Snappy holidays, y'all! The snarky Santas of “How We Heard It” have been making a list of what the biggest names in modern music should get for their behavior this year. We're not talking about golf clubs and spa days. Instead, these are intangible gifts the artists need, even if they don't realize it. Your hosts bounce from sarcasm to sincerity as they distribute their tidings on naughty and nice performers from across genres and age groups, including young pop stars like Benson Boone and Olivia Rodrigo, country artists such as Morgan Wallen and Jason Aldean, and old rockers like Mick Jagger and Jimmy Page. Find out what your hosts would give Beyonce, The Weeknd, Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna, Bad Bunny, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Nickelback and more. Yes, Nickelback. They haven't been THAT bad, have they?

Interview Date: July 14th, 2025Episode Summary:Eden Shabtai shares how a kid from a tiny Israeli kibbutz—obsessed with MTV and training in ballet and modern—willed her way into New York's scene and eventually L.A.'s major stages. She opens up about the unglamorous decade of artist development, underpaid gigs, and nonstop outreach that built the foundation for her “overnight” break assisting on Chris Brown's Loyal, leading to major award shows and TV. A six-month backpacking trip through India reshaped her idea of success, while the O-1 visa process taught ruthless persistence. Eden also speaks candidly about receiving an aggressive breast-cancer diagnosis while five months pregnant, undergoing chemo with cold-cap treatments, and protecting her peace by avoiding toxic workrooms.Creatively, Eden explains why she builds choreography live in the studio—feeding off dancers and music—and why energy, individuality, and attitude matter more than stacked résumés. Listeners will gain insight into using social media strategically, differences between NYC training and L.A. work volume, how to stand out in auditions (presence, styling, quick adjustments), and the mindset that sustains a career: humility, resilience, and community.Shownotes:(0:00) – Welcome and guest introduction(8:20) – Early roots: ballet, modern, MTV influence(13:53) – India trip reframes success and happiness(15:24) – Visa grind: persistence, evidence, good lawyer(18:53) – Moving to L.A.: training vs. booking realities(21:08) – Breakthrough: assisting on “Loyal”(26:44) – Favorite projects: BET 2014, Fleur East(29:31) – Cancer while pregnant: resilience and boundaries(42:05) – Creative process: energy-first choreography(51:19) – What makes dancers stand outBiography:Originally from a kibbutz in northern Israel, Eden began training in ballet and modern at age 7. With no formal hip-hop classes available at the time, she learned by watching MTV. Determined to pursue dance professionally, she left home at 16 to study at a specialized dance school. After serving in the IDF, she spent six transformative months traveling India before moving to New York City to chase her dream. In NYC, Eden trained at Broadway Dance Center and quickly became a sought-after teacher for over 150 young students while choreographing for up-and-coming artists. Realizing her long-term goals required a move west, she relocated to Los Angeles in 2010.Since then, Eden has worked across NBC, ABC, BET, FOX, CBS, VH1, CW, and MTV. Her credits include the VMAs, Grammys, Billboard Awards, Dancing with the Stars, iHeart Radio Awards, BET Awards, Soul Train Awards, X Factor, The Ellen Show, James Corden, American Idol, Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, and more. She has choreographed campaigns for Hasbro, Office Max, Office Depot, HEB, and Clark's.Eden has worked with artists including Chris Brown, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, Pitbull, Ava Max, Jason Derulo, Enrique Iglesias, Jamie Foxx, Ne-Yo, Lil Wayne, Marc Anthony, Flo-Rida, Brandy, Omarion, Miguel, Pia Mia, Little Mix, Sevyn Streeter, No Doubt, Snoop Dogg, Kehlani, Janelle Monáe, Fleur East, Priyanka Chopra, Machine Gun Kelly, Tinashe, WizKid, Serayah, DJ Snake, Hardwell, YungBlud, Jack & Jack, and many more.In 2017 Eden served as a Judge/Mentor on a new Israeli dance competition series, where she became the winning mentor. Today she works as a choreographer, artistic director, artist developer, and consultant—living by her belief that with hard work, mental strength, and determination, anything is possible.Connect:Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/theedengarden/Website – https://edenshabtai.com/

With some conservative U.S. voices expressing criticism over the selection, Shakira defended Bad Bunny's inclusion as long overdue and pointed to the increasing mainstream acceptance of Spanish-language music—a movement she herself helped pioneer during her historic 2020 Super Bowl performance.Music milestones have also become a focal point this week: in partnership with Spotify, Shakira is celebrating the anniversaries of her landmark albums “Pies Descalzos” and “Oral Fixation” with a new live EP and a video special. This exclusive content spotlights Shakira's influence across generations and includes special guests like Ed Sheeran and Beéle, adding new dimensions to her classic hits as described by Spotify's official newsroom. No confirmed new business dealings or acquisitions have surfaced in the past few days, and there are no reports of updated catalog transactions since the Hipgnosis purchase of her publishing rights. However, anniversary content and world tour performances are driving a sharp uptick in streaming and social conversation. No major controversies or unverified rumors have gained traction. Headlines like “Shakira Celebrates Her Return to Colombian Stage on Her Arrival in Cali” and “Shakira Shuts Down the Tonight Show” cap off a whirlwind week for the superstar, who appears at the height of both her creative powers and her cultural impact.Get the best deals https://amzn.to/3ODvOtaThis content was created in partnership and with the help of Artificial Intelligence AI

On this week's Talkhouse Podcast we've got two old friends who've worked together on such culture-crushing songs as “Dick in a Box”—one of whom is known more for the music, and the other for the funny. It's Andy Samberg and Asa Taccone. Samberg you surely know for his years on Saturday Night Live and Brooklyn Nine-Nine and tons of big movies. Before all that he was part of the trio The Lonely Island, which blew up on SNL with “Dick in a Box,” among other hilarious jams. The Lonely Island also features Jorma Taccone, and when Samberg and Taccone needed some musical help for their SNL shorts, they would often call Jorma's brother Asa, who helped them shape “Dick in a Box,” “Motherlover” and plenty of other songs. But Asa's less inclined toward the funny stuff that his childhood friends are known for; he's been making his own decidedly less silly music since 2011 in collaboration with Matthew “Cornbread” Compton under the name Electric Guest. The duo just released their first album since 2019, and it's called 10K—you'll hear the meaning behind the name in this chat. As you'll hear, there's no jokey rap to be found, just a compelling mix of soulful pop: You might not be surprised to learn that in recent years Taccone has also collaborated with the likes of The Weeknd and Carly Rae Jepsen. Check out “Play Your Guitar” from 10K right here. As you'll hear, Samberg and Taccone are pretty comfortable with each other, because their friendship goes way back. They talk about Samberg's decision to take a swing at the big time, Lonely Island deep cuts, and the alternate name that Electric Guest briefly considered. Enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Andy Samberg and Asa Taccone for chatting. Welcome back to When Words Fail Music Speaks, the podcast where we battle the darkness of depression with the undeniable power of music. I'm your host, James Cox, a self‑declared “professional handicapped” champion of mental‑health advocacy, and today we've got a truly inspiring guest who lives the mission we preach.Joining us is Craig Jamieson—the creative force behind the Canadian pop‑rock outfit Craig Jamison & the Lucky Winmore Band. Craig blends 80's synth nostalgia, modern hooks, punk‑edge chords, and indie‑rock flair into a sound that's as eclectic as his influences— from Bon Jovi and Michael Jackson to The Weeknd's synth‑wave vibes. In this episode we'll:Dive into Craig's latest releases—the bright, hook‑laden single “Honey,” the heartfelt follow‑up “Get to You,” and the mantra‑driven anthem “Come Around,” which serves as the theme for his Dance Away Depression charity event.Explore his personal journey with anxiety, panic attacks, and depression, and how songwriting became his lifeline—turning depersonalization and chemical‑imbalance battles into lyrical mantras that help listeners “weather the storm.”Highlight his partnership with radio‑promo guru Caden Gordon and Big Records, the upcoming “Perfect Timing” track, a forthcoming Christmas EP, and a mysterious, world‑concern‑driven song titled “Doomsday.”Spotlight his mental‑health work with the Canadian nonprofit Mind Your Mind and the Dance Away Depression fundraiser, showing how music can raise both awareness and resources for youth battling depression.Uncover his creative process, from the 80's posters that still line his teenage bedroom walls to the way he lets each song's vibe dictate genre—pop‑punk, synth‑wave, folk, even swing‑jazz.Whether you're a fan of nostalgic synths, a songwriter looking for a mental‑health ally, or simply someone who believes “when words fail, music speaks,” this conversation is a reminder that a single chord can connect, move, and heal.Stay tuned—because after this interview you'll hear snippets of Craig's tracks, learn how you can support his charitable events, and get the exact URLs to stream “Honey,” “Get to You,” and “Come Around.”Let's turn the volume up and let the music do the talking.
Some musicians do better with chaos. Others under deadlines and with teams. Tristan Clopet is a rare pro who's done both, and because of it knows the value of working towards a greater goal with a big team (and bigger pressure).Tristan's prolific work on film and TV scores gives him a deep insight into the nature of that side of the industry (and how different it is from his touring days supporting X Ambassadors, Billy Bragg, Tove Lo, Glen Hansard, and The Weeknd). It's a collaborative, deadline-oriented, large effort, with hundreds of creatives contributing to the final work. He shares how inspiring that journey is, and how knowing the boundaries can unlock even more creativity. I loved his story about scoring to Martin Freeman's solo acting in a car. (Martin Freeman happens to be one of my favorite actors.)His credits include:Sony Pictures Television's StartUp, created by Ben Ketai and starring Martin Freeman, Ron Perlman, Adam Brody, Mira Sorvino, and Edi Gathegi. In 2020, Netflix licensed all three seasons and it quickly became the streamer's #1 acquired series around the world. The Universal Studios feature film River Wild, for which he earned an HMMA nomination. The Infiltrator, starring Bryan Cranston, City of Lies, starring Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker, Sundance Film Festival winner Crown Heights, starring LaKeith Stanfield, AMC's Pantheon, with Brandon Roberts, Marco Beltrami, and Buck Sanders, and CBS's military procedural The Code. For 30% off your first year of DistroKid to share your music with the world click DistroKid.com/vip/lovemusicmoreSubscribe to this pod's blog on Substack to receive deeper dives on the regular

The NFL has just announced that rapper “Bad Bunny” will headline the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show, and on this episode of “Fearless,” Jason Whitlock unpacks why this choice of performer is a slap in the face to President Donald Trump and MAGA supporters. Bad Bunny has made anti-ICE comments, said he wouldn't perform in the U.S., and declares himself to be sexually “fluid.” Whitlock explains why selecting Bad Bunny to perform is a calculated move to Troll Trump and MAGA and is part of a trend that's been ongoing since 2019, as the likes of the Weeknd, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg have headlined the halftime show in recent years. Whitlock also breaks down why these artists are favored by Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris, Nancy Pelosi, and other Northern Californian elites who worship globalism. Ultra-impactful show today! Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye plays himself in his movie Hurry Up Tomorrow. The movie serves as a companion piece to his latest album. We caught this vanity project in theaters. In the movie, The Weeknd is a pop superstar in crisis who has lost his voice. His manager (played by Barry Keoghan) is trying to boost his ego. Jenna Ortega plays a deranged fan hell bent on tracking The Weeknd down. Trey Edward Shults directs. This movie was reviled by audiences and critics alike. We'll let you know what we witnessed!
