In the heart of the Riverwest neighborhood is a weekly showcase of some of Milwaukee's most talented voices.Linneman's Acoustic Open Stage began in 1993, making it the city's oldest open mic and a staple of the local music scene.“Linneman's is an institution, and it's meant a lot to tons and tons of people,” said Chris Porterfield, frontman for Milwaukee-based band Field Report and an alum of the open mic. “It's a really special place. And what Jim and Marty have built is a great gift and service to our city.”Jim Linneman and Marty Hacker are longtime partners in life and nightlife. The venue's namesake rarely misses an installment of the Acoustic Open Stage, and he was there the night we were on hand to experience the energy of a community built on a shared love for music.“Each and every Wednesday we have a featured performer who gets a half hour,” Linneman explained from the stage as he introduced Ethan Munson, the night's spotlight artist. “And to be the feature here, you have to come in and take part in our Open Stage and show a love for music and the desire anyway to write your own songs.”In this episode, we take you inside a typical Wednesday night at Linneman's — a space for seasoned performers to connect with newcomers; and an eclectic mix of people, songs and instruments, ranging from banjos and guitars to keyboards and even a kazoo.#####Guest host: Rachel TarbyUniquely Milwaukee is made possible by the support of our Radio Milwaukee members.

In this episode, I sit down with singer-songwriter CJ Hooper to talk about building songs—and confidence—as an independent artist without rushing the process. We dig into how moving from Texas to Washington shaped his musical perspective, and why honest, story-driven country music seems to resonate no matter where you live.CJ and I talk about releasing Over Yonder, his second album just a year after his debut, and the surprisingly self-confronting experience of hearing your own voice back in the studio. We also get into early cassette-tape influences, playing in a band with musicians decades older than him, cutting his teeth at open mics, and slowly figuring out how his original songs want to live in the world. It's a conversation about patience, craft, and letting the work grow naturally—one song at a time.Music from the Episode:Burn it Down (CJ Hooper)Lookie Over Yonder (CJ Hooper)Rain Song (CJ Hooper)Thank you for listening. Welcome to the very first episode of Heart of Parker: Open Mic - a space for real conversations with the people who make this town feel like home.In this debut episode, I'm joined by listener-turned-guest Velencia Carter for an honest, funny, and deeply relatable conversation about motherhood and the beautifully chaotic seasons that shape us. We talk about the “Bluey” method of parenting, the viral “what would your child pack in a suitcase?” trend, postpartum bliss, and what it really looks like to balance it all as a working mom. This episode feels like sitting across the table from a friend who just gets it. It's full of laughter, recognition, and the comforting reminder that none of us are doing this alone.Support Velencia and Victor! 2 Define Promotions:https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61575521817562twodefinepromotions.comVC Total Custom Solutions:https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61580336070561vctcs.com

I just watched a documentary on Alexander the Great and tried to do what I always do — turn world domination into punchlines. From conquering Persia before age 30 to having the confidence of a guy who's never bombed on stage, Alexander might be the original “main character energy.”In this episode of Reality is Optional, I break down the wildest moments from the documentary and try to find the comedy in ancient warfare, ego, legacy, and what happens when you think you're unstoppable. We've got:Alexander tutored by Aristotle; conquering most of the known world before 32; elite military strategy and questionable emotional decisions; what happens when your army is tired but you're still chasing glory; and why every comic secretly thinks they're Alexander at an open mic.History meets stand-up. Empires fall. Jokes rise.#AlexanderTheGreat#HistoryComedy#DocumentaryCommentary#AncientHistory#StandUpPodcast

There's a quick run through the news up top, a big listener mailbag on the back end, and plenty of tangents along the way. We love our listeners, and this episode is very much for you. Mit Rados Hilfe entstand Ballgames Debütalbum «For the First Time, Again», das Ende Januar veröffentlicht wird. Wir sagen schon jetzt: Das wird gross.
Complete our 2025 survey: https://unpacked.bio/uihsurvey Book for the Jerusalem Marathon "Return, Reconnect, and Run for Resilience" tour: sababatravel.com In this Open Mic episode, Noam responds to a listener, Aviva's question: what does it even mean to say “Israel has a right to exist”—and who gets to decide that “right”? Noam argues that the debate is really about Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state. He makes the case that the more urgent conversation is about how Israel exists, not whether it exists. The episode uses the 2025 NYC mayoral debate as a jumping-off point to explore Jewish peoplehood, modern self-determination, and double standards.
