In this electric episode, Brad Zerbo and Jaytriot take you on a guided tour of New York's punk revolution, from the grimy floorboards of CBGB to the thunderous rise of hardcore. They celebrate the Ramones' groundbreaking speed and raw down-picking that inspired Metallica's Kirk Hammett, while recounting personal stories of brushing shoulders with Joey and Johnny Ramone. The hosts spin tracks from Richard Hell, Television, Patti Smith, Blondie, Talking Heads, the Dead Boys, and the Dictators, showcasing how each band shaped punk's sound and look. Jay shares memories of CBGB shows in the late ‘90s and near visits to the Twin Towers days before 9/11, adding a poignant edge to the nostalgia. They wrap up with a nod to Agnostic Front and the hardcore scene that followed. From anecdotes about infamous CBGB bathrooms to the heartbreak of its closure, this episode is a loving tribute to a cultural movement that was loud, fast, and defiantly real.

Full episode on our Patreon. Vinnie Stigma is a foundational figure in the hardcore punk scene and the longtime guitarist of Agnostic Front; a band that helped define the New York hardcore sound. Their music touches on the realities of an early New York, social change and independent thought. Stigma's guitar work was central to releases like United Blood and Victim in Pain, albums that became cornerstones of the hardcore genre. Stigma was involved with Madball, a band fronted by Roger Miret's younger half-brother, Freddy Madball. He also launched a solo project under the name Stigma, releasing albums such as New York Blood and For Love and Glory. In 2024, Stigma published his autobiography, The Most Interesting Man in the World. The book delves into his upbringing in Little Italy, his experiences in the hardcore scene, and his passions outside of music, including cooking, acting, and martial arts. Stigma remains active in the music scene, performing with Agnostic Front and maintaining a strong presence in the NYHC community. http://patreon.com/livingproofnewyorkhttp://livingproofnewyork.com

This week: the 2nd in a newer series called “In The Shadow Of…”, where we compare obscure bands to a mainstream act. This is not about copycats or copybats, but more so about artists that have similar vibes to a band who has become synonymous with Gothtober; the one and only TYPE O NEGATIVE! Join us as we discover other bands who were influenced and inspired by TYPE O's gothic metal greatness. What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This is not a statement about bands trying to copy one another, but more that they have a shared sound and vision. It's been said that there is no originality left in rock n' roll and also been stated that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. As always, we hope we turn you onto something new!Songs this week include:A Pale Horse Named Death – “Shallow Grave” from Lay My Soul To Waste (2013)Frown – “Last Summer Days” from Lunar Brightshine And Fiery Splendour (2003)Unto Others – “Double Negative” from Mana (2019)Marble Orchard – “Liar's Tongue” from Building Monuments To Misery (2023)Seventh Void – “Slow Decent” from Heaven Is Gone (2009)Orphans Of Dusk – “Spleen” from Spleen (2023)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://x.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/inobscuria/og-shopCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/
I guess I'll never see Sepultura again. Tennis in Los Angeles has a few different interpretations. (I found out the hard way) I tried to take headshots but deserved a different type of “headshot.” Sympathy for McClusky. October 1 2024, everything is just going great! Definitely still a 1st world country. Last note about “1923,” I promise. (Well, at least until another fuckin season comes out…) Hot LA comedy gos, you get the inside scoop and an ear full of poop.

Send us a textGary Meskil is the founding member and driving force behind Pro-Pain, a prominent hardcore metal band that emerged in the early 1990s. Born in New York City, Meskil's early exposure to the thriving punk and hardcore scenes of the 1980s heavily influenced his musical direction. Prior to forming Pro-Pain, Meskil was a bassist for the hardcore band Crumbsuckers, which laid the foundation for his future endeavors in the heavy music genre. In 1991, Meskil founded Pro-Pain with the intention of creating a band that combined the aggression and intensity of hardcore punk with the heavy riffing and technical proficiency of metal. Pro-Pain's debut album, Foul Taste of Freedom, released in 1992, was a critical and commercial success within the underground music scene. The album's raw energy, socially conscious lyrics, and Meskil's powerful vocal delivery set the tone for the band's future releases.Pro-Pain quickly gained a reputation for their relentless touring schedule and ferocious live performances. Meskil's leadership and vision were central to the band's success, guiding them through numerous lineup changes while maintaining their core sound and message. The band's music often tackles themes of political and social issues, personal struggles, and resilience, resonating deeply with fans who appreciate the blend of hardcore urgency and metal precision.Over the years, Pro-Pain released a series of influential albums, including The Truth Hurts (1994), Contents Under Pressure (1996), and Act of God (1999). Each release showcased Meskil's growth as a songwriter and his ability to adapt to the evolving landscape of heavy music. The band's sound incorporated elements of groove metal, thrash, and even hints of melodic death metal, ensuring their relevance in a genre known for its rapid shifts and trends.Despite the challenges faced by many bands in maintaining longevity, Pro-Pain has remained a consistent force in the metal and hardcore scenes. Meskil's dedication to his craft and his refusal to compromise the band's integrity have earned Pro-Pain a loyal and passionate fanbase worldwide. The band's relentless work ethic and commitment to their message have solidified their place as one of the enduring acts in heavy music. In 2017, Meskil faced a significant personal challenge when he was brutally attacked and robbed in Belgium while on tour. The incident left him with serious injuries, but his resilience and determination shone through as he recovered and returned to the stage. This episode further highlighted Meskil's unwavering dedication to Pro-Pain and his indomitable spirit.Gary Meskil's impact on the metal and hardcore scenes through Pro-Pain iwww.BetterHelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and brought to you as always by The Barn Media Group. HardLore is honored to be joined by the Godfather of hardcore himself: Vinnie Stigma from Agnostic Front. A true pioneer of the genre and a living legend, Vinnie took us around his neighborhood in New York City, including the world famous former home of the legendary venue CBGBs. We learned all about his early days as a punk rocker, making the jump to hardcore, how much he misses playing in Madball and SO much more in these incredible 2 hours of the hardest lore yet. There's possibly no hardcore today without Vinnie and Agnostic Front's contributions to the genre, and there's certainly no HardLore. They say never meet your heroes.. They've never met Stigma. We can't thank everyone involved enough for making this happen. Vinnie, Mike Dijan, Tom Sheehan, our special guest co-host Dan Seely, Producer Andie Andres, PA Aaron Warman, and the incredibly talented Rob Menzer for bringing this insane journey to life. Episode 147 Matt Henderson -Agnostic Front, Madball and now H20. Matt Henderson would easily be in the hardcore hall of fame for all the work he put into the bands and the movement over the last 40 years. We had a deep dive into the Minneapolis/St Paul hc scene of the 1980s and then walked our way up to about Dynamo 1995. Hopefully we get a part 2 in and we can talk more about what happens next and all the production stuff he would eventually get involved with and much more.
