After drumming in a multitude of indie rock projects, Forgèt utilized her musicianship and song writing on vocals and synth to form Hot Lips in 2016 with Heppler and Black. We also talk about money-saving tips regarding textbooks as a student, lessons learned from failing in business, various jobs we've had over the years and what it's like to be a professional rapper. Angelo, aka 'Joe Boy Rock' and his cousin Andrew, who also goes by, 'Cortex' partnered up in 2016 to become the rap duo known as Machina II (MA-KI-NA 2) where this past summer they had the opportunity to open up for Swollen Members during their 2018 Family Reunion tour. Soup has DJed in many clubs around Australia including a long residency at Tonic and Blue hotel and the legendary Sounds of Seduction with Jay Katz from the Mu Meson Archives. Founding the Fonke Knomaads, Soup became producer, DJ and part time MC for the left field Sydney Hip-hop pioneers. They released a 5 track E.P. called "The Hills Are Alive With The Sound Of..." on the now defunct label PoBoy records .Soup moved on to sign with influential Australian record label Creative Vibes . He soon released the groundbreaking Trip-Hop Album "Souperloops". Soup coined the term sampology and his tracks began popping up on several international compilations as well as having an album of the week on JJJ. This was the first local hip hop release to be given such an honour. The album was influential to local bands such as The Resin Dogs and Fretless. Further releases include collaborations with Fat Pizza star Sleek the Elite, the mini album "Eclectro" and the feature length album "From Anuva Planet" featuring Swollen Members and Gift of Gab from Blacalicious . Soup's last release was "Beatroot-The Edible Root of the Beat" which is out on Invada records. A label run by members of Katalyst and Portishead. Our Way(s) of Life ft. Heebz the Earthchild This week on the show, we’re talking about Our Way(s) of Life with Travis Hebert, also known as Heebz the Earthchild, who is one half of Indigenous hip-hop group Mob Bounce. We wanted to talk about what culture means to Travis, so we caught up with him in July 2017 at UBC Studios on Unceded Musqueam Territory in Vancouver, BC. We wanted to explore the harmful impacts colonialism has and continues to have on Indigenous men, and to hear about what we can do with our cultures to call our brothers to pursue healthy ways of living. We talk about Mob Bounce’s use of culture and the role that music and art play in advancing healing for the people. We discuss our ability to heal by freeing ourselves from the traps and pitfalls of colonial thinking, and then Travis drops an *exclusive* freestyle in the studio for us, expanding on his own personal teachings and the lessons which have inspired him to create the music he and Craig Edes, also known as The Northwest Kid, continue to perform across Canada. Mob Bounce is a Hip Hop duo that formed in the later half of 2010 with the release of their, “Mixed Blood Mixtape.” Before the mixtape release, Travis Adrian Hebert and Craig Frank Edes had been writing & recording music since 2004. Craig is Gitxsan and Travis is Cree/Metis. The two Aboriginal artists have exceptional experience in playing guitar and drums, and have blended their musicianship with elements of Electronic Dance Music (E.D.M.), and Hip Hop production; they incorporate aspects of a Cultural identity with an Artistic identity by experimenting with free toning(Chanting), and a Cultural soundscape influenced by sounds of Nature. Since the release of “Mix Blood Mixtape”, Mob Bounce has focused heavily on creating social and environmental awareness through the arts. They have done their share of anti-pipeline events and a series of shows at Vancouver Indigenous Media Arts Festival that is organized through W2 Media Arts Society in Vancouver, British Columbia. Mob Bounce spent the summer of 2014 performing at various Music Festivals and events including Aboriginal Music Week in Winnipeg, MB. Combined, they have shared the stage with; A Tribe Called Red, DJ Itchy Ron of Sweatshop Union, Git Hayetsk: “People of the Copper Shield”, We Are The City, The Born Ruffians, Filastine, Cris Derkson, Swollen Members, Leonard Sumner, Tall Paul, and other established artists. We speak with country music innovator Corb Lund about his new collection, Things That Can't Be Undone. As we've come to expect of this off-kilter troubadour, the album is an ambitious, diverse collection of songs chalk full of sonic surprises. A longtime flagbearer for Canadian hip-hop, Prevail is one of the founding members of Swollen Members and also has some solo material to his name. His latest project is a collaboration with Neph called Alpha Omega. We speak with the MC about the new initiative and how it differs from the rest of his output.

Oscar is a renowned Canadian radio promoter who has worked with the likes of Sarah McLachlan, Tiesto, Swollen Members, Classified, and Marcy’s Playground to Jets Over Head, Madeleine Peyroux, Robbie Robertson and Jordan Knight. He focuses on commercial radio in Canada and knows exactly what it takes to break on radio. Radio is not only part of the “rockstar dream” but it is a crucial aspect to a “rockstar career.” When I first met Oscar a few years back, I remember him telling me that he recommended artists do some of the groundwork themselves before hiring a radio tracker. But how do you get started? Where do you begin? I asked Oscar some straight up questions to help understand not only the process but how exactly you can get your music on the radio. What format do stations want your music in and how do you deliver it to them? Who do you call at the station? What do you say on the phone? How do you find out if your track gets added to rotation? How do the charts work and how can you chart? Should you focus on certain stations? Is it better to start locally or go nationally? What are the best ways to build relationships at radio? Who makes the decisions? Is there a better day of the week to phone? Why do some songs get picked and others don’t…? These are a few of the many questions Oscar tackled.
