It's All Been Trekked Before #417 Season 13, Episode 19 Star Trek: Voyager #1.04 "Phage" Jimmy-Jerome liked the Vidiian and character development. He also was on a bit of a lag, which led to more interruptions of the others than would be preferable. Shane refers to the bad guys as ‘rascals.' Stephen found Neelix very annoying; must be Tuesday. Brian Markinson is a veteran performer who can boast multiple Star Trek roles on top of his already crowded resume. Finally, he wrapped up his time in the cosmos on DS9 in the fifth season episode "In The Cards" as the wacky Dr. Elias Giger.Besides telling stories about his time on Trek, Markinson explains how he transitioned from theatre into TV and film, how that led to working on "Angels in America" on HBO with Al Pacino and Patrick Wilson, his unique "X-Files" episodes, "12 Rounds Reloaded" with WWE superstar with Randy Orton, working with Woody Allen and Wallace Shawn, and much more in this frenetic chat with a highly talented actor who has seen and done it all. The VidiiansThis episode of 'Make It So' delves into the intricate narratives of Star Trek: Voyager, focusing on the compelling and dark storyline of the Vidiian species with hosts Baz Greenland and Geoff Owen, alongside guest Ian Buckley, a notable Star Trek enthusiast. They provide in-depth analysis of the Vidiian arcs through episodes like 'Phage', 'Faces', and 'Life Signs', leading to a comprehensive breakdown of 'Deadlock', noted for its suspense and exploration of alternate realities. Additionally, the hosts explore Voyager's missed opportunities in character development, particularly with Harry Kim and Naomi Wildman, and critique the series' final handling of the Vidiians, suggesting potential for more nuanced resolutions. The episode contrasts Voyager's storytelling with that of Star Trek: The Next Generation, highlighting unexplored arcs and critiquing the evolution of certain character dynamics, especially between Chakotay and Janeway. This engaging discussion celebrates Voyager's bold themes while speculating on how unexplored storylines could have enriched the series.

Lifesigns. Pashing in a 1950s car may be Tom's ideal date, but not for the Doctor! Liam and Suzanne chat about the personal growth in the Doctor, the sad life of a Vidiian, and coin a new term for something… What exactly is the Seska Subroutin…
Storylines come to a head this week on "Voyager", and boy oh boy it sure is an unsatisfying conclusion! First up, though, we get a delightful love story between the EMH and the show's first nice Vidiian alongside some useless drek in "Lifesigns". [content warning: there is more talk of end-of-life choices related to this episode] After that: is Tom really leaving and will Jonas finally be exposed in "Investigations"? "Now hear this. Now hear this. On this week's episode of Kirking Off, B'Elanna Torres is captured and her human half and Klingon half are literally separated into two separate individuals by the creepy Vidiian doctor named, Sulan. His plan is to try and stop the Phage, a virulent plague which drastically reduces the life spans of all Vidiians. He's after that robust Klingon DNA that resides in the Voyager's engineer. Prompting questions this week: Does Janeway have a moral obligation to level Sulan's facility while also offeringher extended assistance to the Vidiian Sodality? Does Tom Paris understand racism because he had a bad haircut once? Is there a capitalist solution for the Vidiian's medical conundrum? We present to you, Faces, from Star Trek: Voyager." “Now hear this. Now hear this. On this week’s episode of Kirking Off, some Vidiian organ thieves are trying to replace their rotting bodies with fresh new organs — namely the lungs of poor ‘ole Neelix. Kes thinks that Tom Paris is just ‘being a friend,’ and Dereth explains to us the difficulties of procreation in his current state. Does Captain Janeway sound suspiciously like Emperor Palpatine? Does Barclay owe the holodeck version of Deanna Troi child support? Lots to answer on this week’s episode, so grab your healthy organs and meet us on the bridge. Susan Diol's acting career spans dozens of TV shows and theatrical works, but Trekkies know her best as the Vidiian hematologist, Dr. Danara Pel, from two episodes of "Star Trek: Voyager" titled "Lifesigns" and "Resolutions." Before her time on Voyager, she appeared as a scientist named Carmen Davila on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" in "Silicon Avatar." However, her character didn't make it past the opening act for reasons you'll understand when you watch the episode. Susan was also one of the actresses initially considered for the role of Captain Janeway. Throughout her career, Susan has worked with Andy griffin, Dick van Dyke, Megan Mullaly, John Larroquette, Candace Bergan, Jerry Seinfeld, and Mark Harmon, to name a few. She has performed on Broadway and in LA and worked with some legends in the theater. We discuss her time on TNG and VOY, including her memories of Robert Picardo, wearing the heavy makeup and prosthetics to become a Vidiian with the Phage, and how some of her memorable scenes came together. Sci-fi fans may also remember her on Quantum Leap, as she was part of an alternate ending for the series finale, which we spend some time reminiscing about, too, along with other roles. Plus, acting onstage with Uta Hagen, Victor Garber, and John Cullum, stories of character actor Roy Brocksmith who Trekkies may remember from the TNG episode "Peak Performance," time with Chuck Norris while filming "Walker, Texas Ranger," her two-parter on "Night Court" where she almost married Richard Moll, and her date with Brent Spiner! Frank Wu is back! Besides being a Hugo Award winning artist, Frank holds a Ph.D. in Bacterial Genetics. He’s the perfect guest to analyze—and criticize—the Vidiian scientists and their method for finding a cure for that debilitating and disfiguring curse known as The Phage. With his genetics expertise, Frank also explains how unlikely it would be to successfully divide B’Elanna Torres into two individuals. Jean questions whether Klingon B’Elanna would actually know how to replicate a soufflé, and whether Human B’Elanna would have ever dared apply to the Starfleet Academy. Finally, Frank proposes a new field of science, Zoocryptoxenophrenology. Host Jean MacDonald with Frank Wu.

Faces. Like many of us (except for Suzanne!), B'Elanna Torres struggles with an inner dual nature. In B'Elanna's case, the struggle consists of finding the balance between her Klingon side and her human side. When B'Elanna's two halves are split into two distinct people, one fully Klingon and the other fully human, this inner struggle is acted out dramatically on screen between the two B'Elannas. In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Suzanne Williamson and Zachary Fruhling discuss the many faces of "Faces," from B'Elanna's dual nature and Chakotay's inner Vidiian to Sulan's inner Hannibal Lecter. A Vidiian gets a second chance at life and the Doctor gets a first chance at romance in Trek's first tale of hologram love NOT involving the things that Riker does in between bridge shifts. Will the Doctor still love her if she rejoins her race of marauding organ pirates? Will anyone ever mention to the Doctor that dating a patient-- especially one that is, uh, technically comatose-- is an egregious violation of medical ethics? Will Voyager ever stop making episodes about suicide and the right to die (No, seriously, stop)? Is “Lifesigns” good… or is it garbage?
The Voyager makeup department clocks some serious OT as the Vidiians rear their rotting heads this week and Peter and Joseph analyze "Faces". Are the Vidiians a subtly written race of intriguingly limited-yet-evil villans or a bunch of dumb, badly written neckbeards? One thing is for sure though - this is an episode where we ALL do it for the nookie.
The Doctor gets a Vidiian girlfriend in “Lifesigns”, and Tom Paris gets thrown off the ship in “Investigations”. Plus! What the hell does Seska even want? iTunes Google Play RSS
The Sequel. When To The Journey hosts Kay Shaw, Zachary Fruhling, and Suzanne Williamson wrote their first hypothetical Voyager feature film, The Progenitors (To The Journey 198: The Progenitors), there were always plans for a sequel, especially as The Progenitors left more than a few loose ends to tie up. From the Voyager crew being stranded aboard a 29th-century time ship to the sudden and inexplicable appearance of Henry Starling, The Progenitors created more questions than it answered. In this episode of To The Journey, join Kay, Zachary, and Suzanne in the writers' room as they aim higher, go deeper, and pull no punches while crafting their Voyager sequel, The Progenitors II!
