“If you were gonna be a stripper…what would your stage name be?”   When you think about 1986, it's almost hard to fathom that we are 40 years away from it. Four decades away from perhaps THE biggest year in metal, and we're not just saying that because we were still young and impressionable, but because it was quite literally THAT epic of a year!    March, September, and October of 1986 gave us Master of Puppets, Peace Sells… (But Who's Buying?), and Reign In Blood (respectively), and that's only 3 albums of thrash greatness from that year!    There was also the (now classic) documentary “Heavy Metal Parking Lot”, showing a bunch of young metal heads pre-gaming for a Judas Priest show. Biohazard came out of late-'80s Brooklyn fusing NYHC, metal, and hip-hop before anyone had a name for it. Urban Discipline and Judgment Night made them global, turning street-level anxiety into breakout crossover without losing grit. After decades of lineup chaos and dormancy, the original four reunited, hit the road, and recorded Divided We Fall—a deliberate return to their core sound: short songs, big gang-vocal hooks, and lyrics about a fractured world that finally caught up to what they were yelling in the '90s. Critics mostly agree it lands: some call it their best since State of the World Address, others hear a strong, no-frills comeback that proves Biohazard still matters. Full episode on our Patreon. Vinnie Stigma is a foundational figure in the hardcore punk scene and the longtime guitarist of Agnostic Front; a band that helped define the New York hardcore sound. Their music touches on the realities of an early New York, social change and independent thought. Stigma's guitar work was central to releases like United Blood and Victim in Pain, albums that became cornerstones of the hardcore genre. Stigma was involved with Madball, a band fronted by Roger Miret's younger half-brother, Freddy Madball. He also launched a solo project under the name Stigma, releasing albums such as New York Blood and For Love and Glory. In 2024, Stigma published his autobiography, The Most Interesting Man in the World. In this episode Truth talks with Nate Homan,  author of “Diamonds and Blood : An Infamous West African Warlord's Bay State Jailbreak.”  Nate is a south Shore-born punk rock amateur boxer who graduated from Emerson College and has written for the Boston Phoenix, Metro Boston/NYC/ Philly, Front Page Detectives, DigBoston, and the Boston Institute for Nonprofit Journalism. The two discuss the plight of Charles Taylor – and his rise from college campus radical to mass-murdering megalomaniac.   This began the night he slipped out of the Plymouth House of Correction in Plymouth, MA and made his way across the Atlantic Ocean to his homeland of Liberia, and he led a brutal coup d'etat in 1989. In 1991, Charles Taylor bankrolled a ruthless rebel army in Sierra Leone known for the abundance of child soldiers who hacked the arms off of enemies and innocent civilians alike. By conquering the mountains along the Liberian border, Charles Taylor hijacked the international diamond trade for nearly 15 years. After a bogus election in 1997, Charles Taylor became the 21st Commander in Chief of theRepublic of Liberia.  Perched on a throne of blood, Charles Taylor stacked fortunes in Swiss bank accounts. He broke bread with world leaders, Fortune 500 executives, mercenaries, mass murderers, gem trading jihadis, and big time American televangelists.
