Episode 179 – Porcupine Tree Part 10, Deadwing The Palaver returns with an exhaustive exploration of Porcupine Tree's eighth studio album, Deadwing (2005). The group dissects this often-overlooked masterpiece, often unfairly shadowed between In Absentia and Fear of the Blank Planet. The episode opens with fascinating context: Stephen Wilson's recent remix projects on Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Tears for Fears' catalog, revealing his meticulous technical process. But the focus shifts to Deadwing—a concept album rooted in an unreleased horror screenplay, featuring contributions from Adrian Belew (King Crimson) and Mikael Åkerfeldt. The hosts analyze standout tracks including the rhythmically complex *"Start of Something Beautiful"* (featuring Gavin Harrison's intricate syncopation) and *"Open Car," which may be the album's standout moment. Drop-D tuning chords, keyboard textures as dynamic shifters, and Deadwing's bridge between In Absentia's rawness and Wilson's later solo ambitions. Listen now on your preferred platform. After nearly a year away from the mic, I'm returning to On the Cusp of Something Beautiful with a new rhythm, a new perspective, and a deeper understanding of what it truly means to trust the soul path. In this episode, we explore the medicine of reinvention, the discomfort of uncertainty, and the sacred process of allowing your life to evolve beyond old versions of yourself. This conversation is an invitation to stop forcing yourself back into expired versions of your life and instead lean into the path your soul is asking you to create now. If you've been navigating transition, identity shifts, burnout, or the feeling that life is rearranging itself beneath your feet—this episode is for you. Key Takeaways Why “being off track” may actually be part of your soul's redirection How reinvention often begins through collapse, uncertainty, and release The connection between intuition, visualization, and aligned expansion Why authentic growth requires creating new paths instead of returning to old ones How giving yourself grace can unlock creativity, momentum, and emotional freedom Follow On Instagram + View My Offerings: Follow on IG @onthecuspwellness! "At the hour of death we are going to be judged on what we have been to the poor, to the hungry, naked, the homeless."Mother Teresa lived this truth with radical simplicity and unwavering love. From the streets of Calcutta, she dedicated her life to serving the poorest of the poor, restoring dignity to those the world had forgotten. Today, her legacy continues through the Missionaries of Charity, whose work reaches the most vulnerable across the globe. In this episode, we explore the life and witness of Mother Teresa, reflecting on the foundations of her sanctity: deep prayer, devotion to the Eucharist, joy and cheerfulness, the embrace of suffering, and a life poured out in self-giving love. This podcast relies 100% on the generosity of listeners. Welcome to season 4, episode 6 of A Friend for the Long Haul - A Long Covid Podcast! One of my very favorite people is back on the pod: Amaranthia Sepia, co-founder of Sista Creatives Rising, commissioned seed packet artist for Sista Seeds, and now digital media manager for the disability and design podcast Down to the Struts. Amaranthia is a 26-year-old Black, disabled, neurodivergent artist and organizer based in New Hampshire, and in this conversation we get to really dig into her story, not only as a creative behind Sista Creatives Rising, but as an artist whose work is rooted in her family's gardening history, her love of Black women and the land, and her own hard-won journey toward self-preservation and community. We talk about her stunning seed packet illustrations for Sistah Seeds, founded by Amirah Mitchell. From the website: "In 2021, Amirah founded Sistah Seeds to connect black and brown growers to our culturally-important seeds. Sistah Seeds is one of a small but growing number of black-owned seed businesses in the U.S., changing the landscape of the seed industry. Together, we are part of a multi-ethnic, multi-national movement of farmers and seed-keepers, working to preserve our heritage and create a strong agricultural future for our communities."We also talk about hydroponics, healing, and how growing food for her mom during a health crisis sparked something lasting. We talk about Amaranthia's new role at Down to the Struts, how an unexpected $3,000 Social Security notice lit a fire under her to pursue additional work, and why remote, disability-justice-rooted employment is the difference between thriving and burning out.We also discuss what it's meant to find a vibrant disabled community online after years of navigating bullying, racism, misogynoir, and ableism...including the assumption that being homebound automatically means your life is sad and small. (Spoiler: it absolutely does not.)We also talk about Lilette, the tiny blue masking frog who has become the mascot of Sista Creatives Rising and might just end up in a children's book. No promises. Matt and Macy Collins lost their four-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Hattie Jo, in 2020 when an EF4 tornado hit their home in Cookeville, Tennessee. Now, six years later, Matt joins Kerry to discuss how her legacy is honored by giving back to communities around the country through the Magnolia Foundation. Send a textWhat If the Hardest Parts of Life Are Actually the Beginning of Something Beautiful? Life isn't only the beautiful bloom — sometimes it's the mud beneath it. In this conversation, we explore resilience, mindfulness, and how struggle can shape personal growth. Some conversations stay with you long after they happen. In this episode, I sit down with someone who knows my story deeply—my sister. Together we reflect on the reality that life is never only the beautiful bloom or only the struggle beneath it. It's both. She gives us a bit of insight in to France's Plum Village. We talk about how challenges shape us, how perspective changes everything, and how sometimes what feels like the hardest moment may quietly be preparing something meaningful. If you've ever wondered how to move through uncertainty, loss, or change without losing hope, this conversation may resonate with you. Stay with us as we explore the powerful idea that sometimes the very mud we wish away may be the place where something beautiful begins to grow.Citations1. No Mud, No Lotus – Thích Nhất Hạnh, 2015. “Send Coach John a message”Came across the gem that I plan on actually using later today when I go out to run some errands. It comes from TeacherGoals (@teachergoals) The intro they shared is: “Love this!” - “When you see something beautiful in someone, tell them. It may take a second to say, but for them it could last a lifetime.” This is so spot on. I've been trying to say things to people when I come across something that I see about them. Good service. A smile. An act of kindness that I witness them doing. A compliment to share with them. Etc., it's all something that the world needs more of. I need to hold myself accountable to do this when I go out later today. Thanks for listening. Today's poem is A toast to something beautiful flapping in the wind by J. Hope Stein. The Slowdown is your daily poetry ritual. In this episode, Maggie writes… “Once upon a time, I was a new mother with a baby girl in my arms, and I was her whole world. It was seventeen years ago, but sometimes I swear I can transport myself back there just by closing my eyes and taking a deep breath. I remember reading that a baby's first three months of life are called the fourth trimester. Three trimesters are spent in the mother's body, bobbing around like a little fish, but the ‘fourth trimester' is when everyone is adapting to life in the outside world. The babies seem bewildered, trying to adjust to nursing and sleeping, but I think parents are just as bewildered.” Celebrate the power of poems with a gift to The Slowdown today. It's time for our final episode of the year, and our final Life in the Fast Lane! Don't worry: "I can see something beautiful, cinematic." After covering a Tokyo Drift minute that features a deep dive into the career of Brian Tee (and a new nickname for DK?), we head over to Instagram to Run the VIN, where we notice a series of photos where he's looking at a different camera than the one that took the photo he posted. We then ask: what's going on with Cristiano Ronaldo? Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots? The next Fast film? Ark 2? (We have very few answers.) Does Tyrese care whether or not he's posting AI photos? (Probably not!) We talk about new TV, the latest in sports (outdated when you hear this, naturally!), and Radiohead in Copenhagen. Part II of my year-end review of pop music across 2025 tackles Selena Gomez & Benny Blanco's 'I Said I Love You First,' Miley Cyrus with 'Something Beautiful,' and Demi Lovato's 'It's Not That Deep.' All three acts shared similar experiences in the earlier halves of their music careers, and this episode discusses the parallels shared between these artists in 2025. For Selena Gomez, I'll be diving into the couples branding behind her work with Benny Blanco, and how both the singles and campaign may be a mismatch for the album's core. On 'It's Not That Deep,' I'll be going through the recent album and how the singles may have prevented the album from reaching its full potential, and how Demi's dance effort is her most ambitious to date. Plus, how does Miley's new album stack up next to 'Can't Be Tamed,' 'She Is Coming,' 'Endless Summer Vacation,' or 'Plastic Hearts?' Let me know your thoughts as well.
Our ministry did not preach a word during Sunday's service. Instead, it brimmed with testimonies—heartfelt experiences—of how God has changed people's lives through Brother Singh's preaching and teaching of the word of God over the years.
Have you hoped a parent, spouse, or loved one would open their heart to mind-body healing? Or wondered what might happen if someone close to you began shifting their emotions the way you have? If so, this episode will touch you deeply. When her daughter was diagnosed with cancer — and then courageously began working on healing herself emotionally and energetically — something shifted for Heather. As she watched her daughter step into her strength, this loving mom felt inspired to support her in the most meaningful way she could. So for the first time, Heather opened her own mind to mind-body healing. What unfolds in this live session is both heartfelt and profound. As Heather begins shifting out of fear and guilt and into trust, belief, and emotional strength, her physical pain responds immediately — dropping from a level 5 to about a 1 in real time. This episode beautifully shows how healing can ripple through a family… and how one person's willingness to change can inspire the people they love. In this episode, you'll discover: How fear for a loved one's health can quietly impact your own body Why parents and caregivers often carry hidden guilt — and how to release it The difference between suppressing emotions and truly transforming them How believing in a loved one's healing can support their journey Simple mind-body tools to shift emotional patterns and reduce pain If you've ever wished your family could understand healing on a deeper level — or hoped a loved one would join you on the mind-body journey — this episode is a beautiful place to begin. Real friendships are rarely instant. Sometimes we assume that if it doesn't “click” right away, it's not meant to be—but sisterhood is often built slowly, through shared stories, laughs, and even a few awkward silences. This week, we'll talk about letting go of the pressure for immediate depth and instead embracing the sacred rhythm of friendship that takes root over time. Miley's a legacy act in flux. Addison's a newcomer who might actually get it. In this episode, we break down two very different pop albums from two very different artists: Miley Cyrus's "Something Beautiful" and Addison Rae's debut "Addison." We dig into the critical response, the commercial fallout, the production choices, and the cultural weight (or lack thereof) of both records. Is Miley trying too hard to be taken seriously? Is Addison… kind of a genius? For bonus episodes, video content, and unfiltered takes, head to patreon.com/swiftologist. This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit wisdomofcrowds.liveWhy do artists try so hard to shock the public? Why is Kanye West singing about Hitler? Why are New York artists dabbling with fascism? The novelist and cultural critic Țara Isabella Burton joins Damir Marusic and Santiago Ramos to discuss these questions and more. Last week, Tara published an essay on Wisdom of Crowds titled “The Point of Pissing People Off.” In it, she tries to figure out whether there is something positive at work in transgression and provocation — something good that comes out of shocking art.All three of our conversationalists agree: Kanye is not really being transgressive. But is there a good version of transgression? Tara suggests that we should think about transgression as a genre, with a certain form and structure, that can either succeed or fail. Damir is skeptical of analyzing transgression, and prefers to think of it as a moment of ecstasy. Santiago wonders if transgression is important for self-knowledge, and something valuable for society as a whole. In the course of the conversation, many transgressive works and artists are discussed, among them: Piss Christ; Madonna; Georges Bataille; the Marquis de Sade; and more.In our bonus section for paid subscribers, Damir talks about the difference between analyzing transgressive art and consuming transgressive art, and why he prefers the latter; Damir discusses the difference between the punk rock of his day, where Reagan was the enemy, and the transgressive art today, which hails Trump as a leader; Tara, Santiago, and Damir trade thoughts about the French Revolution; Santiago tries to get Damir to explain what he means when he talks about “the stuff”; they discuss the question of whether love is as powerful as transgression; Damir talks about his favorite part of the Gospels; and Tara talks about kitsch.Required Reading and Listening:* Tara, “The Point of Pissing People Off” (Wisdom of Crowds).* Tara, Strange Rites: New Religions for a Godless World (Amazon).* Tara, Self-Made: Creating Our Identities from Da Vinci to the Kardashians (Amazon).* Damir's discography from his punk rock days (Discogs).* Damir's music with his band, The Miss (Bandcamp).* Kanye West, “Heil Symphony” (Spotify).* “Kanye West's ‘Heil Hitler' Song & Controversy Explained” (Yahoo! The Legendary Ladies are back with something beautiful - a new episode discussing Miley Cyrus' new album! Amy, Kat, and Morgan dig into some of the lore and history of Miley Cyrus, share their thoughts on "interludes", and pick their top 3 songs on the album. They also get into an interesting conversation about the difference between streaming or shuffling an album, and listening to it to completion on a disc. They ask the question - does streaming change the fundamental art behind the compilation of an album? Does listening the album while watching the lyrics play on Amazon Music harken back to the days of reading lyrics on a CD book? And can visual albums add to the story of an album - and does that change the interpretation behind an album? All this and more on this week's The Legendary Ladies Podcast!

Miley Cyrus just released three singles from her ninth studio album, Something Beautiful. Inspired by Pink Floyd's The Wall—specifically the 1982 feature film based on the album—Cyrus is not just sharing new music but a whole visual album, each song accompanied by a music video shot by director Panos Cosmatos. We last heard from Cyrus in 2023 with her massive smash "Flowers," which found the industry veteran finding some kind of inner peace. With her new songs, Cyrus is turning from healing herself to healing the world. She described the project as "a concept album that's an attempt to medicate somewhat of a sick culture through music." What does such an endeavor sound like? For one, a lot of surprising textures and collaborators: Shoegaze guitarists, jazz saxophonists, indie rock producers. At least, sounds that are surprising to those who only know Cyrus from "Flowers," "Wrecking Ball," and "Party in the USA." The true Miley stans expect the unexpected from an artist who, it turns out, has always been weird. Songs Discussed Miley Cyrus - Flowers, Prelude, Something Beautiful, End of the World, Dooo It!, Malibu, Cattitude (feat. RuPaul), Plastic Hearts Blank Banshee - Eco Zones Caroline Polachek, Oneohtrix Point Never - Long Road Home D'Angelo - Send It On Alice Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders - Journey In Satchidananda Whitney - Forever Turned Around ABBA - Mamma Mia, Dancing Queen Alvvays - Easy On Your Own?
