BELIEVE Who can you believe? What can you believe? How can you believe? There was a farmer who owned a field of sheep. He tended to that flock every day. A fence separated the farmer's field from another field of an evil man who always tried to steal the sheep out of that farmer's field. This feud went on for years and years. The town was torn on which side to take, the farmer's or the evil man? In that town was a young man who loved to go to the field and sit on the fence, believing he was not trespassing since it separated the farmer's field filled with sheep and the evil man. The farmer never said a word to the young man about sitting on the fence when he saw him. But he invited the young man to come into his field and permitted him to come to his home and enjoy a meal with other invited guests. The young man was afraid to take sides and have the evil man remove him from the fence that he enjoyed when looking at the field. The evil man came up to him one day and told him to get off the fence. The young man said no, that the fence was neutral territory, and that he was not taking sides. The evil man looked at the young man and said, "Well, you need to pick a side and either go to the field or come onto his property." PROTECTION AND POWER Supernatural protection lies over these two witnesses until their time is fulfilled. If in fact these two witnesses are Moses and Elijah, this protection is much like what they both experienced when they walked this earth. The MEANING of the TWO Discovering the meaning of the two witnesses requires us to go back to the book of Zechariah. MARTYRS' PROMISES God promises three incredible things to the multitude of saints that are dressed in white and standing in front of His Throne. Remember, the multitude represents those martyred for their testimony about God. MISSION MINDED The Tribulation Saints 3 What is the statement that comes out of their mouths? What kind of praise is offered in this scene? Many discussions (or, shall I say, disagreements) surround the identity of these saints. The phrase, “who come out of the great tribulation,” clearly separates these believers from any other group of saved people throughout history. They are unique to the tribulation period. Yet salvation is the same in the tribulation as it is today-they are in heaven because their robes have been washed and made white in the blood of the Lamb. Without the shedding of blood (Hebrews 9:22), there is no forgiveness or remission of sins. We are saved by the blood of Jesus Christ, which paid for our sins. The message preached during the tribulation will be the same message we preach today. There is only one gospel-Jesus Christ and Him crucified (1 Corinthians 1:18; 2:1-5). Do those who fail to respond to the gospel now have a “second chance” to be saved during the tribulation? That is a good question. If it were up to us to decide, we would certainly hope this would be the case. Is it really that impossible to believe that someone can receive salvation in the tribulation? MISSION MINDED Jesus was mission-minded but still had time for others. But He also did not allow the accolades of those He came to serve deter him from His mission. 40 As the sun went down that evening, people throughout the village brought sick family members to Jesus. THE 144,000 Tribulation Believers? Although church-age believers (represented by the twenty-four elders) are in heaven during the tribulation period on earth, two groups of believers will be living on earth during this tragic time. One group comprises 144,000 people who God supernaturally protects from judgments and tragedies. The other group is an innumerable multitude who come from every nation and language and become believers during the tribulation. COSMIC DISTURBANCES When the sixth seal is opened by Jesus Christ, John sees some amazing events predicted by the prophets long ago. The worldwide catastrophe that will take place. Earthquakes have occurred often in the past and with increasing frequency in the latter half of the twentieth century and the early 21st century. They have caused enormous devastation, with thousands killed and multitudes left homeless. Earthquakes reveal our helplessness and produce great anxiety and fear. This particular earthquake is described as “a great earthquake.” It coincides with changes in the heavens and remarkable alterations on the earth's surfaces. When earthquakes, fires or tornadoes, or volcanoes do their thing, it wreaks havoc on the environment and the natural daily processes of the earth. What is the extent of the catastrophe in the sixth seal judgment? What is the potential explanation for this catastrophe? Among pre-millennialists, there are three significant viewpoints about the catastrophic events of the sixth seal judgment: 1. It refers to the earthquake that occurs at Christ's return at the end of the tribulation. 2. It refers to the earthquake that was predicted in Ezekiel 38:19. 3. It refers to a particular earthquake that will happen at the beginning of the tribulation. One thing is for sure; this earthquake will breed tremendous concern of the people of earth. The entire population is in a panic! World leaders and rulers have no answers but are filled with fear and the rest of the population. During His earthly ministry, Jesus likewise spoke of this coming day of judgment: “There will be signs in the sun, moon, and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken.” (Luke 21:25-26). There is no more significant issue to face than eternal life and escaping God's coming wrath. Our present generation has no desire to hear of these things or to believe them. We want to be stroked and reminded of our self-worth and potential for success. The real issue has not changed-heaven, hell, life, and death. Where will you spend eternity? “For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now – and never to be equaled again. God instituted government and the principle of law to deal with the injustices and crimes of society. THE RED HORSE - THE FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE A Rider on a Red Horse (Revelation 6:3-4) The symbolism of a “fiery red” horse was traditionally a portrait of war and bloodshed.
