PREVIEW 6: Investigating Mysterious Martian Slope Streaks John Batchelor speaks with Bob Zimmerman about unexplained geological features on Mars called slope streaks. These features resemble stains or avalanches but do not alter topography and lack debris. They sometimes even flow uphill. Theories suggest causes like dust or brine, but the exact mechanism is unknown. The Curiosity rover recently captured an image of a potential slope streak, offering a unique opportunity to study them closely and understand their origin. 1954
The Winter Olympics are just months away in Italy, and New Zealand snow sports athletes are hoping a new 2.3 million dollar dry slope in the Cardrona Valley will be a game changer for some.
Despite advancements in surgical techniques, the recurrence rate of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture after reconstruction remains between 2% and 20%. An increased posterior tibial slope (PTS) is associated with higher ACL rupture and reconstruction failure rates. In conclusion, ACW-HTO combined with ACL reconstruction shows promising long-term outcomes, significantly reducing PTS and improving knee stability and function with an acceptable complication rate. What happens when four pilots discuss IFR ground school and nobody really knows what they're talking about? Episode 143 delivers a chaotic journey through aviation acronyms that'll make you question everything.Ben admits he's "a little nervous" before diving into MOCAs vs ROCAs. Brian, suffering through IFR ground school, says his brain "goes cross-eyed" with acronyms like "M-A-A-M-C-A-M-D-A-M-E-A." Ted drops wisdom about aviation's three knowledge levels: "pass the test, throw away that knowledge."The conversation careens from NDB approaches to Shepherd Air debates, with Wendell Geek explaining the gap between training IFR and actual IFR: "you spend most of your time trying to avoid that."Brian perfectly captures the episode: "This is gonna be the worst episode that we've ever done, because we have nobody that knows what they're talking about." He later calls it "a false glide slope" metaphorically.Join the gang for aviation education that's equal parts informative and terrifying, where approach plates are more confusing than figuring out who actually knows what they're talking about.Ben's wisdom: "It's not real IFR until the sweat soaks your checklist.""This has not been sponsored by the FAA."Mentioned on the show:Erica/Aerosafe IFR course: https://www.gilbertaviation.com/ifrMOCA, OROCA: https://www.flight-insight.com/post/mea-moca-oroca-ifr-altitudes-explainedForeflight expected routes: https://support.foreflight.com/hc/en-us/articles/360054089634-What-are-Expected-Routes-in-ForeFlightSheppard Air- test prep software: https://www.sheppardair.com/Garmin G5: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/570665/Garmin GI275: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/719027/CCO - Newnan-Coweta County Airport: https://www.coweta.ga.us/departments-services/departments-a-e/airportMidlife Pilot Podcast: https://midlifepilotpodcast.com/YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/@MidlifePilotPodcastPatreon Community: https://www.patreon.com/MidlifePilotPodcastDiscord Community (join via website)Freedom Aviation Network: https://freedomaviationnetwork.org

HHS secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins announce a Trump administration plan to prevent the use of SNAP benefits (food stamps) for 'sugary drinks' like Coca-Cola - including here in Colorado.SNAPDan argues this is an infringement on the dignity of low-income Americans, who should be free to obtain whatever grocery items they choose. Ryan spotlights the libertarian argument of a slippery slope in terms of government intervention on where one draws the line between 'healthy' and 'unhealthy' foods - and how are those defined?

Sagittal-plane slope-reducing high tibial osteotomy (HTO) can reduce the risk of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in knees with a high posterior tibial slope. The biomechanical effect of slope-reducing HTO on tibiofemoral kinematics and force carried by the ACL remains less well understood. In conclusion, slope-reducing HTO decreased ACL force linearly by reducing ATT with compression and also by decreasing coupled ITR with combined compression and valgus. Any changes to KiwiSaver that could allow budding farmers to buy a herd of cows or flock of sheep would be a slippery slope according to one retirement fund provider. People who have been in KiwiSaver for three years can withdraw almost all the money to buy a first home, but they have to live in it. But Federated Farmers is applying pressure on the government to deliver on National's pre-election promise to unlock KiwiSaver so it can be used to buy stock, and first homes that wont be owner occupied. Agriculture Minister, Todd McCLay told Checkpoint he hopes to deliver on the promise. But not everyone thinks its a good idea. Founder of Koura KiwiSaver, Rupert Carlyon spoke to Lisa Owen.
WildEdge Brewing Collective opened on April 11th, 2017 in downtown Cortez after a 7 month renovation of a vacant warehouse. Our concept is that great beer builds great community. Our central location in Cortez, one block north of Main Street in the Central Business District, provides a great space to pursue this goal.Between our ever changing tap list of house made beers, our rotating hard cider tap featuring Colorado produced ciders, and a variety of local wines, everyone can find something to enjoy in our open and welcoming tap room. Hungry? Take a look at our menu of locally sourced foods that are the perfect snack or meal to compliment your beer.--Billy Goat Hop Farm is the largest hop farm in the Southwest, providing superior quality fresh, whole cone, and pelletized hops directly to craft brewers. Starting in 2017, they've grown to 32 acres that produce 9 varieties of craft hops. In 2022, they began sourcing different varieties of whole cone hops from other quality growers, and then processing themselves in order to offer more varieties to their brewers. Owners and farmers Chris and Audrey pride themselves on creating genuine farmer-brewer relations and bringing true craft into their process. Combining traditional hands-on practices and state-of-the-art technology, they use less water and chemicals which transcends into a healthier ecosystem, soil, and hop plants. Brewers enjoy the bright aroma and subtly unique aroma profile imparted from Colorado's terroir, and the passion poured into every step of the process. They also are opening their doors to the public this summer 2025. This is a unique opportunity to learn about hop farming and processing, sleep next to hop bines with views of the San Juan Mountains, and drink beer made with hops grown right there! They'll have 'Fridays on the Farm' throughout the summer that include beer from supporting breweries, local food, and yard games. Their annual harvest celebration - the Southwest Fresh Fest - with all fresh hop beers, live music, local food, a farm tour, and yard games is held in September every year too!

A climber airlifted with altitude sickness from near the peak of Japan's Mount Fuji returned to the slope and was rescued for a second time just four days later, authorities said. Officials urged people to be aware of the harsh conditions at the country's tallest peak during its off-season. The climber was identified only as a 27-year-old Chinese student living in Japan. He made an emergency call on April 22 and was airlifted after developing symptoms of altitude sickness, police said, adding that his climbing irons were also damaged. On April 26, he returned to the mountain's Fujinomiya trail about 3,000 meters (nearly 10,000 feet) above sea level to look for his cell phone and other belongings left behind, Shizuoka prefectural police said. Another climber found him there, unable to move after he apparently developed altitude sickness for a second time, police said. The mountain's hiking trails are officially open only from July to early September, but there is no penalty for hiking off-season. There is also no charge or penalty when a climber needs to be rescued, but the Chinese student's case prompted an uproar on social media and generated calls for him to be charged, at least for his second rescue. The Shizuoka police urged all climbers to use caution, noting that the mountain has low temperatures and is covered in snow even in spring. The 3,776-meter-high (12,388-foot-high) mountain was designated a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 2013. A symbol of Japan, the mountain called "Fujisan" used to be a place of pilgrimage and is increasingly popular among hikers today. To control overcrowding and risks from rushed overnight climbing through rocky slopes to see the sunrise, local authorities last year introduced an entry fee and a cap on the number of entrants on the most popular trail and will introduce similar rules on other main trails this year. Support Our Cause at https://libri-vox.org/donateBarchester Towers, published in 1857, is the 2nd novel in Anthony Trollope's series known as the "Chronicles of Barsetshire". It follows on from The Warden, set some years later, with some of the same characters. Among other things it satirises the then raging antipathy in the Church of England between High Church and Evangelical adherents. Trollope began writing this book in 1855. He wrote constantly, and made himself a writing-desk so he could continue writing while travelling by train. "Pray know that when a man begins writing a book he never gives over," he wrote in a letter during this period. "The evil with which he is beset is as inveterate as drinking – as exciting as gambling." And, years later in his autobiography, he observed "In the writing of Barchester Towers I took great delight. The bishop and Mrs. Proudie were very real to me, as were also the troubles of the archdeacon and the loves of Mr. Slope." But when he submitted his finished work, his publisher, William Longman, initially turned it down, finding much of it to be full of "vulgarity and exaggeration". More recent critics offer a more sanguine opinion. "Barchester Towers is many readers' favourite Trollope", wrote The Guardian, which included it in its list of "1000 novels everyone must read". Barchester Towers concerns the leading clergy of the cathedral city of Barchester. The much loved bishop having died, all expectations are that his son, Archdeacon Grantly, will succeed him. Instead, owing to the passage of the power of patronage to a new Prime Minister, a newcomer, the far more Evangelical Bishop Proudie, gains the see. His wife, Mrs Proudie, exercises an undue influence over the new bishop, making herself as well as the bishop unpopular with most of the clergy of the diocese. Her interference to veto the reappointment of the universally popular Mr Septimus Harding (protagonist of Trollope's earlier novel, The Warden) as warden of Hiram's Hospital is not well received, even though she gives the position to a needy clergyman, Mr Quiverful, with 14 children to support. This week's guest - Tim Knight – a self proclaimed permabear Tim Knight. NEW! DOWNLOAD THIS EPISODE'S AI GENERATED SHOW NOTES (Guest Segment) Tim Knight has been charting and trading since 1987. His first stock trade was, in fact, on October 19, 1987 – the day of the crash – which perhaps goes a long way explaining his disposition toward bearishness. He has been involved in personal computers since late 1979 and, starting at age 16, began writing a couple dozen books about using and programming computers. His most recent writing has been focused on charting and the history of financial markets, including his newest books, Panic, Prosperity, and Progress, and, more recently, Silicon Valley Babble On and Solid State, his first novel. He has been running Slope since March 29 2005 and has, during that time, written more than 30,000 posts on the site. In 1992 Knight founded Prophet, a web-based technical analysis company that was acquired by Investools (and, later, Ameritrade) in January 2005. Tim served as Senior Vice President of Technology for Investools from 2005 through 2010. Both Barron's & Forbes consistently named Prophet the #1 website for technical analysis. Then, the man did something straight out of Vegas. Downtown Denver could be getting a gondola system to help clean up the area. What states are the friendliest and the not so friendly? Chili's is opening a ‘Office' (tv show) themed version of their restaurant in Scranton. Russell Wilson signs with the Giants… They also signed Jaimies Winston. Who should start? Shedeur Sanders is off the Giants' board… hopefully. So Titans, Jets, Steelers, or Raiders will draft him.

A person I've known for quite some time, I had the pleasure of having Slope join me from The Netherlands to talk about two of his current favorite things in fandom. Time Travel in Fandom, and Minecraft. We kick things off by talking about Time Travel in Fandom. Where did Slope first find this? In The Legend of Zelda! We talk about a variety of fandoms within the time travel scope. From Back to the Future, the Bill and Ted movies, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (for multiverses). However, we spend a good deal of time on the German TV series, Dark (available to stream on Netflix). This show comes highly recommended, and we dance around any potential spoilers. We also do circle back to talk more Zelda! Then, we switch gears and travel into the world of blocks. Minecraft. Slope talks about how he first started playing Minecraft, and the evolution of the game since it got its start. He talks about running the Hyrule Gaming Group SMP server. What is the HGG SMP server? You'll find out all about it, what he and his team create for those who play - and most importantly - how YOU can join! We wrap up talking about Slippy Studios, and what you can find with Slope doing Flash animations and what he's working on. You can find Slope at: https://slippystudios.com/ (coming soon!) https://slippystudios.newgrounds.com/ You can join the Hyrule Gaming Group Minecraft Server by following these instructions: Connect to IP: mc.hyrulegaminggroup.com - Port: 25565 (Java & Bedrock) Currently running version 1.21.1. type /discord in-game to verify - Discord: https://discord.gg/bNXbZ4XfBD
