of now they are very much a go. He talks about his recent trip back east to practice with the band and how much fun it was to revisit their set after a silence of 30 years. The two get deep into the reeds with talk about the equipment used to get the VA sound and a rundown of guitarists (all from Washington D.C.) who most influenced his style and approach to playing in a hardcore band. Jason reminds listeners that Pete won 'Best Guitarist' in the 1989 FlipSide readers poll (Flea got best bassist, Fugazi best new band). Along the way he spills the recipe for ‘New Englands best clam chowder' and tells us why the pineapple is a symbol of Newport R.I., and why it has nothing to do with 'the swinger lifestyle'. It's mostly all fun with a little climate catastrophe and fascism talk too. Thanks for listening and for supporting the pod! Episode 11 is a little different. The first half is a conversation between Jason and Pete Chramiec. The two dissect the timeline and events of a West Coast tour Jason went on with Pete's band Verbal Assault in 1986. Pete goes on to share stories of a South / Midwest tour VA did with NYHC legends Agnostic Front a couple years later. The second half of the episode is something like a therapy session between Jason and his friend and collaborator Paul Schlesinger. In the course of the session Jason shares anxiety he's been having about the podcast and the discrepancies he has recognized between his deeply held values and his actions. Just to keep things totally hermetically sealed, in this episode Jason and Martin begin with talk about last episode's guest Pete Chramiec, and Martin's cursed relationship with his band Verbal Assault. From there the conversation veers to D.C. band Beefeater's first tour west and the New Method warehouse where they played a show with 7 Seconds. The two dissect the distinctions between 'Peace Punk' and 'Crust Punk' which leads the two to reminisce about their stop by the ant-infested barracks of the Sylmar band Iconoclast. From there it's tales of Pushead and more! Thank you for listening! Bumper music by Beefeater --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jason-traeger/support
Jason was living in Reno with Kevin Seconds in 1986 when Pete's band Verbal Assault pulled into town on their first tour, they have been good friends ever since. Episode 6's freewheeling conversation starts with a description of Pete's 1982 "Quest for MacKaye" bus adventure to Washington D.C. where he met Ian and Alec's mom before ever encountering the brothers. From there we go to him getting punched in the face by Boston hardcore royalty, the shape of Rhode Island punk in that formative period, revelations provided by early MTV and an extended recollection of the two month North American tour they went on together in 1986 ...though Pete swears it was 1987. Topics avoided in this episode: How Pete lost his virginity and The Fink family's rules relating to the consumption of sugary snacks. This is a fun talk. The first of many I hope, with Pete Chramiec. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jason-traeger/support

The Verbal Assault panel debates who should scrutinize law enforcement? The host and our diverse panel discuss racial injustice, racial slurs, and the topic gets beyond heated.

Words not only lead you on your path in life but they have meaning & purpose that will either bless or curse you. Proverbs 18:21 says, "There's life & death in the power of the tongue." That's why you have to be careful in choosing the words you say & the words you receive from others. On this show, we will talk about the compact your words have upon you or in the lives of others, tools to help you to choose your words carefully & much more in the episode called- The Power of Words! Family!!!! Appreciate y'all tuning into this episode. If you've been riding with me you know that Poolside Chats is a show based on bringing LA's dream chasers and goal diggers to you. But I also from time to time just want to rant about whatever subject I happen to feel like ranting about. So from here on out when I do that... I've decided to "Change the Channel". So I'm excited to bring you the very first episode in the Change the Channel series. In this issue I discuss folk who verbally assault people with the expectation that there should be no repercussions for the reckless words that they speak. I went Live on my Facebook page and got a lot of really great comments and feedback from my Facebook audience. Be sure to check out the video on www.Facebook.com/PoolsideChatsHollywood As always, thank you for listening! Please subscribe and like! Feel free to leave feedback and comments!
