It's All Been Trekked Before #417 Season 13, Episode 19 Star Trek: Voyager #1.04 "Phage" Jimmy-Jerome liked the Vidiian and character development. He also was on a bit of a lag, which led to more interruptions of the others than would be preferable. Shane refers to the bad guys as ‘rascals.' Stephen found Neelix very annoying; must be Tuesday. “Phage” 30th-anniversary reflections Chakotay, Kim, and Neelix beam into caves on a rogue planetoid to search for dilithium; but they come back empty-handed. Not only do they have no dilithium, Neelix left something even more important behind: his lungs. With these vital organs now in the possession of mysterious aliens, the ship's new self-proclaimed chef will have to postpone the opening of his kitchen and stay in sickbay, where the Doctor has fitted him with holographic lungs. As the crew search for the aliens and try to retrieve Neelix's organs, Janeway is confronted with an unexpected moral dilemma. After being stalked by Vidiians, you may never listen to that famous song by The Police the same way again. In this episode of To The Journey, hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing continue our 30th-anniversary retrospective that will take you through all of Star Trek: Voyager, one episode at a time. In this installment, we discuss “Phage” and the introduction of a fascinating alien race in a story that hits right at the heart of Star Trek. The VidiiansThis episode of 'Make It So' delves into the intricate narratives of Star Trek: Voyager, focusing on the compelling and dark storyline of the Vidiian species with hosts Baz Greenland and Geoff Owen, alongside guest Ian Buckley, a notable Star Trek enthusiast. They provide in-depth analysis of the Vidiian arcs through episodes like 'Phage', 'Faces', and 'Life Signs', leading to a comprehensive breakdown of 'Deadlock', noted for its suspense and exploration of alternate realities. Additionally, the hosts explore Voyager's missed opportunities in character development, particularly with Harry Kim and Naomi Wildman, and critique the series' final handling of the Vidiians, suggesting potential for more nuanced resolutions. The episode contrasts Voyager's storytelling with that of Star Trek: The Next Generation, highlighting unexplored arcs and critiquing the evolution of certain character dynamics, especially between Chakotay and Janeway. This engaging discussion celebrates Voyager's bold themes while speculating on how unexplored storylines could have enriched the series.
When Voyager gets a mission from Admiral Philip Baker Hall, Harry Kim tracks down the ancient probe on an irradiated planet. But when the away team encounters bagMEN on the surface who give the Vidiians a run for their money, all it takes is some medical treatment and odor eaters to make their planet habitable again. Which adjustment might be too nippular for the costume department? Who has a dolly grip look? How much loaf can the transporter handle? Death! Existential crises! Vidiians! And, worst of all, children! Dear God how will the "Voyager" crew cope after this week?! First up: two Voyagers, two problems! In "Deadlock" Voyager has 99 problems and they're all...their own fault? After that: a recycled "Mork & Mindy" plot is meant to be a shocking twist in the ultimately awful "Innocence". Also this week: Janeway needs to listen to Janeway, the true identity of the monster that lives in the cave, and alien chairs! In this week's episode of Displaced in Space, Angelina and Sam discuss "The Phage," Episode 5 of Star Trek: Voyager. Listen as we unpack all the ways that Neelix is terrible, from the very beginning when we accidently victim blame him to the very end when he is so entitled all we can do is marvel at it. Along the way we explore the Vidiians and which one of us would want and need more than one Honatta. Also, we have our first, but probably not last, Emmy for Kate Mulgrew moment!
"Now hear this. Now hear this. On this week's episode of Kirking Off, B'Elanna Torres is captured and her human half and Klingon half are literally separated into two separate individuals by the creepy Vidiian doctor named, Sulan. His plan is to try and stop the Phage, a virulent plague which drastically reduces the life spans of all Vidiians. He's after that robust Klingon DNA that resides in the Voyager's engineer. Prompting questions this week: Does Janeway have a moral obligation to level Sulan's facility while also offeringher extended assistance to the Vidiian Sodality? Does Tom Paris understand racism because he had a bad haircut once? Is there a capitalist solution for the Vidiian's medical conundrum? We present to you, Faces, from Star Trek: Voyager." Ethics, morality and placing a good face on a difficult situation all feature in this weeks episode as the Vidiians seek to carve up our recording with technical difficulties. We also take a moment to remember Lt Peter James Durst Born 14th September 2338 in Brooklyn, New York Durst graduated from Star Fleet Academy in 2366 and was assigned to the USS Saratoga but was unable to take up the post due it its destruction at the battle of wolf 359. Durst was assigned to the utopia Planitia shipyards as operations security while waiting for another posting and became involved in the construction of the voyager. After the voyager's completion Durst applied for a posting on the new voyager starship and was promoted to Lieutenant. Lt Peter Durst was killed in the line of duty by the vidiians on star date 48784.2 while helping his voyager crewmates escape capture.
B'elanna is captured by the Vidiians and has her Klingon side and her human side split into two fully grown individuals. While the Klingon side is being experimented on as a possible cure for the Phage, the human side must grapple with the strengths and the liabilities that her Klingon half has caused her her whole life.

Vulcans. Klingons. Romulans. Orions. Since the dawn of Roddenberry's universe the creative minds tasked with populating it have tirelessly sought to fill the Alpha Quadrant with countless fascinating, layered and compelling alien denizens guaranteed to goose dramatic potential. But what about Voyager, the show that dared to begin with a blank page and build its own world? This week hosts Cam Smith and Tyler Orton follow the Caretaker's directions right back to the Delta Quadrant in order to analyze the most memorable species to cross Captain Janeway and crew's path. From early stand-outs the Kazon and the Vidiians, to Trek's first all-CG race Species 8472 and the waste-dumping Malon, the duo debate which of these original creations worked, and whether any of them would ever be worth revisiting in the future. Plus, as an added bonus, the hosts jump over to a galaxy far, far away in order to provide their non-spoilery thoughts on Solo: A Star Wars Story.Right-click to download.Read more »
Faces. Like many of us (except for Suzanne!), B'Elanna Torres struggles with an inner dual nature. In B'Elanna's case, the struggle consists of finding the balance between her Klingon side and her human side. When B'Elanna's two halves are split into two distinct people, one fully Klingon and the other fully human, this inner struggle is acted out dramatically on screen between the two B'Elannas. In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Suzanne Williamson and Zachary Fruhling discuss the many faces of "Faces," from B'Elanna's dual nature and Chakotay's inner Vidiian to Sulan's inner Hannibal Lecter. The Voyager makeup department clocks some serious OT as the Vidiians rear their rotting heads this week and Peter and Joseph analyze "Faces". Are the Vidiians a subtly written race of intriguingly limited-yet-evil villans or a bunch of dumb, badly written neckbeards? One thing is for sure though - this is an episode where we ALL do it for the nookie.
An episode that begins with a soup-related interpersonal mishap evolves into a full-blown study of the human psyche and its warring duality-- now with two times the Torres and 100% less Lieutenant Durst! Will Voyager's first foray into the subconscious earn a favorable verdict? Will the Vidiians clear the exceedingly low bar of becoming the show's best recurring villains? Can the podcast survive multiple Limp Bizkit reference jokes in the span of one episode? Is “Faces” good… or is it garbage?
The USS Voyager gets duplicated for let’s say the seventeenth time in “Deadlock”. Then, in “Innocence”, Tuvok gets marooned on a planet with a group of children. These plot summaries haven’t been very promising, Star Trek: Voyager. iTunes Google Play RSS
The Sequel. When To The Journey hosts Kay Shaw, Zachary Fruhling, and Suzanne Williamson wrote their first hypothetical Voyager feature film, The Progenitors (To The Journey 198: The Progenitors), there were always plans for a sequel, especially as The Progenitors left more than a few loose ends to tie up. From the Voyager crew being stranded aboard a 29th-century time ship to the sudden and inexplicable appearance of Henry Starling, The Progenitors created more questions than it answered. Voyager Costumes. Star Trek: Voyager contained an impressive array of costumes, from historical outfits in the "Janeway Lambda One" holonovel and "Fair Haven," to the retro-futuristic costumes of "Captain Proton," to alternate Starfleet uniforms, such as rather dapper-looking flight suits and rather less dapper-looking training uniforms. Add in the alien-of-the-week wardrobes of the Kazon, the Vidiians, the Hirogen, and countless other Delta Quadrant races, and Voyager provides a veritable Delta Quadrant fashion show from week to week! In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Suzanne Williamson, Zachary Fruhling, and Kay Shaw discuss the best and worst of Voyager costuming. The U.S.S. Voyager continues ignoring the main story in favor of sidequests: in “Phage”, Neelix loses something and the crew struggles to find it, and in “The Cloud”, Captain Janeway really wants some coffee and puts the ship in danger to get it. We’re with you, Janeway. iTunes Google Play RSS
"Faces" - Duncan Barrett, author and actor, joins Scott to talk about VOY’s Faces (S1E14). An early episode of Voyager means the bad guys are the Vidiians. Body horror, coming to grips with what makes you you, and that poor red shirt are all discussed Host Scott McNulty with Duncan Barrett.
Voyager Continuity. Voyager is sometimes criticized for not having the same degree of continuity as Deep Space Nine or Enterprise. But in this episode of To The Journey, hosts Kay Shaw, Suzanne Williamson, and Zachary Fruhling discuss various examples of continuity in Voyager, from callbacks to previous episodes to continuity with the rest of the Star Trek universe. Together Kay, Suzanne, and Zachary argue that, despite all-too-frequent use of the dreaded episodic reset button, Voyager has its own unique brand of storytelling continuity that serves the development of Voyager's overall tale. Deadlock. Voyager is known for telling stories that rely heavily on technobabble. Sometimes it supports the story, sometimes it doesn't. Season Two's “Deadlock” is one of those cases in which technobabble was inescapable, but also necessary. How else do you explain two Voyager's, two disheveled buns of steel, and Harry Kim's dopplegänger? In this episode of The Ready Room, we're joined by Larry Nemecek, Charlynn Schmiedt, and Brandon-Shea Mutala to discuss the oddity that is “Deadlock,” parallel universes, Vidiians, generational ships, Chakotay's weird baby comments, an inordinate number of script changes, and much more. In our news segment, we look back at 19 years of First Contact and 29 years of The Voyage Home, talk with Terrace Cassidy about Geek Nation Tours' new “Touch the Stars” program, and try to unravel the mysterious case of Enterprise stunt director Vince Deadrick's disappearing chair. Faces. We all have different sides that make us who we are. The Original Series explored this masterfully in Richard Matheson's story of Kirk's struggle to live with only his good or evil half in “The Enemy Within.” When Voyager rolled around nearly 30 years later, the writers once again took us to the realm of Jekyll and Hyde incarnate with “Faces,” the story of B'Elanna's struggle between her Klingon and human halves. In this episode of The Ready Room we're joined by Charlynn Schmiedt and Mariel Keeran to discuss what the story has in common with “The Enemy Within” and where it differs, how the loss of each side affected the other as B'Elanna coped with being fully Klingon and fully human, and how the writers could have taken a bold step on Voyager and turned the actions of the Vidiians into an incredible character arc. In news we examine the winners of the WeLoveFine Star Trek t-shirt design contest, get you ready for Star Trek Online's debut on Mac, learn about the return of Michael Dorn as Worf in STO, share our thoughts on the rumours of Joe Cornish directing the next Abramsverse film, and get the details of the Japanese Blu-ray release of Star Trek Into Darkness (are all the extras available in one set?). Plus, we find out which energy drink will be sponsoring the next Parrises squares championship.
B'Elanna is kidnapped by the Vidiians and is genetically altered into two beings, her Klingon and human halves. In some ways, for the human B'Elanna, it is here fondest wish. She has always hated the impulsive, angry Klingon parts of herself. But she may find she needs her Klingon half's strength as well.
While exploring a cave, aliens ambush Neelix and steal his lungs. Voyager tracks the thieves down and discovers a new race called the Vidiians. Once a thriving culture, a disease that slowly eats their bodies has turned them into a band of thieves, stealing and grafting organs to survive. Janeway can't get back Neelix's lungs without killing the man who is now using them. Her Federation ethics bar her from passing a death sentence, and she can certainly empathize with their plight, but as his captain, she also owes a duty to Neelix. What can she do?
The Vidiians. From the moment we saw them in “The Phage” to the mention of their cure in “Think Tank,” the Vidiians were an enemy to our intrepid crew. In this episode of To The Journey we tackle one of Voyager’s most horrifying villains, including what made them such a terrifying threat, our impressions of them as a race, and our respect for their survival techniques. Char makes us never look at Klingon B’Elanna the same way again, Tristan once again impresses us with his impressions—this time as Roxann Dawson with plastic teeth—and Lorrie might never use a quilt again without looking closely at the pattern.
The Vidiians capture B’Elanna Torres and split her into two people, one fully Klingon, and one fully human. The Voyager Bunch is joined this week by special guest panelist, Geroge Jackson, for this review of Faces. Also, Josh goes off the rails…
