As the weather in the Northern Hemisphere starts to shift to spring and construction season gears up, we revisist an episode from 2021 about the costly ongoing problem of fires in buildings under construction. In the United States, there's a fire in a building under construction or renovation every hour and a half, according to NFPA data. Keith Bodnarchuk, President and CEO, and Andy Carmichael, VP of Exploration of Cosa Resources Corp (TSX-V: COSA) (OTCQB: COSAF), both join me to review the news released on March 20, 2025 reporting that the inaugural drill program has confirmed that the Murphy Lake North Uranium Project contains up to 2 kilometres strike length of the extension of geology underpinning the Hurricane deposit. Murphy Lake North is a joint venture between Cosa and Denison Mines Corp. (TSX: DML) (NYSE American: DNN) and is located in the eastern Athabasca Basin, Saskatchewan. Cosa is the project operator and holds a 70% interest with Denison holding a 30% interest.   Highlights   Located and defined the Hurricane trend extension within Murphy Lake North, the primary objective of the inaugural drilling campaign   Final drill hole intersected a significant zone of sandstone-hosted alteration and structure, overshooting optimal target by 25 metres; zone is open along strike in both directions and up to two kilometres of untested Hurricane trend strike length is interpreted within Murphy Lake North   Andy walks us through the extension of the Hurricane Trend, where the historic exploration holes were drilled, and where the 4 drill holes from this maiden drill program were located. Not only did they find the right faulting and geological structure, but they also found the alteration zone in the sandstone that tells them they are vectoring in on the right areas. A mini series on Transhumanism Transhumanism divides into moderate Transhumanism which believes in an enhanced human condition, and radical Transhumanism which envisages a profound alteration of our bodies and minds, even to the extent of abandoning our biological inheritance and becoming a designed new species. Both visions envisage accelerating technological change. But humans are not in charge of their technologies, rather technology itself is in the driving seat. While the record so far of a highly improved human condition looks good, for example increased life span, as well as impressive increases in GDP and the standard of living, on closer inspection the contemporary situation looks fraught with difficulty and the world economy could well be at an inflection point. Thus, the moderate Transhumanism project would be stalled, even endangered. However, as further episodes will argue this does not apply to radical Transhumanism which  is set to proceed regardless of economic conditions.

A. Nature and Types of Wills Definition of a Will: A Will is a legal document that expresses a person's wishes regarding the distribution of their property and other matters after their death. Types of Wills: Testamentary Will: This is the most common type of Will, executed in writing, signed, and witnessed according to legal requirements. Holographic Will: A Will handwritten by the testator and signed without witnesses. Nuncupative Will: An oral Will made in front of witnesses under specific circumstances. Privileged Wills: Wills made by soldiers or mariners in active service or persons in imminent danger of death. B. Legal Requirements for a Valid Will Testator's Capacity: The person making the Will (testator) must be of sound mind, have the capacity to understand the nature and consequences of their actions, and be free from undue influence. Age Requirement: The testator must be at least 18 years old (or a certain age specified by the governing law) to make a valid Will. Written Form and Execution: A Will must be in writing, signed by the testator or by another person at the testator's direction in their presence, and witnessed by a certain number of competent witnesses. C. Revocation, Alteration, and Revival of Wills Revocation of Wills: A Will can be revoked by a subsequent Will, by burning, tearing, canceling, or destroying the original Will with the intent to revoke, or by operation of law (e.g., marriage or birth of a child). Alteration of Wills: A Will can be altered or amended by making changes or additions to the original Will, which must be executed with the same formalities as the original Will. Revival of Wills: A revoked Will can be revived by re-executing it with the same formalities as the original Will. D. Grounds for Will Contests Lack of Testamentary Capacity: If there is evidence that the testator lacked the mental capacity to make a Will at the time of its execution. Undue Influence: If there is evidence that the testator was pressured or coerced into making the Will against their wishes. Fraud or Forgery: If the Will was obtained through fraud or forgery. Pretermitted Heirs: If the Will fails to provide for certain close relatives who would be entitled to a share of the estate under the laws of intestacy. E. Interpretation and Construction of Wills Role of the Court:The court interprets and construes the language of a Will to determine the testator's intent. On this episode of the Real Life Pharmacology podcast, I take a dive into the most common mechanisms of drug interactions. Below I list some of the common drug interactions seen in practice and how they work! Opposing Effects Many drugs will work on various receptors throughout the body. To use as an educational point, there is no better example to point to than the beta receptor. Beta-blockers are frequently used in clinical practice for their ability to lower blood pressure and slow the heart rate. Both of these beneficial actions are primarily achieved by blocking the effects of beta-1 receptors. Some beta-blockers have action on alternative beta receptors. Propranolol is one such beta-blocker that is classified as a non-selective beta-blockers. This means that in addition to the positive effects on beta-1 receptors, it can also have blocking effects on beta-2 receptors. The blockade of the beta-2 receptor by propranolol can also be life-changing. It can directly oppose beta-2 agonists like albuterol from having their beneficial effects of opening up the airway. Enzyme Inhibition Medication metabolism is arguably the largest and most clinically significant source for drug interactions. Medications that are primarily metabolized by enzymes in the liver can be greatly affected if we affect how those enzymes work. CYP3A4 is one of the most well studied and well-known enzymes that can impact hundreds to maybe even thousands of drugs. Apixaban is an oral anticoagulant that is broken down at least in part by CYP3A4. By using a CYP3A4 inhibitor like erythromycin, there is the potential to raise concentrations of apixaban. This could lead to a higher risk of bleeding. Enzyme Induction Carbamazepine is a drug that you must know. This drug is a potent enzyme inducer. This differs significantly from an enzyme inhibitor and will have the exact opposite clinical effect. Drugs that are inactivated by liver enzymes will be inactivated more quickly in a patient taking an enzyme inducer. Going back to our prior apixaban example above, carbamazepine can induce CYP3A4 and facilitate a more efficient and swifter breakdown of the drug. Bleeding will be less likely. The risk for treatment failure, usually in the form of a blot clot, will be more likely.  Here's more information from the past on carbamazepine. Alteration in Absorption Binding interactions can be consequential and are one of the most common types of drug interactions. Many medications have the potential to bind one another in the gut. This can lead to lower concentrations of a specific medication. Calcium and iron are two of the most common examples of medications that can bind other drugs. Alteration in Protein Binding By remembering that unbound drug is an active drug, you should appreciate the risk for protein binding alterations. A significant number of medications can bind proteins in the bloodstream. As this occurs, that drug is not freely available to create physiologic effects. When another medication is added that can also bind these proteins, this can displace other medications and increase the quantity of free drug in the bloodstream. This essentially allows for enhanced physiologic effects. Warfarin is a medication that is highly protein-bound. When another drug is added that can kick warfarin off of those protein binding sites, it can free up warfarin which will increase the likelihood of elevating the patient's INR and increase their bleed risk. Alteration in Renal Elimination Some drugs can alter the way other medications are eliminated through the kidney. Chlorthalidone, like all thiazide diuretics, has the potential to block the excretion of lithium from the kidney. This can lead to lithium toxicity. This type of interaction, while significant, is much less common than drug interactions involve the liver and CYP enzyme pathways.   Effects on Transporters One of the last types of drug interactions is the effe...

In Platformization and Informality: Pathways of Change, Alteration, and Transformation (Palgrave MacMillan, 2023), scholars from Mumbai, Bengaluru, Jakarta, Cape Town, Sao Paulo and other cities of the global South explore the complex relationship between platformization and informality through a different lens. Drawing on extensive theoretical, quantitative and qualitative scholarship, they provide both a useful overview and insights into the lived realities of gig work for platforms covering a range of skills, working conditions, and forms of algorithmic management. Platform work has attracted considerable attention from scholars in the global North, who have tended to view it as a form of casualisation of work that was previously regulated. But what about the global South, where most employment, especially that of women and migrant workers was historically already informal? Beyond a focus on livelihoods, employment, and work, the authors show how labour platforms take on powers that bring about broader impacts, including those affecting identity and personal wellbeing. They also illustrate the impact of platformization on the governance of affected sectors by public agencies, thus affecting political power, and how public data infrastructures contribute to further platformization. The purpose of this pioneering work is to lay bare these interactions to then rebuild our understanding of platformization and its social, political, cultural and economic impacts. Was there a time, or were there times, in human history in which non-human intelligences altered human DNA associated with the function of the pineal gland?
