On today's new episode, the Bayer siblings welcome their delightful friend, writer and actor Zora Bikangaga! They ask whether their childhood selves would have found their adult selves cool? (Spoiler alert: They can stay up as late as they want and eat candy whenever they want, so...) Plus, they get into the ways they tried to act cool as kids i.e. one overall strap down, enormous pants that made it hard to walk, etc. Along those lines, Zora gets into a prolonged prank he did in college that years later ended up making him a perfect fit for the "I Love That For You" writers room! Plus Jonah reminisces about his childhood days of listening to NYPD Blue like it was on the radio, and they dig into the controversy of showing Dennis Franz's bare butt on TV (Which obviously Jonah couldn't see, but could hear?) Finally, in a rousing game of CONGRATULATIONS, YOU PLAYED YOURSELF: PRODUCT EDITION, the trio discusses what they will miss most out of the recently discontinued Starry Soda, McDonald's McCafé baked goods or—the only one most of them remember—Fruit Striped Gum. So be cool and listen to this episode!!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Time to pull out the ol What If machine, because the fellas of improv group Dopetown 3000 have a theory that will potentiall change how you think about your entire life. The theory? What if Kanye West's conservative pivot and erratic behavior are part of an elaborate piece of performance art? What if Kanye has been planning this every step of the way? What if we're all just locked in a room with a coyote, metaphorically? Greg and Zora know a whole lot about the history of performance art, about Kanye lyrics, and about how to freakin RAP. And you'll get all that and more in this surprisingly sweet episode.
Maggie sits down with writer and actor Zora Bikangaga to discuss the social complexities of interracial friendships and tips on how to be happy for other's success.

Lorraine and Sarah welcome writer/performer/tall person Zora Bikangaga on to share some shame! Zora got learnt up on Nollywood (Nigerian Hollywood) and comes bearing lots of movie recs, along with thoughts on colorism, Hollywood’s fetishizing of Africa, and Jennifer Lawrence’s career trajectory/emotional maturity. Trigger warning for diehard Lawrence-heads: this gets pretty cutting.
This week Shaughn and Ellen welcome Zora Bikangaga (Drunk History, improv, This American Life) to whine about the lack of manners particularly in respect to elevators and hosting. The "Grape of Thrones" is Zinfandel: the group hug of wine! Learn the roots of this American variety. It's not a pink drink! To counteract Zora's mannerly whines, Ellen and Shaughn sourced a wine from England, where proper decorum is very important! They pop a 2013 Wiston Estate Cuvee, a sparkling wine from South Downs.Zora and Shaughn get into their shared northern California roots, then dive into the whine. Hot tip: wait for people to get off the elevator before barreling in, and if you are hosting people in your home, offer them something to drink! Zora also has some thoughts on how to have a good party. They also discuss how global warming is warming up England enough to grow wine grapes, particularly with its soil which is similar to Champagne's limestone. The lightning round covers what the Queen drinks, English latitude lines, what grape England grows most and which way the Sussex slopes face. Lorraine & Sarah share the shame with actress & UCB writer-performer, Ele Woods. The incredibly warm and not-spooky-at-all Black Boo & Jew Boo for this episode hop on the mic to get real with some storytelling. Zora Bikangaga tells all about the Ludacris fan he dated - the one that got away and Raphael Bob-Waksberg shares a piece he wrote about phrases he has never ever ever heard a Jewish person say like “I’m on cloud 9!” and “I can't complain.”
Zora Bikangaga may possibly be our most interesting guest to date. This man has been on "This American life" because he pretended to be an Ugandan international student for an entire semester. After committing to the bit for so long he followed his new found love of acting and writing down to Los Angeles. I say down because he's from Northern California. Mr. B was a middle school teacher and a social issues theatre performer and talks about using some those real situations to create characters as well as write premises. Which just goes to prove that living a real life is just as important to comedy as being a comedian.Zora wrote, created and starred in HOA alongside the likes of Horatio Sanz and Cheri Oteri, he freelances for Cracked, he has worked on Drunk History, Adam Ruins Everything and he is a writer for the Upright Citizens Brigade maude team "New Deal".Listen to the this American life episode HERECheck out the trailer for HOA HEREGet tickets to see his maude team HERE See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
We have another monster episode that is being broken into 2 parts. In part 1 we meet Zora Bikangaga. He was born in Freson, CA then moved north of the bay area in a less than diverse town. Hear about being 1 of 2 African American kids in school. Zora also tells us about a social experiment he did in college where he pretended to be a Ugandan national who moved to the U.S. to go to school, hear how long he kept of the ruse. If you have any stories you like to share, please do so on Facebook or email us at lowerthebarpodcast@gmail.com and your story could make it on a future podcast.
