I'm late to the game as usual, but in this case, being late is better than never showing up at all. What am I talking about? The Woodworkers Fighting Cancer Charity Build. If you're not familiar with Woodworkers Fighting Cancer it's a charity started by our good friend Marc Spagnuolo - The Wood Whisperer to help raise funds and awareness about research to fight a disease that has probably touched each and everyone of us at some time in our lives. The most recent fund raiser involves individuals building a Rocking Horse from free downloadable plans available through WOOD Magazine. The project was one that could be accomplished with a minimal number of tools and wasn't so much a challenge that even brand new woodworkers would feel comfortable tackling it. The build was a lot of fun and I learned a few things along the way...especially an important lesson about spray adhesives and my disdain for jigsaws. But you'll hear and see more about that in the video. For more information on Woodworkers Fighting Cancer, including how you can donate directly, visit www.thewoodwhisperer.com/wfc/. We're close to wrapping up SAFETY WEEK 2010 and I stumbled across a great article at WOOD Magazine's website. Not one to let a good thing slide by, I asked the folks at WOOD for permission to share it with all of you. Thankfully they said yes! Today's episode is based on the 12 point checklist mentioned in Shop Safety Checklist. It's a great read and something worth checking out to make sure you're working safe too. A huge thanks to WOOD Magazine for permission to share this with all of you!

His ability to present just about any topic in a simple and entertaining way keeps me coming back every time. In the episode we discuss Jim's many roles in the woodworking community (The Woodworking Shows, Wood Magazine, Weekend with Wood) and a few other things about Jim and his working life. If you have questions for Jim or myself, feel free to comment, Skype, or use the contact form. Be sure to check out the contact info at the end of the video for other way to contact the show too ...

One more trip back to Des Moines Iowa for the 2013 Weekend with WOOD conference. Today's episode features a class taught by George Vondriska titled "Logs to lumber". Wondering what the class was all about? The title isn't a funny play on words, the class was literally a lesson on how to take small to medium-sized logs and create usable lumber in your own shop. The beauty of this class was in the simplicity of the technique and realizing you don't need a monster band saw to make lumber from local trees or maybe one that has important meaning. If you're not familiar with George, he's the host of the Woodworkers Guild of America - www.wwgoa.com. George has a ton of great information and his presentation of this class was fantastic. A huge thanks again to George and also to the folks at WOOD Magazine for the opportunity to attend the conference. Help support the show - please visit our advertisers

Another trip back to Des Moines, Iowa this week. The 'Weekend with WOOD' conference was a wealth of information for all the attendees, especially myself. High on my list of classes were anything that had to do with finishing. When I saw Gary Rogowski was to be teaching a finishing class I knew I had to sign-up. Today's snippets are all from Gary's "Three Simple Finishes" class on Saturday morning and as I mention in the video, there were plenty of moments where I was so wrapped up in the discussions that I forgot to film some of the best information. Thanks again to the folks at WOOD Magazine and especially to Gary Rogowski for the experience! For more from the folks at WOOD Magazine visit www.woodmagazine.com. Great news! That momentary interruption I was talking about is coming to an end sooner than I anticipated. The adjustment to the new school year is going great and we're practically back to a regular schedule. So this means it's time for me to get off my butt and start producing new content. A new full length episode is on its way next week and in the mean time I wanted to share this great shop tip I found in the WOOD Magazine Newsletter I get each week.
