How do you celebrate a 40-year music career? If you're Blue Rodeo, you tour Canada in 40 dates, and the last two are in Massey Hall. We're showcasing Blue Rodeo with separate one-on-one interviews with co-founders and co-writers/singers Greg Keelor and Jim Cuddy. , Blue Rodeo and the guys have multiple Junos, Hall of Fame inductions, Songwriters Hall of Fame, Canadian Walk of Fame Orders of Canada, a really good documentary and just this year, a stamp and a beer. To me, I hear the sound of Canada in their high harmonies. They started out as a hot bar band after returning from a disappointing series of months in New York. New York said "You can't have two lead singers and you can't do country, rock and roots. You must have a clear image of who the audience sees you as". Back in Canada. None of that existed. We loved them just as they were. The boys knew where they belonged, and it showed up in the joy of their music. Enjoy this conversation between three music fans who lived those 40 years. And are still friends

To many Canadians, he is a beloved figure from childhood. The host of Fred Penner's Place, he has won multiple Junos, has the Order of Canada and has sold over one million albums. Canada is very cross right now! Anyhow, loads of new releases today, many of them courtesy of fellow DJ Daniel Rosenberg, who was in town for last week's Junos. Thanks, Dan! I managed to play at least one song from each of the ten Canadian provinces and two Canadian Territories. While Lindisfarne's tirade against the Tory government in the UK in the early 1970s was somewhat tongue-in-cheek I added this with an impassioned plea to my American friends to "bring down the government". For all our sakes!
Forecast = Cloudy with a chance of cyber meatballs. We're not fooling around in this episode of Storm⚡️Watch! The show kicks off with some positive news about the Journal Times returning to full operations following a cyberattack. This is followed by important information for VMware users regarding Broadcom's significant licensing changes effective April 10, including an increase in minimum core requirements from 16 to 72 cores per command line and a new 20% penalty for late subscription renewals that will be applied retroactively. The crew then reviews results from their recent poll asking listeners which feature of encrypted messaging apps concerns them most, with options including data storage, unencrypted backups, metadata, and accidental adds. In our first segment, we discuss security concerns with the Unitree Go1 consumer-grade robot dog, specifically focusing on the recently disclosed Zhexi Oray Tunnel backdoor that has raised alarm in the security community. Next up, the team explores FamousSparrow and their SparrowDoor malware, examining the techniques and implications of this threat actor's operations. In light of recent event, the hosts provide comprehensive guidance on secure messaging practices, drawing from recent Washington Post and Wired articles. They emphasize that secure communication depends not just on the app but also on how you use it. Key recommendations include choosing contacts wisely, securing your devices by using personal rather than work equipment, setting messages to automatically delete, and selecting the right messaging apps with Signal being the top recommendation for its verifiable end-to-end encryption. They also warn about potential vulnerabilities in cross-platform messaging and advise caution with apps like Telegram. We quickly review Europol's 2025 report on the evolving landscape of organized crime, which now heavily intersects with cybercrime. Traditional criminal networks have transformed into technology-driven enterprises using AI, blockchain, and cryptocurrency to enhance their operations. The internet has become the primary theater for organized crime with data as the new currency of power. The report identifies seven key threat areas and calls for improved global financial security measures, noting that criminal asset confiscation remains stagnant at around 2%. Finally, we conclude with updates from our benevolent overlords, including Censys' reports on JunOS vulnerabilities and Kubernetes issues, VulnCheck's partnership with Filigran, runZero's approach to exposure management, and GreyNoise's observations on DrayTek router activity and Palo Alto Networks scanner activity that may indicate upcoming threats. Forecast = Router-geddon: Ballista storms brewing with a chance of unforgivable vulnerabilities. Patch umbrella required. In this episode of Storm ⚡ ️Watch, the crew laments the sorry state of modern edge computing through the lens of Steve Coley's 2007 paper on "Unforgivable Vulnerabilities". The discussion examines security flaws that should never appear in properly developed software yet continue to plague systems today. These vulnerabilities demonstrate a systematic disregard for secure development practices and would be immediately obvious to anyone with basic security awareness. The team breaks down "The Lucky 13" vulnerabilities, including buffer overflows, cross-site scripting, SQL injection, and hard-coded credentials, while also exploring how modern AI tools might inadvertently introduce these same issues into today's codebase, and how one might go about properly and safely use them in coding and security engineering. The episode also features an in-depth analysis of the newly discovered Ballista botnet that's actively targeting TP-Link Archer routers through a vulnerability discovered two years ago. First detected on January 10, 2025, this botnet has already infected over 6,000 devices worldwide, with the most recent activity observed in mid-February. The threat actors behind Ballista, believed to be based in Italy, have targeted organizations across multiple sectors including manufacturing, healthcare, services, and technology in the US, Australia, China, and Mexico. The botnet exploits CVE-2023-1389 to spread malware that establishes encrypted command and control channels, enabling attackers to launch DDoS attacks and further compromise vulnerable systems. The team rounds out the episode with updates from their partner organizations. Censys shares insights on JunOS vulnerabilities and the RedPenguin threat actor, along with an investigation into server misidentification issues. RunZero discusses the importance of cybersecurity labeling for end-of-life and end-of-support consumer IoT devices. GreyNoise alerts listeners to a new surge in SSRF exploitation attempts reminiscent of the 2019 Capital One breach and promotes their upcoming webinar on March 24th. As always, the Storm⚡️Watch crew delivers actionable intelligence and expert analysis to help security professionals stay ahead of emerging threats in the ever-evolving cybersecurity landscape. River, Diverted is a dark fairy tale that explores the trickery of memory, the delicacy of friendship, the nature of creativity and the deliverance of hope. Filled with pop culture references and a deep love of monster movies, River, Diverted is both a light-hearted and subtly serious read that will captivate readers. Steven sings some amazing songs and talks about The BareNakedLadies, Trans-Canada Highwaymen, the creative process, blowing up your life, breaking up with your partners, repairing your life, finding freedom working for yourself, being a self starter, zoom shows, Brian Wilson, Yoko Ono, band camp, and getting pelted with mac & cheese. Bio: Over the last thirty-five years, Steven Page has established himself as one of the most recognizable and enduring voices in music. The release of his latest album, Excelsior, shows that he has no plans of slowing down anytime soon. Since its release, Steven has toured Canada, The US and the UK with The Steven Page Trio, and has performances planned well into 2024. As a co-founder, vocalist and songwriter for Barenaked Ladies, Steven sang and wrote classics like “Brian Wilson,” “If I Had A Million Dollars,” “What A Good Boy,” “It's All Been Done” and many more. With the band, he sold over 15 Million albums and scored multiple Junos, Billboard Music Awards, SOCAN awards, Gemini Awards and two Grammy nominations. After leaving the band in 2009, Steven embarked on a solo career that has produced five solo albums, including 2022's Excelsior, and has seen him tour worldwide, from folk festivals to cabarets and theatres, all the way to packed arenas on his recent string of dates opening for rock legends The Who. Steven performs in many configurations, from solo to full band with horn section, but, since 2016, he has been playing most often with his pals in The Steven Page Trio, Craig Northey of Vancouver legends Odds on guitar, and Kevin Fox on cello. The trio configuration provides the right amount of portability, intimacy and power to fill just about any venue imaginable. Steven has performed arrangements of some of his best-loved songs from his long career with orchestras including the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Victoria Symphony, Symphony New Brunswick and has more symphony shows on the horizon in the next two years. A passionate mental health advocate, Steven has been in demand as a public speaker since 2011, sharing his own story with audiences across North America. In 2018, Steven was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame with his former bandmates in Barenaked Ladies, at the Juno Awards Ceremonies in Vancouver. In 2020, when work on the musical he wrote with playwright Daniel MacIvor for Canada's Stratford Festival, Here's What It Takes, was interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, Steven began performing weekly livestream concerts over Zoom, Steven Page Live From Home. These Live From Home shows, sometimes selling 1000 tickets at a time, cultivated a tightly-knit community of music fans from all over the world, and kept them feeling connected when it was most needed. Steven continues to perform Live From Home shows on Saturdays when he's not on the road, with the 100th episode planned for early in 2023. The Governor-General's Performing Arts Awards approached Steven in 2021 about writing a song as a surprise tribute to his friend, Ryan Reynolds, and the result was “Canada Loves You Back,” a song as poignant, humourous and Canadian as the actor it honours. Steven is a frequent collaborator with Toronto's Art of Time Ensemble, made up of some of Canada's best classical, jazz and pop musicians. With them, he released an album of covers, A Singer Must Die, in 2009, and also appears on their Sgt. Pepper and Songs of Leonard Cohen albums. Along with Chris Murphy (Sloan), Moe Berg (The Pursuit of Happiness), and Craig Northey (Odds), Steven makes up a quarter of The Trans-Canada Highwaymen, four lead singers of classic Canadian bands, whose first album of Canadian covers is set to be released in the fall of 2023.
