Welcome back! thank you for tuning in as we dive into one of ted and brians favourites the Planet smashers! Part of the 3rd wave ska movement of the mid-late 90s the planet smashers were leaps and bounds above all the canadian ska, and while they toured with bands like Big D and the Kids Table, Mustard Plug and countless others they never had matching success as some of their contemporaries south of the boarder. However they were a mainstay and beloved here. Please like, share, subsciribe! leave us a nice review wherever you get youur podcasts and follow us on Instagram@canadafm!
We're back! Colds, roadtrips and tech issues can't stop us! We are continuing our trek down ska road with The Ska/Reggae/Dub... the list goes on! the talented trio found success with the smash single when the night feels my song and contued that for a few more albums before taking a break. Not before coming back with two great albums Mass(2019) and We will meet in a hurricane (2022). As we do we venture down various tangents and topics but stay with us as we had fun with this. Please like and subscribe @canadafm, Share! For the love of god spread the word. Hailing from Newmarked and being part of the Toronto music scene. The Salads made a huge splash with their album fold a to b which contained the hit "get loose". Ted and Brian had a fun time reminiscing the early 2000s gem. We hope you enjoyed the episode! If there's any errors or corrections shoot us a message, as we always do our best we are human! Hope Y'all had a great holidays! we're back! well, this one was recorded back in the summer so we had some outdoor beers and cigars and talked about canada's answer to a boy band; VIP (Voices in Public). Starting as a group in high school they weren't manufactured like the bigger boy bands out of Florida. This episode is chalked full of tnagents, high school memories and yeah we ripped on these VIP fellas but we gave praise when it warranted it! Please Follow us on instagram at canadafm, head to I tunes leave us a positive review!

Happy thanksgiving north of the boarder! It was supposed to be a winning weekend but after the 10-9 loss and one massive collapse by the blue jays the boys wanted to vent and swap sports stories and the nature of fandom. Sorry no music here but we'll be back asap rocky with a musical ep. Also technically this may be janky and unmixed as its fresh recorded sunday but we had fun! As we slide into Labour Day weekend people think summer is over but we have at least a month left so let's enjoy it! Ted and Brian each pick 3 songs that they feel would add to the vibe of a summer playlist. For anyone who isnt a fan of our rambling turn it off with 30 minutes left. We get into signs, fantasy sports, king of queens our old man health and the list goes on! Please Like, adda review on apple podcasts, share with friends!
This is actually the second we recorded but Brian got lazy and edited things out of order. Sky was formed by James Renald and Antone Sicotte in Montreal. Bonding over 70s funk and various other genresthey quickly signed a deal and released Piece of Paradise with such hits as Love song and some kind of wonderful. For various reasons James Renald left and two other encarnations of sky formed but nothing compared to that first one. Please share with your pals and head to Apple and leave us a 5 star review!
Only Ted and Brian could extend an episode where only one of 2 albums is available and stretch it into two hours. Today we talk about the all girl pop punk/ alt rock group from Vancouver. Liveonrelease formed and were taken under the wing of Bif Naked. The boys go on a few tangents from football, tattoos youth sports and female athletics. Please leave us a 5 star review, share and follow us on instagram @canadafm.
We're back! Brian took the away on summer vacation sign off his computer and did some editing! We're happy to release this episode. The Vancouver hip hop group had success with their song Northern touch that sparked a Junos controversy but that recognized hip hop as one of the mainstream genres. If you don't like our pre amble, skip ahead to around 20-25 minutes. Brian rants about terrible service and some issues he has with the Arkells. Please rate, review and subscribe! leave us a great review on I Tunes and share with friends!.
Welcome again and thank you for tuning into another episode of canada fm! we had fun with this ep as one of canadas hardest rocking ladies is the focus for the next 2 hours and change. We went a little long and tangent happy but it was a fun one. We hilight her early beginnings to her health later in her career. *Editors note, no music from her final album the promis was available but its available on youtube and should get checked out. As always leave a 5 star review on apple please! share it if you dig it and follow us on IG @canadafm
We don't know why they're called shortstack sessions because no one can spin a yarn like Teddy and Brian. But this week we cover one of Canada's pop punk bands Not by choice. Formed in Ajax, friends of the popular band Sum 41 yet they never took off. In this episode we dig into the 2 albums and have some fun. So get your wrist band, spiked belt, whatever skateboard merch you bought at West 49 and lets go in the wayback machine to the early 2000s! Please share with your friends, and subscribe to IG @canadafm
We pick up where we left off, talking about the fantastic fellas from Newfoundland Great Big Sea. We cover from Something Beautiful, The Hard and the Easy, Fortunes Favor and safe upon the Shore. We start with a little banter about Dr Strange so if youre not a fan of the preamble g'ahead and skip to about 11 mins. Please share and subscribe to canadafm on IG for some great content!
Happy Long Weekend! Nothing says start of summer like the may 24, cottages, BBQ's parties and Nothing says a party like Great Big Sea! Their blend of east coast traditionals and pop sensibilities made them one of the most popular Canadian acts from the 90s through to the end of their run. Their lovable personalities and high energy live shows made them fan favorites... But why didn't they break more Outside of Canada? Well dive down the rabbit hole starting in part one we go from their self titled album to the sea of no cares. The boys tried something new they recored outside so if you hear birds or dogs dont adjust your headphones. Also as you know the boys love their preamble so if you wanna jump into great big sea skip to 18-20 minutes. Please follow the instagram @canadafm, please share, tell a friend!
*Disclaimer this most recent one is a re upload had to fix a wrong song. if youve already enjoyed it it wont be different otherwise its brand new! After the a lengthy hiatus and some tech issues the boys return to zoom to officially close the books on season two and get ready for season 3. What better way to send off a great season than with a great playlist of jams that represent their favorite tunes by the stellar artists of season two! Please share, rate and review! Enjoy!
Sorry For the delay, holidays etc. We appreciate you! Here we wrap up part two on the seminol rap group from Vancouver. We cover 2006's black magic to their most recent album brand new day. We get into some tangent topics like what do we think of the juggalos? and the state of SNL. Swollen Members are a group Consisting of Shane "Madchild" Bunting, Kiley "Prevail" Hendriks, DJ Rob the Viking and sometimes Daniel Denton AKA Moka Only. Formed in Vancouver, B.C. Have released nine albums. Their brand of Hip Hop cant be pinned down. A mix of alt hip hop with conscious lyrics, fun party music, aggressive beats and the occasional hype track . They were on top of Canada's hip hop scene Before the emergence of acts like Drake and the Weeknd. With Juno nominations, chart topping tracks, sell out tours and a sound that was accessible yet still differing them from contemporaries why didn't they reach the states? We don't answer that yet we focus on albums 1-4. Balance- Heavy.. Enjoy! Please head to apple music and leave us a 5 star review, and share the podcast with your friends!
Formed in Windsor No Canadian band displayed consistency and musicianship like this band. Their blend of dark rock, blended with dystopian lyrics, touches of 60s rock and industrial made them fans across the country and.... Australia! But in the 90s with industrial, goth rock and melancholy bands on the rise why couldn't they ride that wave in America? The boys bend their brains trying to figure it out! hope you enjoy! The 90's and early 2000's saw a slew of punk and pop bunk bands have their hay day. Gob was one of our definite stand outs. With their blend of thrashy skate punk, early on, then transitioning and maturing with each album their sound evolved and they never released the same album twice. Appearing in video games and movies they definitely got some exposure. Why did they not emerge out of this pop punk boom? Join us as we dive in and give our best guess. Hayden Neale was a phenomenal talent. Unfortunately gone but never forgotten. He assembled Jacksoul , a band of supremely talented musicians who fused as you guessed it soul, funk, pop and R n B in a 90s era where R n B sounded nothing like this. They stood out alone and while they won awards in Canada, they never got the recognition they desired. Join us on this salute to the late great Hayden Neale! Follow us on instagram @canadafm and Twitter @canadafm1. Please like and subscribe and head over to apple and leave us a review...Preferrably 5 stars as we are 5 star men!

We pay tribute to one of the GOATS in the comedy world, the late great Norm Macdonald who happens to be a proud Canadian. Starting as a writer on shows like Rosanne, moving onto Saturday night Live where he helmed the weekend update desk. Quoted by Chevy Chase as the best anchor since him. Norm had a ruthless, uncompromising wit, a fearless approach, and was respected by his peers and the up and coming generations of comedians. Podcasts a plenty will be shining light on Norm so hopefully you love ours, share and subscribe to our Instagram: Canadafm
One of Canada's Seminole rock bands with origins from Waverly, Nova Scotia. They were on the for front of the rock scene in Canada in the 70's and have sustained. While they have had charting success in America it seems to be often an after thought outside of Canada. You ask Americans whos a Canadian rock band from the 70's they'll go to Rush. We're diving through the first eight albums self titled to harder faster and we're going try to show you why they need to be part of the conversation!
Out of the Ottawa club scene came one of the most trailblazing and unique bands of the 2010's. Blending Dubstep, electronic and their own indigenous drums and chants to form a signature genre known as "Pow Wow Step". They have branched into television and films but they never forget their roots and the Indigenous artists that came before, often trying to collaborate and feature unknown or should be known Indigenous artists. They fight tirelessly to bring awareness to causes through their music in a way to feel like its not blaming or bitter, rather to start a dialogue and further come to an understanding. We had a ball and hope you enjoy!
The four piece from Vancouver has been creating pop classics for nearly two decades, experimenting with theme albums, arrangements and instruments they have reached the top of the canadian music mountain. However America has eluded them... for now. They have been climbing in their success with each passing album. Today we go through their five albums and Josh's producing and writing career.

Our first female artist! in the rise of female talent Amanda stood head and shoulders above them all, her powerful voice, personal and socially conscious songs were a breath of fresh air following the heavy guitar driven grunge scene. The boys dive deep into her career and what could have happened why she never cracked the states in spite of some modest success in Europe

Sloan has been a staple of the Canadian music scene for 30 years, often taking the road less traveled. They left a label for several years taking the independent route. They have a unique sound composed of power pop, shoegaze, and heavy hooks. They were unique in that they share singing and instruments. Here in part one the boys start with the peppermint EP to 2001's pretty together. They also do a tribute to their dads as a belated fathers day tribute. The Toronto Band started as a jazz/ pop group, before gravitating into an adult contemporary. In between PK the members branched off. The animated pop group Prozzak and front man Gerald Eaton took on the alter ego Jarvis Church. While Never making a splash as a band they all found success behind the scenes.
During the rise of pop, boy bands were all the rage. In Canada we had an answer to the brother act Hanson, the Moffats. a set of fraternal triplets Clint, Bob and Dave and older brother Scott. They took Canada by storm but never quite cracked the U.S. market. They did have success in the overseas market. They have quite the tale and if you make it through this long haul episode in one shot bless your heart.
