Business school graduate Darren Spicer studied the success factors of the growing regional coffee sector while managing a unit of drive-thru coffee chain Dutch Bros. He and his two co-founders developed the drive-thru specialty beverage concept Clutch Coffee Bar, which was launched in 2018 in a second-generation drive-thru location in Mooresville, North Carolina.   “We succeed because of our commitment to offering quality and a well-trained staff that remains focused on the guest,” says Darren. “Mastering the brief conversation is what we like to call our approach to guest service. It has become our motto.”   The 450- to 850-square-foot walk-up and drive-thru kiosks are popular havens for those looking for freshly roasted coffee, cold brews, specialty energy drinks, smoothies, and shakes. Growth came quickly, with the concept's second through fifth locations in second-generation takeovers that required little remodeling. The three owners each assumed responsibility for different areas of the business, allowing Clutch Coffee Bar to succeed in operations, marketing, and expansion more quickly. With 10 units and plans for nine more, Clutch Coffee Bar is quickly becoming one of the fastest-growing concepts in the Carolinas.

It is this simplicity and vibrancy that now drives today's returning Guest to the show, Charles Babinski at his new shop, Cafe 143 in Sydney. Charles Babinski is the former U.S. Barista Champion and the co-founder and former co-owner of the legendary G&B Coffee and Go Get Em Tiger in L.A. Our Strolling Strasburg series comes to an end with today's conversation. Olivia Hilton & I met at Nancy's Coffee Bar to have a look back at all that she's accomplished in the last five years she's been with the Town of Strasburg. We talked about events, partnerships, big projects, and she spoke about her pride of staff and the community as a whole. We talked about the new adventure she will begin on August 14 in Mount Jackson. She will work with the current town manager Neil Showalter until his retirement on March 1, after which she will take over as town manager. She told us about her excitement to begin this new chapter and talked about the potential she sees in Mount Jackson. We are still trying to decide what our next radio project will look and sound like and would LOVE to have feedback. Jimmy is still away from the mic, but Aaron was joined by another fellow podcaster all the way from VA via zoom - from the Enlightened Ones Podcast, Deuce Jones. This episode we discuss the insufferable Limewire DJ tags that were on every one of our burnt rap CDs in the 2000s. Sports drafts are the Met Gala for men who secretly fan boy over athletes (and apparently do not fan boy in front of some of the greatest athletes of all time).July 4th is a special holiday, but let's get back to celebrating our freedom and working towards being a country of self-governing individuals and not a country to loved to celebrate politicians. Ghost peppers and Carolina Reapers are the biggest flexes to guys in cargo shorts and V necks. Not being the person that brings buns is also a flex apparently. Wilford Brimley is looking down from the heavens and judging you for not intermittently fasting through breakfast. True Classic Tees, hear me out: Stop trying to give guys their version of fake eyelashes. We know we aren't fit, get off it already. Plenty more rambling, serious and fun, throughout this conversation. Creating a moment of delight and excellence is what we all want to do when we set up our shops and make coffee for others. We also want to be delighted ourselves with the things we create and feel a sense of pride in each and every drink. Given the range of beverages we serve, that is pretty rare to find. But at least one place manages to strike this balance and has been doing so with singular focus for the past 8 years. Today we get to talk with the owner of the Award winning cafe, Endorffeine in Los Angeles, CA, Jack Benchakul! Jack is a biochemist who turned to small business to find more meaning and fulfillment in work. This set him on a path to pursue craft first through the pastry arts and finally in the coffee industry after one life changing cup of coffee.  Jack learned all he could at home then as a barista before starting Endorffiene with his cousin Ttaya Tuparangsi in 2015 with the goal to pursue a balanced and refined coffee experience unlike any that was currently available. Jack's integrity, knowledge of craft and science, and constance in this pursuit has not only gained Edorffeine nority from famous food writers like Jonathan Gold and Bill Addison, gained Endorffeine, but also recognitions such as "Best Coffee Shops in the U.S. from Food and Wine and on of the "101 Restaurants, Dishes, People, and Ideas from The LA Times. Beyond these things, Endorffeine is firmly established in the coffee community and garners the respect of their industry peers world wide.  In today's conversation with Jack we will be exploring the story of Endorffeine and their unique approach to creating beauty, balance, and community one cup of coffee at a time.  We cover:  Jacks Journey from Biochemistry to pastry to coffee The coffee epiphany that set his course Establishing Endorffeine and its mission Staying consistent over time Pursuing customer facing work as an introvert Values based Menu curation and refinement  What is the “deep fight” Pride in operation and ownership What the pandemic revealed Connecting with customers Advice to other owner on integrity and patience Links: www.endorffeine.coffee Instagram: @endorffeine    Related episodes: 375 : Founder Friday! w/ Roland Horne of WatchHouse 359 : Founder Friday! w/ Nigel Price of Drip Coffee Makers NYC 252 : Founder Friday w/ Klaus Thompson of the Coffee Collective, Denmark   Interested in leveling up your coffee shop or setting up 1:1 coaching? Maaaaan this is a big one for me as I have been a fan of MOJOE for many years, and when we sat down to do this they informed me that I had never interviewed them before. Which is something I can't even fathom given the amount of times I have seen them live and how much I have listened to them and such. But I guess that is the case and this edition of Talk So Real is my first real talk with two of my favorites. MOJOE was a walking revolution from San Antonio back in the day. A live band hip hop experience that had it all and could not be questioned. The title of their Classic.Ghetto.Soul album summed it all up, and after a bit of a hiatus (in which rapper Easy Lee started a group called Third Root with MexStep and DJ Chicken George) they are back with a new album about to drop called Ancient Future Soul, which also sums things up. The guys played the record for me and a few other good folks and then we sat down to do the interview in the lovely upstairs portion of Simona's Coffee Bar in the Colton House Hotel on South Congress here in Austin. It really went down as they say. Word to Raf. On this episode we discuss such things as Beyonce and Solange's father Matthew Knowles signing them, Sun Ra, Johnna Lister, why sometimes people including myself and themselves need a hiatus, real soul music, Texas music, the game, we cover a lot of things and I think you will enjoy this one. Please tell a friend to tell a friend to dial into this Talk So Real movement, and thank you so much for your support.

Today on the show we are at Dry Stack and are helping them celebrate their 1 year anniversary of serving Danville. They call it a birthday, but we don't know how to determine if it is a BIRTHday or anniversary. Either way, we are celebrating! We discuss having birthday parties and who should actually be celebrated. The question we have is - if the mother did all the work of giving you a birthday, how is it a celebration if she has to be responsible in part for the clean up?We discuss some of the gifts we would have died to have and whether or not it is practical to use our adult money to get them.Fossil watches are a thing of the past, but are they still relevant or have we moved on to bigger and slightly less impressive things? We get a weather update from THE Bootleg Meteorologist that is crucial for the Labor Day weekend ahead. Are friendships worth ruining over a Rainbow vacuum? Should we bring back potpourri? All of these things are discussed on today's episode. We hope you enjoy it!Subscribe to the show on Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen to podcasts.
