In this episode, we continue our discussion on the 2010 ADAS scoping requirements including when to comply with the International Symbol of Accessibility (ISA). People think you need to have an ISA at every door. If it's a new building, all doors must be accessible and 60% of entrances have to be accessible. But if they aren't, then you have to have a sign. Additionally, compliant toilet rooms or bathing rooms shall be identified by an ISA if not all are accessible. We also discuss the scoping requirements for dressing rooms and locker rooms, transient lodging facilities such as a condo, and self-service storage facilities. We touch on the alteration guidelines including the special provisions for technically infeasible facilities.  In this episode, you will hear: What requires an International Symbol of Accessibility (ISA) Dressing room, fitting room, or locking room compliance and alterations Accessibility requirements for transient lodging facilities and alteration guidelines Guest room and storage requirements Accessible route requirement for self-service storage facilities Swimming pools, wading pools, and spa: accessible means of entry Vertical dispersion and visibility requirements for stadiums and assembly seating Links: For more announcements and discussion please join the FREE ADA Shop Talk Community  Here: https://ada-shop-talk-community.mn.co/   Need Accessibility CEU's? The key is to start scoping when you're doing any design, inspection, evaluation, or anything like that. So far, we've drilled down from what's your job, what type of work it is, Title II and Title III. Now, we get into the actual nuts and bolts of what scoping is. This week, we continue our discussion on the 2010 ADAS scoping requirements. Now, another important thing when looking at the ADA is to not just look at the ADAS, but also, the ADA itself because some of the requirements don't show up in the standards, but they show up in the ADA.  We also discuss some changes between the 1991 standard and the 2010 standard as well as distinguish incremental changes from supplemental requirements. In terms of new construction, remember, there's no excuse for not complying. There are no ifs, and's, or buts about it. Hence, these are things you need to carefully consider. In this episode, you will hear: ADA requirements Incremental changes vs. supplemental requirements Some requirements in the 2010 standard not found in the 1991 standard When to use the term structural impracticality vs. structural infeasibility Links:   For more announcements and discussion please join the FREE ADA Shop Talk Community  Here: https://ada-shop-talk-community.mn.co/   Need Accessibility CEU's? The overlying theme for all buildings in the United States is that you must improve access if it's readily achievable and where compliance is determined based on the 2010 ADA standards.  We're also giving you a quick scenario looking at a two-story, non-elevator, AD room hotel built in 1966, located on a beachfront with 119 parking stalls. At the end of the day, what applies is whichever provides the greatest level of accessibility. When you're doing scoping, especially in a private firm, it's often difficult to determine what changes are permitted because there could be a lot of work done that didn't get a permit. Even the work that was permitted often gets modified or changed during construction and it's not always reflected in the plans. And that can be very difficult when you're doing an evaluation of a property when there was work done and there's no documentation of it.  In this episode, you will hear: What changes are permitted and not permitted since construction What are subject to suit or fine against the entity The three-year period for disproportionality Using the 2010 scoping standard for the Title III facility if the start date is after March 15, 2012 Doing an accessibility plan view for new projects or alteration Local codes that provide a higher level of access to the ADA Links: For more announcements and discussion please join the FREE ADA Shop Talk Community  Here: https://ada-shop-talk-community.mn.co/   Need Accessibility CEU's?
