FAMILY REDEEMER [Book of Ruth] (paraphrase) Ruth 1 …there was a famine in the land ... went to dwell in the country of Moab … while there the sons got married … then Naomi's husband and 2 sons died … Naomi might RETURN from the country of Moab, for the Lord had visited His people by giving them bread … She told her daughter in laws to go back to their families … Ruth said: “Entreat me not to leave you, or to turn back from following you … YOUR PEOPLE SHALL BE MY PEOPLE, And your God, my God. (NKJV) Ruth 2 There was a RELATIVE OF NAOMI'S HUSBAND, a man of great wealth, of the family of Elimelech. His name was Boaz. 2 So Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “Please let me go to the field, and glean heads of grain after him in whose sight I may find favor.” And she said to her, “Go, my daughter.” 3 Then she left, and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers. And she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech. … 11 And Boaz answered and said to her, “It has been fully reported to me, all that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, and how you have left your father and your mother and the land of your birth and have come to a people whom you did not know before. 12 The Lord repay your work, and a full reward be given you by the LORD GOD OF ISRAEL, UNDER WHOSE WINGS YOU HAVE COME FOR REFUGE.” … 20 Then Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “Blessed be he of the Lord, who has not forsaken His kindness to the living and the dead!” And Naomi said to her, “This man is a relation of ours, one of [REDEEMER] our close relatives.” Ruth 3 9 And he said, “Who are you?” So, she answered, “I am Ruth, your maidservant. Take your maidservant under your wing, for you are a [REDEEMER] close relative.” 10 Then he said, “Blessed are you of the Lord, my daughter! For you have shown more kindness at the end than at the beginning, in that you did not go after young men, whether poor or rich. 11 And now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you all that you request, for all the people of my town know that you are a virtuous woman. Ruth 4 9 And Boaz said to the elders and all the people, “You are witnesses this day that I HAVE BOUGHT ALL that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, from the hand of Naomi. 10 Moreover, Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of Mahlon, I have acquired as my wife, to perpetuate the name of the dead through his inheritance, that the name of the dead may not be cut off from among his brethren and from his position at the gate. You are witnesses this day.” … 13 So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife; and when he went in to her, the Lord gave her conception, and she bore a son. 14 Then the women said to Naomi, “Blessed be the Lord, who has not left you this day without a [REDEEMER] close relative; and may his name be famous in Israel! … 17 Also the neighbor women gave him a name, saying, “There is a son born to Naomi.” And they called his name Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David. 1. This line is the same line that Jesus was born into 2. Like Ruth and Naomi, we to have been separated due to a death 3. We need a family redeemer (close relative) • We're redeemed back into the family of God, not adopted (reconciliation) GO'EL: Next of kin, and, hence, redeemer. Any rights possessed by a man which lapsed through his inability to perform the duties attached to such rights, could be and should be resumed by the next of kin. This his go'el, or kinsman, had to redeem.

LOVE TRUMPS ALL‬‬ Mark‬ ‭12:28-34‬ One of the teachers of religious law was standing there listening to the debate. He realized that Jesus had answered well, so he asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” 29 Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. 30 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.' [Deuteronomy 6:4-5] 31 The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.' [Leviticus 19:18] No other commandment is greater than these.” 32 The teacher of religious law replied, “Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth by saying that there is only one God and no other. 33 And I know it is important to love him with all my heart and all my understanding and all my strength, and to love my neighbor as myself. This is more important than to offer all of the burnt offerings and sacrifices required in the law.” 34 Realizing how much the man understood, Jesus said to him, “You are not far from the Kingdom of God.” And after that, no one dared to ask him any more questions.‬ 1. Leviticus 19:18 “Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against a fellow Israelite but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord. 2. Mark 4:39-41 When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. 40 Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” 41 The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!” 1. Don't Be Afraid Mark 4:35-41 [Jesus Calms the Storm] As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let's cross to the other side of the lake.” 36 So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed). 37But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. 38 Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don't you care that we're going to drown?” 39 When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. 40 Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” 41 The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!” 2. Have Faith Mark 4:30-34 [Parable of the Mustard Seed] Jesus said, “How can I describe the Kingdom of God? What story should I use to illustrate it? 31 It is like a mustard seed planted in the ground. It is the smallest of all seeds, 32 but it becomes the largest of all garden plants; it grows long branches, and birds can make nests in its shade.” 33 Jesus used many similar stories and illustrations to teach the people as much as they could understand. 34In fact, in his public ministry he never taught without using parables; but afterward, when he was alone with his disciples, he explained everything to them. 3. Grow in Faith Matthew 17:19-20 Afterward the disciples asked Jesus privately, “Why couldn't we cast out that demon?” 20“You don't have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,' and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.”

They would all watch Moses until he disappeared inside. 9 As he went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and hover at its entrance while the Lord spoke with Moses. 10 When the people saw the cloud standing at the entrance of the tent, they would stand and bow down in front of their own tents. 11 Inside the Tent of Meeting, the Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. [5 Steps To:] JOY (John 3:27-30 & 2 Cor. 12:8-10) 1. I can take joy in trials because It Did Not Take My God By Surprise. - God is all knowing, so nothing catches Him off guard - Knowing we were going to face trials, He prepares ahead of us getting there 2. My God Has Provided All I Need to overcome the situation. - This is scriptural “He has provided” and that means it is done - Not just a way thru, but His very essence of who He is operates inside you John 3:30 He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less. (Greek: auxano) "to grow or increase," effect of the work of God; become greater. (Greek: elattoo) Decrease: "make less or inferior, in quality, position, authority, popularity or dignity;" 3. I can look at the situation and Thank God For The Things He Has Already Done. - If He has done it before He can do it again - When we focus on what He has done, we begin to focus on Him. - When we focus on Him, the troubles seem so very small. 4. When The Devil tells you about your short coming, it just Points You To God. - When the devil says you are poor, you say God is my provider and I am rich. - When the devil says you are sick, you say God is my healer and I am healed. - When the devil says you're worthless, you say God designed me with purpose. 2 Corinthians 12:10b For when I am weak, then I am strong. (Greek: astheneo) Diseased, weak, sick. (Greek: dunatos) Ability, Able: signifies "powerful." 5. Struggles Melt In The Sight Of God and I can rest in the greatness of God. - Like I said previously our troubles are nothing compared to God - The last verse can be reworded to say When I am (diseased, weak, or sick) then I am (able / powerful) because God in me

First Responders-when something happens what is our first response Headaches we turn to Advil…Flu we turn to Emergency Medicine…Unknown illnesses we turn to doctors…etc. Not that anything is wrong with going to the doctor, but where should we turn to first. Not even Facebook or websites to look up our symptoms and diagnose ourselves. God never leaves He is the first responder and we should look to Him before we consider anything else. Luke 10:30-37 [Parable of the Good Samaritan] Deuteronomy 31:8 (Moses told Joshu) …He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.” Hebrews 13:5 and 8 …For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. 1 Peter 5:7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. John 3:16-17 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. John 14:15-16 “If you love me, obey my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 2 Corinthians 4:8-10 We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. 9 We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. 10 Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.

Jason Norvell You Matter We were driving the other day and I saw a bumper sticker that read “You Matter”. With all the world is going through with “fill in the blank” matters. But I think more than all the political and social agendas, we need to get back to realizing that “You Matter”. That means individually without any so-called group to be a part of. Matthew 18:12-14 (Parable of the Lost Sheep) “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders away, what will he do? Won't he leave the ninety-nine others on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost? 13 And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he will rejoice over it more than over the ninety-nine that didn't wander away! 14 In the same way, it is not my heavenly Father's will that even one of these little ones should perish. 1. You are precious Luke 12:22-32 (Don't Worry) Then, turning to his disciples, Jesus said, “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food to eat or enough clothes to wear. 23 For life is more than food, and your body more than clothing. 24 Look at the ravens. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds! 25 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? 26 And if worry can't accomplish a little thing like that, what's the use of worrying over bigger things? 27 “Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don't work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 28 And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? 29 “And don't be concerned about what to eat and what to drink. Don't worry about such things. 30 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but your Father already knows your needs. 31 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need. 32 “So don't be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom. 2. You are valuable
