In 2013, artist Jennie Moran started an art project at National College of Art & Design in Dublin in the form of a college canteen called Luncheonette. Guided by Moran's vision of “ghostis,” her curation of the canteen, nourishing food, and—with the support of NCAD—Luncheonette became a food destination in the city, won awards, and created a convivial community space that lasted for ten long years. Her new book, How To Soften Corners, celebrates the success of Luncheonette and highlights Moran's refreshing philosophy of hospitality. On this episode, we speak with Jennie about how food can be used to diffuse the pressure of a shared space; the limits of understanding hospitality as providing the best customer experience; planning a menu that cares for the guest holistically; and nurturing our instinct to welcome strangers rather than giving in to the suspicion of people we don't know.Dyed Green is a project of Bog & Thunder, whose mission is to highlight the best of Irish food and culture, through food tours, events, and media. Welcome back to another episode of your favorite podcast, That Would Be Rad! This week, Tyler and Woody dive deep into the eerie world of mysterious phone calls, doppelgangers, and strange encounters with the unknown. Our story begins in early February 1993, a time when Bill Clinton had just taken office, Aladdin was still dominating the box office, and Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" was the anthem playing everywhere. It was a pre-smartphone era, where landlines ruled and mysterious calls could send shivers down your spine. Enter Gary Sudbrink, an Air Force captain stationed in San Antonio, Texas, who decided to take a surprise trip to visit his family in Long Island, New York. Little did he know, this trip would lead to a series of bizarre and unsettling phone calls that remain unexplained to this day. Imagine receiving a call from a robotic, mechanical voice that knows intimate details about your life, asking strange questions and making cryptic statements like "Keep your eye on the skies near Orion" and "We come to be within this planet." This is exactly what happened to Gary, and he had the presence of mind to record these calls, adding a layer of credibility and intrigue to this already mysterious case. As we dissect these calls, we explore various theories, from government interference and men in black encounters to time travel and interdimensional beings. Could these calls be a warning? An attempt to communicate from another dimension? Or something even more sinister? Join us as we unravel the details of this strange case, discuss its implications, and share our thoughts on what might really be going on.

The word “flush” is a verb, as in an activity that we do umpteen times a day. It's also an adjective that conveys abundance. Fittingly, Rita Wong's poem “flush” offers a praise song to water's expansive and unceasing presence in our lives — from our toilets to our teacups, from inside our bodies to outside our buildings, and from our soil to our skies. Rita Wong is the author of several poetry collections, including monkeypuzzle (Press Gang, 1998), forage (Nightwood Editions, 2007), and undercurrent (Nightwood Editions, 2015). Wong is an associate professor at the Emily Carr University of Art + Design.Find the transcript for this show at onbeing.org.We're pleased to offer Rita Wong's poem, and invite you to read Pádraig's weekly Poetry Unbound Substack, read the Poetry Unbound book, or listen back to all our episodes.
